A couple of sites say ~2.5hr on a single charge of the included li-On battery. It also says that a 32GB SD card could provide 10hr of recording time (but it didn't mention record time vs resolution)

I fly hang gliders with a gopro and a woot monkey ..

The lcd screen and remote make this a good choice for half the cost.

I hope the 4 hr recording time is accurate, my gopro gets only 1.5 hours with out the larger battery pack.

Please post the video of this! I really hope it was recording when it happened.

I ordered one to use on my ski boat and r/c heli. That's the third thing in a row I got off woot for my boat for a killer deal.

rcbarnes wrote:You know, I think this entire discussion misses a critical feature of the camera---the awesomely powerful, built-in laser weapon. Look at those specs, it's a freakin' megawatt, which handily trounces the military specs claimed by Northrop Grumman by an order of magnitude. Granted, you'll run though that tiny battery pretty quickly as you slice through your adversary, but you don't need long with such firepower.

Of course, I can understand how everyone missed this terrific feature, since MW is so close to mW (the latter indicating milliwatts, the power of piddly toy lasers). The SI standard is very clear on the capitalization of units, so rest assured, this camera definitely lists the power megawatts. I'm in for three, and I think I'll film my conquest of a couple countries to test them out.

:-D

lol quite! is "no laser battles" in the downhill racing rulebook, or will it need a rewrite?

Maybe someone else already pointed it out, but according to the specs, Woot has listed it as having a 1 mega-watt laser. Hmm... I'd buy one just for the laser!

edit: I really should have read all the posts I guess.

I just called Swann (their CS is awesome) and even though it is after hours they answered.

I own lots of Swann Cameras and I am pretty loyal to them. Anyone that has knocked them on this forum has NEVER called them. I say that with confidence.

They have, stock and ship the batteries for this for $39.99, plus $5 shipping. They just call it the "Free Style HD Pro Extra battery". I asked if they had a specific part number and the answer was no.

How do you get one? They send you a credit card form to fill out or can take the order over the phone during normal business hours.

Battery typically lasts 3+ hours new.

Edit: Batteries are quickly swappable too

Has anyone used one of these for any scuba? I am wondering if it needs a lens fix like the gopro to be useful underwater.

Yes, it does time lapse. You pick between 2 seconds and 60 seconds between shots.

If interested, download the manual on the Woot page. Lots of questions answered there...

Also, battery life runs 2.5 at HD and VGA and 3.5 hrs at lower resolutions.

Battery available for $40 and is a quick change.

I'm in for one...
I read that the lens is 170* which is not bad...

Thanks...

I don't seem to find the battery for it. I think the model should be DS-SD20 but don't seem to find any after market batteries.

Turtles underwater Video

RC FPV Video

A couple more videos, change Quality to see it at max.

Note the RC video would have better motion at 720/60fps, but Youtube downgrades that to 720/30fps anyway.

Not much time left to get one, but the videos show it is a fairly decent camera over all.

I've personally used this camera and for under $199 nothing comes close. The screen and remote option is priceless. SWann has been around for decades in the security camera business. Nice to see a quality and trusted company get into this area. By the way, I own 2,and love mine and so do my teenagers.

Costco has these for only $10 more, and includes an SD card. Much better return at Costco..

Wish I had noticed that before I ordered... Also, bestbuy has a 3D attachment that should work with these.. It was reduced to $39, but requires 2 cameras to do 3D

Mine arrived today, purchased at 5:18 PM eastern.

The mounts and connections it comes with is awesome. Gonna test it out tomorrow on my motorcycle.

I wanted to be able to wear it so I detached the clip from the remote and stuck one of the mounts to it with the 3M tape. Using the L mount between the clip and the camera feels and looks like it should hold up nicely.

Got mine yesterday and charged it overnight. Will no power up without the charger connected. Waiting for US cust. service to open, but quick question for those that bought. Behind the battery I have only 2 gold contacts raised, a third seems to be missing. Is yours the same, or would that be my problem? Thanks

Received mine yesterday as well. I really like it so far, got it all charged up and used a gorilla pod this morning to try out the timelapse on my drive in for work. I second that a suction mount would be nice and I will be looking for one soon (although the mounts it comes with are great, I am always weary of "permanent" mounts).

p.s. the laser sticker on the side shows:
peak power <1mW

Looks like it, all 3 contacts are used. Of course do the return with Woot, they were really fast the one time I had a bad item..

Two arrived yesterday, one of my faster Woots, ordered later on Friday.

For those complaining about only stick on mounts, you are seeing the larger helmet stick on has strap slots too, aren't you? Maybe not the best other mount, but it's something, only need a strap.

The rubber rings are for on the camera or mount at the 1/4-20 mounting hole, to keep it from rotating. The short mount already has a 3rd rubber ring on it, look at it around the mounting screw to get the idea. That's on the mount, but you could stick a ring around the hole on the cam or case.

Also, 5V 1 Amp supply, takes 3.5-4 hours to charge by the book, roughly the same as how long it runs. It would take twice as much supply to both run it, and charge. And it's too much from a normal USB port, to even run. So no surprise they went with charge only, it's too high power to do otherwise, USB is limited in what it can do. Even if you make it run special with the adapter, you'll get all kinds of 'why doesn't it work in a normal USB port?' etc..

Strip lakes out back, how they made the subdivision here near the beach. Can't wait to get underwater video of the fish and turtles, I'll post a link once I get something good up on Youtube.

Can't wait to get one on a plane.

Thanks Alan, but now I am more confused. I finally got hold of US service (in India, of course) and she said that only 2 of the contacts are used. Although there is plces for 3, only 2 have raised metal that contacts the battery. Is she bsing me?
For the record, the steady red light shows the battery is charged, but the unit will not power up at all when not plugged in
