Why do they have Dysons on here all the time? Why not Miele?

Oh yeah, a Miele never breaks... no refurbs available. I guess that's what happens when a large chunk of the purchase price is spent on manufacturing rather than hype... quality.

Decided to splurge on the last woot off for this. With a menagerie in the house, the old vacuum wasn't up to the amounts of animal hair. This works great and is worth additional money over your traditional vacuum. The telescoping wand takes a little getting used to and isn't as practical as I'd like, but overall I'd highly recommend the Dyson.

Save some money and buy a new Shark. I'm not a Dyson hater, but they the Shark is just as good and much cheaper. The premium in price is simply to pay for the fancy marketing that so many wooters have apparently fallen for.

I love my Dyson! It's not a ball, I'm tempted to get this one. Mine's a refurb too and I have never had one bit of trouble with it, and support has been great. We moved into this house and it had new, VERY cheap carpeting installed. Unfortunately the Dyson has been very hard on this CHEAP carpet. Pulled tons of fuzz up for the first month, and now some of the carpet has wrinkles so it needs stretching re-tacking. I'm not sure if this is due to the Dyson, or just the cheap quality of the carpet/installation. But I had good quality berber in our other house and had no problems with it at all. And I don't drive a Prius or use Apple products!

Dyson may not exactly be crap compared to lower-priced brands like my Eureka (although my $55 Eureka has many more features and attachments) but it is certainly nowhere near the value of the premium you pay for one, even on this woot deal. As many others have posted, they have had problems with theirs. My Eureka replaced a 10-year-old Eureka that was still working just fine. It's getting moved to the parents so they have two vacuums so they don't have to carry one up and down stairs.

The ball is clever, but at the end of the day what you have is yet another made-in-China mostly plastic vacuum.

If they were as good as Dyson markets them to be, they wouldn't constantly be selling refurbs of them on woot.

Good marketing breeds brand loyalty, which is exactly what most marketing departments aim for. Doesn't always mean it is deserved. Sometimes it just means customers are gullible to slick marketing.

I bought one of these last time they were on sale here, and now I can't even get my hands on it. My husband and my son love it so much they vacuum every week for me. I only get to do little spot clean ups now and then, and then only if I find them first.

This vacuum does the job better, faster, and cleaner than any vacuum I've ever owned. Mine is also a refurb, and I have absolutely NO issues with it at all. Even the attachments work great! I have 5 dogs in the house, and I can finally keep up with all the dog hair and paw print traffic! This product has my highest recommendation!

We've had this vacuum for a little over a year, got it as a wedding present. We wag it up and down the steps of our 3 story home and use it on every floor, hard or carpet, and the steps. Easily the best vacuum ever.

Light, powerful, easy to empty, and very easy to use. At this price, I am considering getting my mother one for Mother's Day.

I bought one of these from Woot! last year for my mother after she had back surgery. She was complaining that her old one was hard to maneuver and made her back hurt. She really likes this one.

After her reviews, I though about getting one for my house - but mine is mostly laminate flooring. Not as much need.

I had to gift it to her as she watches my giant, goofy dog while I work (see avatar photo). Now she feels slightly guilty complaining about him (not that it stops her). Still... worth every penny.

I got one from woot about a year ago. BEWARE - The warranty is TOO SHORT and individual parts are NOT AVAILABLE. A small gear in the brush head of mine broke a month after the warranty expired. They don't sell it individually, and I had to pay something like $120 to buy a whole new brush head.

Got a Kirby Sentria. It has more vacuum power than any of the consumer models. Sure its much more expensive, but I figure the life expectency of Dyson, Hoover, etc is 4-5 years... Kirby is 20+ years...

Correlation is not causation, of course, but if I'm going to be at home, I no longer need to use allergy medication on a daily basis. With Allegra no longer covered by insurance, what I save on allergy medication (and tissues...) may have paid for the DC-35 by now.

