It's an old CRV t.v. and it's actually quite large, but the previous owner wanted a flat scree so we got this nice, big old t.v. that has great definition, but suddenly, thanks to this high pitched whine, I can't use. It just hurts my ears too much.

My wife can't hear the buzzing. I'm pretty sure what I'm hearing is the 'misquito buzz.'

Anyway, for those who are owners of flat screen t.v.s, do they have that high pitched buzz/whine? Or is this a problem unique to the old CRV models?

It's a flyback transformer. Not used on the the new flat screens. Or you have tinnitus.

Perfect for FPV! Has a 12v input and runs fine directly off a 3S LiPo. When connected to an RCA Composite video stream will show degraded video all the way down to pure static.

I know it is a very specific use, but hey :P See the thread here for more info:

With this tv you could probably pick up one of those audio channels and hear Sister Sledge singing 'We are family'.

Sounds like a rare faulty unit. I have had my two Vizios for over three years with no issues what so ever.

What you're hearing is the horizontal flyback. CRT electron guns scan horizontally at a really high rate (like in the MHzs range) and it creates that high pitched whine. They all do it, some are worse than others. WHen I would start getting a migraine, I could hear my CRT monitors and they would drive me nuts. CRT tvs are ALWAYS loud to me. I walked into my friends' house and said to them, "Your TV is on." Their TV was in the basement-- there was nothing on the screen, no sound, but i could hear that durn flyback. That's my FAVORITE thing about LCDs and Plasmas-- no more flyback!

ETA: I meant KHz! Looks like it's right around 15-16Khz... that is a high pitched horrible sound.

I would have to agree, and I'm thinking of replacing the CRT in my bedroom because of that high pitch whine. I can hear when it's turned on from across the house and it drives me nuts to listen to it.

We were blasted by lightning and it took my Vizio out, BUT they have some of the best "old-fashioned" repairmen that come when you call and are on time and fast, fixed my tv and I still call for any problems with attaching hardware. Great product and some of the best CS for electronics around.

Chillax. Eat some fruit. Take a dump. You'll feel better. I promise.

1. Not a woot-worthy price for refurb.

2. I've had two Vizios and both have had issues with software (the latest one was returned within a week it was so usable as a primary TV, while the older one is a far less used and exhibits bad behavior only sporadically... and long after the warranty expire, of course.) Caveat emptor.

I've definitely concluded that, maybe more than any other consumer product, there's few actual "values" in electronics.

Because of the failure rate or because people go poking around inside their TVs and short caps?

Because of the extremely high voltage they output, I believe.

Fry is pretty much what would happen to someone if they touched it while operating.

Got mine today - a little tape on the box would have been nice... thankfully all the parts were there and the tv hadn't fallen out - but the one piece of tape that went across the top of the box had been cut and the handle was tearing off. Will connect it when I get home from work to make sure it works.
