Well, the short version is that the Bravo Charlies are bundles of stuff that the Woot warehouses got that they don't feel are up to being sold as a main-site item. Random stuff from inventory closeouts, usually.

About one in three is just complete garbage nobody needs (my last Bravo Charlie had a Jonas Brothers cellphone holder, dollar-store-quality miniature photo tripod, and a compact flash reader).

Another one in three has something you can use, and say 'Ooh, nice'. A miniature tool set, or cellphone charger, for example. You get your money's worth with these.

Another third will have a few very nice items, like a auto power inverter, a small barbecue, or just something nifty. Go on, do a nice dance, you deserve it.

Then there's the small, tiny fraction that get something AWESOME. A new TV, several hundred identical action figures, an anvil... you get the idea. These are the things we're all hoping for when we buy, and why we beat our chests and wail in anguish when we miss the chance.

They USED to. This was a while back. And the most common overheating problem was the Graphics chip, not the CPU. This has been resolved years ago.

As for the laptop itself, it is not a bad laptop. Can you do full gaming on it? No. But who would expect to do that on ANY $450 laptop anyway? It all depends on what you are looking for. Want a laptop for basix stuff, this is not a bad deal. No, it doe snot have the latest and greatest but I find some of the negative comments about this thing pretty funny. Some compare it practically to an Alienware type laptop and yea, compared to that, this one sucks. But now compare it to a notebook and it will kick it's ass...

Besides, the blue-ray is a cool feature and with the HDMI you can hook it up to the tv.

Just my 0.02

Shorter version is the How Woot Works video. Bonus: it's funnier

I've had really good luck with my two HP laptops, other than battery life, but will have to be convinced AMD is as good as the newest Intel IvyBridge offering.

It's actually a pretty decent deal. I can't find another 500+ gig HDD, dual core, 6gig DDR3 laptop for less, even without the 17 screen or the blu ray right now, and Black Friday is a long way off. It's still available via the friends and family link. I was asked by a friend to check it out for an "off to college" grade laptop. I'm recommending they buy it, unless anyone can point to a better deal on a similarly speced deal (the one linked to on Newegg has a slightly slower gpu, slower cpu, is a refurb and no bluray. $5 cheaper only because of the free shipping at the egg).
