Working hard! I've been on sabbatical leave for the spring of 2012, so I've been doing other things. Right now trying to get some final data analysis so I can get some publications for the summer out.

PS- woot's been really wonky for me. Can't seem to post

Weren't you supposed to be in Hawaii this summer?

I wanted to go to Hawaii, but the airline prices and gas prices were so exorbitant, when they cut the funds for my research by 20%, I switched to a more local bird (seaside sparrow). So me been home. Which is great for family, as my wife thought I would be gone for months. I never left.

Skek, if you want to compare East and West I'll gladly go do some coastal field work for you

My grants up July 1, boss is going to try to find more money this week. I guess I'm still lucky that he only threatened to make my job a graduate project, because then I'd have to go find the money

Ah well off to the charter school cafeteria. Co-worker called and asked me to cover all of today. Yay me.

I remember hearing a talk about them when I was at Humbolt for a Wildlife Society Conclave event. After a quick Google search it looks like I'm right on the edge of their habitat. I honestly didn't think they were this far inland, but they seem to follow the snake down into Southern ID and I'm currently just north of the Columbia.

Well, it'd have to wait until next summer. I would want to get the appropriate permits to collect nestlings. Then bring them into the lab, hand raise them, then tutor them appropriate songs. But I would never turn down sound recordings....

The ones in Washington are pugetensis subspecies. They're critters I haven't gotten to yet. The oriantha we got in Tioga Pass, Mono County, CA. And the gambelii were from Churchill Manitoba. But as long as the birds are puget's, not nuttall's, that'd be cool.

My paper shredder needs to cool down again. So I'm back.

I'll have to get some better range maps than the quick Google search I did earlier. What are you hoping to discover with teaching the young a different song?

Pawn it off on a sibling and move to the other side of the country?

It could be worse Fen, it really could... it just doesn't always feel that way.
