I wonder if they can apply the same concept to a small space heater unit? I'd definitely buy that. Don't really need a cooling fan, but I use small space heaters in my house and office regularly.

It is, in fact, eminently compatible with *all* iDevices, guaranteed to keep them all as cool as the proverbial cucumber, with less turbulence - and no (exposed) blades!!!

Also compatible with various Linux and Windows devices, as well as select models of IBM System/370 mainframes.

Interesting too is the fact that all my recent Woot shipments are arriving in what appear to be Amazon style boxes (evidenced by markings onnthe bottom of the box) without the overlord branding - and also have overlord-style packing lists (where pre-overlord shipments normally dint come with any packing lists at all).

My 22" Patton steel-cage fan I bought JUST went out of warranty.

I bought it in 2002. For $50.

How long's the warranty on this? Oh. I can buy a 1 year warranty for $16?

Doesn't sound like Dyson's terribly confident of their product. Even new, it's only a two year warranty.

I'll grant that they're a different class of product. The Patton doesn't oscillate. And while it's very quiet on Low speed, on High it's horribly loud - but on High, it will cool my entire house.

It looks like Patton's smaller fans don't have the ten year warranty any more. They're still three year, though.

Have to agree with Dave on this one. The Vornado's move a LOT of air. If you need an exceptionally directional fan, that's the one to get. Nice thing about the Vornado is that you can put it in another room (say, where the window air conditioner is located) and blow the air into the room across the hall. And from a distance, can't even here the noise of the Vornado and just a low hum from the window a/c. And I think I got my Vornado(s) from Woot!

I bought two of these when they were briefly marketed as a different model. I think there was something horribly wrong with them however- when I turned one on, the interior shone a brilliant red. The other? Blue. No air moved that I could tell, but when I stuck my hand through the red circle, it would APPEAR THROUGH THE BLUE ONE. I think I must have gotten an early prototype or something.

On the plus side, I moved one to my bedroom, and one next to my washer and dryer. Now I never have to cart my dirty laundry down the stairs, so I have that going for me.

This design makes the fan inefficient.. but it's not without it's charm.. not a good value if you just need a fan..

Please... get the video camera out and plug it in to 220v after you hit the record button. It will be a "Must See" on YouTube. I can only imagine what the fanless fan will sound like as it spools up to combustion. Smoke and flames coming out of the ring will also be an awesome sight.

Also, from experience, these are a little weak for the amount of power they use. It's also a lot of fun to get dead bug parts out after they've been in storage for a while...

Well, neither Woot nor Dyson claims that it's fanless. They say that it's "bladeless," which is somewhat true. I've looked inside the chassis but I can't tell whether there is a traditional fan or a centrifugal fan. If the fan is centrifugal (like those used in most cylindrical tower fans), then one can arguably say that it's "bladeless." More likely, it uses a vane-axial design, which is a standard bladed fan inside a tube, with airflow guided by vanes. So yes, it's internally bladed but since blades don't move much of the external air that reaches you, they call it bladeless. It's similar to calling a gadget "cordless" or "wireless" even though it clearly still has wires inside and often uses a cord to recharge.

Well, in the spirit of Everyone being absurdly obtuse...

This product IS a "small space heater."

A fan does NOT cool air. Moving air is neither cooler or warmer than stationary air. You must be physically within the moving air to feel a physical cooling effect upon your humanoid body.

A fan's electric motor actually adds heat to that airstream and room. Whether or not you are in the presence of an operating fan, it is a "small space heater."

:-)

"Fan" just isn't descriptive enough.

I'm a "fan"! (And yes, I too blow hot air)

So how about we label them a Rotary Atmospheric Disturbance Apparatus??
