undying? is this some sort of necromancy you perform on the box?

Ack, clicked to get one after a long day, and it had just disappeared. Sigh. My HD will have to survive just a little longer then.

I coach diving and we have an old gen TIVO hooked to a video camera that is used only to capture the picture. The TIVO records the video and we set a 30 second delay so the kids have time to do the dive with the TIVO recording it, then quickly get out of the pool and come to the screen to watch the replay.

I called TIVO to ask if we needed any kind of subscription to be able to do this same thing with the TIVO premiere. The guy said that we could, so I picked up the one from Woot. The further I read through comments in this discussion, I am getting worried that maybe I was misinformed by the TIVO CSR.

Does anyone know if I can still record from an "outside" video source (like a video amera via RCA) plus replay to a monitor without any kind of subscription?

Fingers are crossed...

I believe unsubscribed TiVos can still buffer live TV. If that's what you're doing (hitting "pause" and waiting 30 seconds), that should work albeit with frequent nag screens.

You won't be able to save anything permanently.

I bought 3 of these the last time they did this. I couldn't be happier. Much better than FIOS dvr. Love the UI, fluid and detailed. The Tivo community have some pretty talented guys that have come up with some apps that 1) allow me to watch all the movies I have saved to a computer/nas. 2) download, remove commercials and convert the saved Tivo shows on the Tivo hard drives (for as many Tivos as you have) to a drive connected to a computer.
I'm currently pushing for a Plex client in both the
Tivo forums and Plex forums. I hope it happens.

I bought lifetime for each box, calculated payback from Fios to be 3.5 years.

Good deal - when I bought a Premiere last year, it was $59.99 over at deals.woot.com. There is a nice long discussion over there too, including some tricks that may work to get the cheaper $399 lifetime subscription for existing TiVo owners vs. the full $499 for new subscribers.

I haven't actually activated mine yet - I'm keeping it in reserve if Frontier decides to jack up the price of its FiOS TV programming like it threatened to do last year.

Update: Got off the phone with CS and they said the TSN does not exist.

Got mine yesterday and activated it on tivo's website last night. Got it setup in entertainment center, but it wouldn't boot up. Looks like mine had a faulty hard drive. Had to call Tivo three times before I talked to someone who would authorize a replacement. First person I talked with said since it was bought from a non-authorized reseller they couldn't know whether or not the box was opened and the warranty voided. Called back and talked with someone who had a little more sense.

Bottom line, if you get a defective unit and tivo tries to tell you they can't authorize a return either call back or ask to speak with a different rep.

Have any existing Tivo subscribers tried the PLSR code out while activating these boxes? It supposedly drops the cost $100. I can't tell if this is for new subscribers only though. I'd really like to get a lifetime subscription for $299.

Has anyone had trouble with Comcast CableCards in these units? I had a TiVo HD with a Motorola M-Card (issued by Comcast). Everything worked perfectly. When I put the same cable card in the new Premiere, and worked with Comcast to pair the card with the TiVo, I get no Signal Strength, no Signal Lock and I don't get all my channels.

I have called Comcast 3 times now, and each time they tell me they have paired the CableCard to the TiVo unit, and they are "sending signal" ... then they tell me it could be 30-45 mins before the TiVo downloads all the channel information.

Signal Strength, Lock and Program Lock all report "-" (instead of a number, like my other Tivo HD) ...

Any insight?

Getting pretty much the same thing with TWCable. Bought two of these, got two cable cards and tuning adapters from TWC, one Tivo says Not Staged, the other says No CA STRM. under the Cable Card DAVIC screen both units say Not Locked for a status. TWC wants to send a tech but I'm starting to wonder if we all got bad a bad batch... Anyone have theirs working with TWC?

I'm having the exact same problem. Comcast even sent a guy out to me yesterday, still no luck. Looks like I'll be spending some time on the phone with TiVo. Hey, people who have called TiVo about these boxes -- did they know about the woot deal, or did you have to assure them that you didn't buy your TiVo out of the back of a van?

The first call I made for activation questions, the guy assumed automatically that it wqs from woot because of how many calls he was getting. The second time I called, for tech support and to get a replacement, the guy hadn't heard of woot, but then put me on hold and did some research.

Regardless, if they are all crap boxes, at least we can get them exchanged :-P don't know how I feel about the early termination fee for cancelling though. Kind d of a weird contract for unsubsidized equipment.

Just a quick update, TWC is sending a truck on Wednesday with what I'm being told is a stack of cable cards to see what is going on here. We'll see what happens. I've talked to Tivo about this situation, they state that anything having to do with a cable card is the cable company's problem.

Another update, I had TWC come out, they saw I was using the wrong brand of cable cards, changed them out for Motorolas and now everything is working like a charm! Thanks Woot!
