Ok maybe this is very silly, but this thing lists Apple Lossless, FLAC, and WAV files in the description...does it not play mp3's?

So is this thing just "bluetooth ready" or does it come with the bluetooth adaptor? The description implies they have included it.

Don't worry about having the bluetooth adapter, if it is airplay and dlna compatible use that technology over wifi, a much better quality and a greater range.

I bought a Pioneer App Radio for my truck and it is without a doubt the most poorly designed, unusable worthless piece of junk I have ever encountered in consumer electronics in my entire lifetime. After this experience, I will never, ever buy a Pioneer ANYTHING again.

According to the manufacturer's page:

Bluetooth Audio (with optional AS-BT200 adapter)

So, just ready, adapter not included.

I and two of my friends bought this item during it's last time around and none of us are pleased with it. Mine keeps changing the time and losing connection with my network. My friends sister had hers completely stop working and is now having to deal with Pioneer directly to get it repaired...let's say that they are not very responsive.

I would not recommend this product. I use mine but only because I wasted nearly $200 on it. If it had cost less then I would have donated it or something; but the engineer in me is too cheap to do that yet.

Is this useful as an alarm clock?

I have been looking for a "real" alarm clock (dual alarms, dimmable display) that looks nice and has good sound quality. Streaming audio or web-radio support would be nice, but just an aux input would do. Everybody is making plastic iPod-port junk. Any pointers?

*than

Is this the same mobile OS that doesn't stream at full bandwidth over Bluetooth?

Seriously, this product and Pioneer's other AirPlay-compatible products stream using "Apple Lossless". This means iTunes or your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch converts your MP3s, M4A/MP4s, WAVs, AIFFs, etc., to Apple Lossless before streaming it to the device. It's transparent to the user.

Apple Lossless is an open-source codec very similar to FLAC. My wife uses AirPlay to stream music from the SkyFM app on her iPhone or iPad to our Pioneer AirPlay-compatible receiver (also purchased on Woot!). She is a technophobe, but she figured it out herself and loves it.

Not sure how that's biased they're the 2 highest rated units on the market right now in that price range. Roku is a nice option as well but a bit more limited on your native playback options if you're running your media off a PC or NAS. Not sure how you think calling something a pile of crap is doing anything to further the conversation about DNLA capable units with an HDMI output which what the poster was discussing. Any of those three could be a nice alternative to the current woot if you've already got a speaker system in place.

You shouldn't need to use it if you have something that is DNLA compatible for the wi-fi streaming.

Try the iHome iD84, which I have (less than $100 at Sams or Costco) , or the new iH4. I use mine w/o an iDevice connected.
Decent sound, dual alarms, auto time reset, mult-level dimmable, 1/8 audio input jack (for my Droid) in addition to iDevice dock. Decent bang for the buck.

I agree with the request for more Android products. But it doesn't seem that Woot would be able to do anything about it. Manufacturers simply don't make devices for Android. I guess the fact that each one has a different form factor, and the charging port is in a different spot doesn't help.

If it's anything like their A/V receivers, it displays album artwork and track information on your TV.

My 3 year old laptop can do everything the Apple TV can and more, has HDMI out, and can be controlled by my Windows 7 phone. Apple just wants to sale you 30 or so devices that'll do the same damn thing. As it stands now I have devices in my house that can surf the web, play music, play videos, stream netflix, stream my digitized DVD/Blu-Ray collection, and anything else I throw at them (Xbox 360, Android tablet, 2 laptops, 2 windows 7 phones). Why would I want another device for more overlapping functionality?

Wait a second, I don't think we were getting what the author was doing. Re-read it in the voice of Don Draper from "Mad Men."

This is one of Don's classic save-the-day pitches in a meeting with the clients.

We just lacked the context.

It should have started with: "What do you think, Don?"

And ended with:
"That was...wow. That's just amazing, Don, but I don't see how we can get all of that across to our customers in a 30-second spot. I think I speak for all of us when I say we're impressed with the creativity and work you've poured into this, but we're going to have to go with Danny's idea, 'Pioneer: It's stylish and loud and it's got plugins for your thingamajiggies'."

Just what I need, a proprietary music player. I guess I'll run right out and buy a i-thing with wifi to use it.

Actually manufacturers are dropping the Apple only stuff to a universal Bluetooth connectivity system. Just about every smart phone has music, wifi, and bluetooth capability so making something i-compatible only is no longer practical.

10% THD is unlistenable. Even 1% is quite distorted, even to a casual listener.