Does anyone need a Dyson? Probably not - but as someone who grew up loathing "it" brands and expensive items based on parent-taught principles, I'm surprised to find myself an evangelical for a very expensive, very "brand-focused" brand. For someone with asthma, allergies, dogs, and very little time or desire to clean, the DC-35 has improved my quality-of-life.

If you suffer from asthma or other respiratory symptoms, you shouldn't even consider a Dyson. They aren't sealed units, and if you put a particle counter next to them you will soon find out they spew air all over the place.

Keep in mind when they talk about their HEPA filter, they are talking about the filter itself. The filter (when used outside of the vaccuum) does meet HEPA standards, but as a whole unit no Dyson is even close to being sealed. You can head out to youtube and watch all types of videos of people with particle counters showing how Dysons leak.

To be clear, this isn't to pick on Dyson because most vacuums leak - some worse than others. However if you really want a vacuum cleaner that not only cleans the carpeting but also cleans the air as you are using it, then the only solution is to get a high end sealed unit like a Miele. I've seen first hand how they operate, and if you put a particle counter up to their exhaust it reads zero. Seriously - the air coming out of one of them is 100% clean with zero particulate matter. They are amazing, and when compared to a new (non-refurb) Dyson, they are about the same cost.

I'm sure there are other high end brands that would offer the same performance as well, but the bottom line is for people with asthma a Dyson is not the way to go.

I have this weird little MLM door to door "Tri Star" vac that I found for $10 at the Salvation Army Store. The exhaust output looks like a gas cap and you can buy a HEPA filter to cover it. This seems to be a good solution. But DON'T even think of buying one of these vacs NEW!!! They try to get you to pay $3,000 for one!!!

Here is something that should concern everyone. In the US, Dyson is not the number one vacuum cleaner brand sold, yet they have a huge number of refurbs available at any given point. Why is that?

I know the Dyson fan-club likes to say buyers remorse, but if these vacuums were really as special as we have been told, people would be so pleased they would never return them.

The truth is we see more and more people coming out of the woodwork talking about how their Dysons have broken a few years later. Just look at this thread alone - a couple of years ago the Woot community was FULL of Dyson fanboys and there were very few people that said a negative word about them. Now a few short years later the comments are full of people who have owned them and were either not impressed, or who experienced a failure in their magic vacuum cleaner.

The truth is, if you want a refurb Dyson, you can grab one from Woot three or four times a month. You can also go over to Buy.com, Overstock, Amazon, Home Depot.com, or even to Best Buy brick and mortar stores all of which actually STOCK refurbed Dysons.

Let me ask you... when is the last time you saw a refurb Hoover sitting on the shelves of Best Buy? I'm not saying they don't exist, but if you want one you have to look for it and/or order it direct from Hoover. They don't have enough of them to supply these huge companies with sufficient stock so they can sell them direct.

That tells me a lot about Dyson quality. What tells me even more is when I went into a local vacuum service center to buy some bags for my central vac (which they didn't have, but that is another story) and sitting there waiting for repair were about a dozen vacuums. There was a Kirby, an Oreck, a couple others I didn't recognize, and about six or seven Dysons. The salesman said they get a lot of them in for repair.... plus the parts are expensive since everything is proprietary.

Finally this: http://redpushpin.blogspot.com/2009/03/james-dyson-sucks.html

Add that to the fact they are always ranked fairly low during independent testing (Consumer Reports and others) and thats all I need to know about Dyson.

I now know why the Dysons are a bit better than some of these "cyclonic" reproductions that other companies are selling. I have two that my neighbors threw out and gave to me when they got Dysons. A Bissel and a Hoover. Theres so many filters that need to be cleaned so often and the dirt cups fill up so quickly. If you don't empty the dirt cup when it hits the 1 inch fill line, you end up with tons of crap in the washable filters making them useless and need replacement. They are expensive.

Now the Dyson filters they say every 3 months. The dirt cup holds quite a bit more dirt, so that's good. But frankly after all of this mess, these things leak like crazy. You don't need a particulate counter to see the dust the machine will be covered in it after you use it a few times. Ill go back to using my old dirtdevil featherlight bagless, even it it does loose suction according to Mr Dyson it still doesn't give me all of this trouble. If I want super clean air I will go back to a bag vac and use HEPA bags which you can get for almost any machine now. Even an old Electrolux.

