I was just going to post this deal. Now this is a good deal, 139 for the fire. At least you know what you are getting for the price.

Does it do Google Docs, or a similar app? i.e. first and foremost editing documents, and secondarily sharing those documents with someone in a different location?

That's what my teen daughter always wants to use my smartphone or laptop for. Writing fiction, both on her own, and also collaborating with her friend in another city.

Will this tablet work for that?

This is the woot that made me stop wooting. Terrible, terrible product- I was hoping to use it to view recipes in my kitchen, but too slow and clunky to make even that a positive experience.

We carried this tablet at the Radioshack I work at. There was a special on them for black friday, and within a week all but two of them were returned. We sold about 15. If you're not expecting much, go ahead. But, if you want something better than your smartphone, I'd steer clear.

Starting to think I should just give up checking daily for a replacement Roomba or USB powered toy stocking stuffers. Maybe a radio controlled helicopter usable indoors? This is starting to feel more like a flea market full of junk than the old woot.

$60 for a tablet? Perfect for that little kid you have at home.

I wonder if there is going to be a Woot R.A.F.T. with this tablet.

Glad I saw this before hitting the buy button! This thing is not even good for the kids!

This sounds kind of like finding a really low price on a Pentium computer running Windows 95. It has some functionality, but would you really want to use it?

Imagine the look of total disappointment on your toddler's face when you give them one of these to play with.

My beagle wouldn't even chew on this.

This one is $120, runs ICS, better processor, RAM, just all together better. If you are stuck on a budget, I would not go cheaper than this.It even comes with Android Market.

I've been looking at tablets and concluded that that level of device seemed like the minimum to really consider. Anything less just sounded like more frustration than function. hey -- how is watching video on these? I was thinking about picking up a couple for the kids to watch videos in the car -- instead of DVD players (which are almost dead).... if it can play videos well and they look half way decent -- probably worth it??

thanks

Using this link.

Improves it adding real Google market etc.

I use mine for recipes, simple surfing, ebooks, and some
Apps including words with friends.

But wouldn't really recommend it. Many apps are incompatible and it is slow and it's unresponsive for a capacitive device.

It's fine for watching video once you put the video in a lower resolution.
I have 1 for each kid and I use Popcorn to put video into a mp4 format for these for the kids.
Sound is not great over speakers or headphones.
youtube works fine through the supplied youtube app.
surfing is fine also, we have had few problems with the wifi performance, have to delete the connection once in a while and reconnect.
The PITA is getting the files on these, have to use a card reader, cannot easily put files on these over USB from a Mac that I have found.

Sorry if it's been asked, but I didn't feel like running through 5 pages of comments looking for an answer!

I'm wondering if it's really good for movies. From what I did read, it's not good at all. I'd like something to lay in bed with that isn't gonna take up too much room like a laptop.

I did this because I wanted him to be able to experiment, play and not become frustrated with things not working right. Currently he has a rooted Evo that he loves playing with, and he can do everything from video chat, texting ,photos, videos, email, youtube ,games, changing and downloading backgrounds. The Evo is a decent device that can run Apps- todays Velocity Micro is a hunk of junk. You can't give this to a kid because it will frustrate them and they will lose interest.

A lot of posters say 'would be great for kids' ... why are buggy, unreliable, almost unusable products always 'great for kids'? Because they're cheap? Because you want to suck the joy out of life for the young? teach 'em the meaning of frustration and disappointment? Of the three I got, 2 died and one is in a drawer somewhere ... when I contacted Woot about the dead ones I was referred to Cruz .. they should have told me to talk to my cat about it ... there is zero chance of getting a resolution from Cruz, at least my cat would have got a little attention out of the deal ...

Why pay $60 for a box of irritation?

Agree. Like I said in an earlier post, giving these to kids is going to cause quite an uproar. All the points you mentioned are true so I wont repeat them, but good grief, what are folks thinking? Give this to your young kid and your gonna hear non stop screaming and have non stop frustration and 1 GIANT headache that is worth paying $500 for an ipad just to avoid..Yep...Get this for your kids for $60...or $10...And trust me, you'll wish you spent $500-$1000 just to avoid the frustrations, headaches and NOT VERY HAPPY KIDS...

Even tech savy geeks get huge headaches trying to get this to work...but folks think toddlers or young kids will have better luck....and be happy with a device they cant get to work, hence they scream non stop for mom or dad to fix 24/7?

People....Common Sense is a good thing.

Even better when you use it!

For the money....and for young kids...Splurge a whopping FEW DOLLARS more and get them a tablet that works.

Crazy nuts to buy this when for not much more $$'s you can have a brand name that actually works and both kids or adults would love...

People keep saying these would make great gifts. Really? To whom? Maybe your worst enemy but I would be far too embarrassed to give this as a gift to anyone I actually care about.

The processor is actually 600 mhz. This is the CPU it uses:

http://en.ingenic.cn/product.aspx?ID=58

http://www.hdhorizon.com/en/CRUZ%20T301.php

**don't be mislead by by "dual core or multicore"- it only has 1 CPU core, the other cores are VPU/GPU- kind of false advertising. The cheap tabs do this to make their product look more impressive.

As an ebook reader it might be OK. For much else it would probably give someone a headache. Loading of the ebooks could be slow, and I don't know what quality screen it has, but I doubt its that great at this price point.

Good Choice. 1saleaday is where I got my 7" acer iconia- I had a good experience. No scratches or anything. The Tegra 2 processor with 1gb of RAM makes Android a much better experience. I bought an alpha 2 skypad from Newegg for $130 (new), and had a good experience also, but I much prefer the Acer. But this Skypad blows away what they are offering here today. It runs ICS (updated through website), it come with root access has a 1.2ghz ARM processor with a MALI400 video processor. It's definitely very usable, but for another $60 the Acer was a better deal.

I tried it on my T301, not so good. The color range is poor, the viewing angle is poor, and the processor takes 7-14 seconds to decompress an image to the screen.

I bought this device for my wife for Christmas from Woot. I used it for awhile in order to become familiar before X-mas, but it froze up pretty frequently for no apparent reason. I returned it to Woot and expected them to send a replacement. They had no stock so couldn't send another. I assumed the instability of the device was specific to my first unit so I bought another off ebay for the same price. It was also unstable, sporadically freezing. We have gotten a lot of use and enjoyment out of it, primarily for audiobooks and e-reader, but also enjoy Youtube music videos. I think it's a fun toy, but so unstable I taped a paperclip piece in the reset hole for easy reboot. I've read about rooting and custom ROM but am afraid to make it even less stable as a result. Has anybody found a tried and true method to improve the stability? I can deal with slow performance but having it freeze frequently drives me nuts!

The specs list a front camera.

Those who have it and rooted it: can you install Skype and how well does it work?

I bought a HTC Flyer three weeks which is used mainly by my kids to talk to relatives on Skype. That makes it a rather expensive one-purpose device.

I bought a pair for myself and my girlfriend around Christmas time last year.

Mine no longer turns on, trying to reboot didn't work and unplugging the battery didn't reset it either so I have a 60 rock which I can neither return nor get a replacement since the 90 day warranty is up. Hers is incredibly slow and runs out of battery power after a few hours. Not at all worth it. Terrible.

This Acer A100 ($190)is a better tablet for less money:tegra2 dual core (vs single core), 1gb ram (vs 512), honeycomb that will be updated to ICS (vs android 2.3)and it has better cameras. The Lenovo is not bad by any means, but for that money the Acer is a better buy.
