Where does Woot find these? I have never seen the internals of a desktop like this. No Internal power supply? No ventilation of any kind? Wow... a low powered laptop in a desktop case. Yes, a lawnmower engine driving a tractor trailer.

This does look like it was cobbled together from leftover parts and cases that were in some warehouse. But for a non-enthusiast of ANY age, one could write, work on basic web pages, check email, check news, etc. Toss on Libre Office and away you go.

Does this budget laptop in a desktop case include a monitor or battery?

Might be good for podcasting with such a quiet box. ...oops, I just saw the back and there is a fan....forget about it.

Yes, but this laptop-in-a-desktop doesn't even include wi-fi. Even the cheapest netbook at this price has video out for a full sized monitor and includes wi-fi. Heck, you could even add a USB keyboard and mouse to one.

Well, I did a little research and this actually got a pretty good review compared to other netbooks... performance wise and battery life compared to the Apple MacBook Air 11.6-inch and other netbooks in this class.

Ditch case, copy HD to an SSD, add cellular modem USB stick, wire to automotive electrical system. Instant Win7 in-car computer.

In fact judging from what's in it, it would make the perfect home theater solution. And! It only burns 65 watts! This is an excellent deal. I hate computer snobs that think everyone needs a Mac truck to move a bale of hay. This machine is great for 99 percent of everyone's needs. If your a gamer go elsewhere but even an occasional gamer will find this machine plays almost all of the current crop of games at reasonable settings. So all I can say is grow up computer nerds and realise that most of us don't need personal extension devices such as mustangs, 3000 dollar Japanese knives and in this case 8 core, multi terrabyte, 3000 core video card, 1000 watt power wasting monsters to make us feel powerful.
Ummm, ok.

Lilliput makes PC computer systems for cars at excellent prices and I believe they include SSDs. Actually, the AMD E-450, the same mobile processor on this HP is their current flagship processor model.

What??? This isn't a netbook, so unless you are ONLY talking about the processor. this make no sense. There is no "battery life" to compare.

This IS the motherboard on that HP netbook installed in THIS desktop case.

Anybody know how much money on power is saved with a 65 watt system vs whatever is standard? Assume you leave it on 50% of the time as you DL stuff, stream, etc.

Ok, so you you were referencing the board. Thanks for clearing that up. I wonder if this is a more "green" alternative due to the lower power?

The lack of WiFi is odd, but I see ports on the back for regular monitors and the HD output as well. What do you mean by a "full sized" monitor?"

Radiojohn, I am just bothered by companies selling off crap to unknowing individuals. To me it's like selling a car to someone knowing that the transmission is about to blow and just pass the junk off to someone else. This is very overpriced for what you get. If it included even a small 12" monitor and back up battery and wifi I would think it's fair, but not this. It is fooling people that it is a desktop when it is truly not.

Some day I'm going to write a sarcastic article about "opinion" sites. My fave was the person who bought a $79 sub netbook running WIN/CE (a PDA OS) and complained about how, on Christmas Day, her little girl was crying because it wouldn't play her favorite online games.
Speaking of odd OS ideas, would this thing be happy with some fairly standard version of Linux?

A point well taken. OTOH, those of us who were weaned on DOS machines understand that, when you match the software to the capabilities of the unit, you get good performance. But you are right: I can go to any big box store today and get a better deal with WiFI, etc. Maybe $179.95 is a better price?

You could find a MUCH better desktop for the same price. Don't buy this crap.

It looks as though the HP technology integration people finally came up with a working solution to their overheating laptops.
That's not unnecessary empty space inside that oversized case... it's mandatory cooling space. And without a fan, probably just enough space to eek it past that pesky 90-day warranty period.
Having learned my lesson - now being the proud owner of a beautiful 17 inch HP fried laptop brick siting on my closet floor - before I'd ever consider purchasing this POS, I would have wanted to purchase the previous WOOT (Dyson fan) to use as a PC cooling fan.

I'm sure it would be, but at the price for this one, it's a lot smarter to build a basic micro-ITX case unit for less money. The only saving grace for this unit is the Win7 license.
Recreating the same hardware to run Linux for less money is easy. Add the Win7 license and it gets difficult.