Doesn't anyone remember the days when the vac bag got full you just threw it out? No stupid filters, no dust everywhere no dirt cups to clean? There is probably a reason why Miele and Kirby use bags in their vacs and don't sell any bagless units.

Super happy with my $55 Eureka I got from home.woot last month. I'll leave the Dysons for people with Apple stickers on the back of their VWs.

As someone who just replaced a $55 Eureka (443B, if you want the exact model) with a Dyson from the last Woot-off I can tell you there is NO comparison. Just to test I vacuumed my carpet with said $55 Eureka right before the first pass with the refurbed Dyson. The Dyson pulled up 3 canisters full of dust, dirt, and pet hair (probably about 1 pound worth). It was disgusting to know so much filth has been living in my carpet that I didn't even know about. Oh, and this is out of a single 7x9 area rug.

Needless to say that I absolutely disagree that the Dyson is "marketing, nothing more, nothing less". My $55 Eureka went in the garbage immediately.

I've owned a Dyson (the Dyson Animal) for about 2-3 years now, and it is the BOMB!! It has the same great suction power today that it had the day I bought it, and it easily picks up the things no other vacuums seemed to be able to (pet hair, pine needles). It also works great on hard floors. I will never buy another vacuum that's not a Dyson!!

I don't own this, but I bought the DC-14 refurb from Woot last year in October for $180.

The Dyson replaced my 5 year old $50 DirtDevil vacuum that was useless on hardwood floors and barely usable on the carpeted ones.

I was thrilled with the DC14 and still am. Low maintenance, it just works. Very happy Dyson customer so far.

We got our "animal" version 5 years ago as a refurb from a different site.

It's been dropped down a flight of stairs twice, covered in spilt hot wax, abused with drywall dust, etc and still works great.

Also love the spinning brush attachment for the wand that came with it.

We are too waiting for the larger version to show up here.

Hurray, it’s another ridiculously priced Dyson! Let’s all rejoice because it’s $250 instead of $350!

Meanwhile if the new Hoover I just bought for $60 were any stronger it would rip up the carpet. When I let go of it the strength of the carpet brush pulls it forward on its own. I had to turn it over to make sure the wheels aren’t powered. And the one it replaced lasted over a decade. Admittedly I’m single with no pets or kids, so I vacuum probably 10 times a year. But the price difference is so huge the Dyson would have to last 40 years before it started to make sense.

But it’s a Dyson and looks all future-y! Woo hoo! I will use it to clean around my Bose speakers that are connected with Monster cable.

I was previously as skeptical as some of you.

I waited on the last woot-off for a Dyson Animal (didn't care whether it was ball or not), but I didn't see one.

Due to a recent change in my allergies (from being Superman, to now being allergic to everything, including kryptonite) I decided not to wait.

I picked up a 20% off coupon for Bed Bath & Beyond, and got an Animal. Dyson offers a 5 year warranty, and the way BB&B words their return policy, If anything goes wrong in 5 years, I can return it for a brand new one. (That helped justify the long term cost.)

But let me tell you. The amount of dirt it pulled out of my carpet was insane. And I've noticed a giant recession of symptoms while I'm at home.

If you don't have a need for it, it's not worth the cost. But if you do have that need, it's an investment worth making.

I like the one I bought months ago off of woot. It pulled about 2 cats worth of hair and dust just out of my 12x14 living room. That was after vacuuming with that crappy Kenmore upright that I had for a few years. It's a compact vacuum and doesn't take up much closet space either. Overall I'm satisfied with this Dyson.

I will say it sucks for cleaning your car though. The wand is too long to get into the nooks and tight spaces in my car anyway.

I guess I could have just waited at my front door for a Kirby salesman to come knocking and then dropped a few grand on one of those but I would have to sell my ATV to afford it.

I saw a turtle.
