CNET review for the 16gb version. I cant imagine they differ much besides size.

Is it my imagination, or is this kinda expensive for a re-furbished no-name Android tablet? At least it has a capacitive touch screen and HDMI.

Amazon seems to like it, but kind of whines about the screen.

Here is a 10 minute video review of the product. It had the most views and the best ratings.

If Dyson made a tablet, recalled it, then refurbished it, would we ever have to check woot again?

Or does it just feel like there's a Dyson or a tablet every day?

Archos has been around for years

Archos tablets are cheap for a reason. If you want a budget tablet running an out of date version of android spend the extra $50 for either a kindle fire or nook tablet. You'll be happier. Especially if you root the nook.

Yes, and so has KDS (longer, in fact). It still strikes most people as "generic." It doesn't matter how long your "brand" is in the tooth if you haven't distinguished it. I know they make perfectly nice stuff, but they're not Apple, Samsung, Motorola, or even Sony.

Personally, I miss the weekly Roombas.

I have a 10 year old Archos Jukebox MP3 player. They're a quality company.

I doubt it, since this is a 10.1" device, among other advantages.

Especially if you root the nook.

If you don't then it's not really an Android tablet. And you have to do more than root it, you have to replace the firmware (or dual boot from the SD card).

I'm skipping this one.

It's Android 2.2, no update to Honeycomb or beyond, no Google market, 1024x600 resolution, and no Flash support.

You could get a refurbed Kindle Fire for about the same price, but it doesn't have any video output. However, you can install ICS on it, not sure about this Archos tab.

If you're talking about stupid consumers, sure, Archos doesn't hold any sway with them. They're the guys who are buying crappy Sony tablets and wondering what happened to quality. Savvy consumers know who Archos is and knows that they're going to be purchasing a product by a company that's not going to kill the product in six months.

Then again, I bought a Nook Tablet and installed CM7.

I have an Archos 70 Internet Tablet, Essentially the same internals with a 7" screen, and I'm rather pleased with it. Battery life is good, I think at its best I got through two movies, three episodes of top gear, and an hour or two of music.

It works great as an e-reader or for watching movies, good for web surfing. It does have flash support but It doesn't really have the processing power to use it. Some games work, but I wouldn't play anything more complicated than Draw Something. Angry Birds even taxes this thing. (Though I did have good luck with a SNES emulator :D)

No google apps are preloaded by default but they are VERY easy to acquire with "arctools" from the included appslib marketplace.

Also, In order to get better performance there is a processor speed setting under "power management" in the "device info" section of settings that needs to be set to "overdrive", otherwise the processor is underclocked to 800Mhz.

I bought this right when it came out. It was most decisively the worst $300 I have ever spent. It's slow. And there's also the fact that it's slow. The touch response is horrible and sometimes doesn't register. Battery life is ok, but not great. Did I mention it's speed? It's like using a 14.4k modem again.

You have to hack the android market onto it, and it sometimes works ok. Honestly, I wouldn't even try to read books on this, it's that bad.

I bought this same model over Christmas break. If I were you, I'd save your money for something else.

Yes, it has a big screen and kickstand (the kickstand is actually super handy). And yes, it doesn't take much time at all to get the Amazon App Store, Google Market, and Flash Player up and running.

However, its just too darn slow (the newest Archos Tablets are considerably faster). I constantly had to kill tasks with the included task manager or the measly 256MB of RAM couldn't keep up which caused apps to crash. The web cam was good enough for pictures and Skype would install but... the tablet wasn't fast enough to maintain a smooth picture. I could Skype fine with just voice but, with the video, it was unbearably jerky.

This is fine if you just want a big screen for reading, email, and the occasional movie. If I were you, I'd talk someone down on Craigslist for a $150 Touchpad or just wait for the newer tablets to come down in price.

Archos isn't no name. They've developed one of the first MP3 players and they've been selling tablets a decade before it was cool.

They are the number two seller of tablets in France (where they come from) and only loses to ipads in sales volume.

I...want to know this as well. Primarily whether or not it's possible to update to later versions of Android, and whether or not that would even be practical given the *ahem* 1Ghz (edit) processor and a lack of RAM...

You can't upgrade past Froyo, the Archos 10.1 has 256MB of non-upgradable RAM and Gingerbread requires 512MB of RAM.

Legitimacy of the website, well, i've spent more than 3000$ on the website for the past two years.

These are terrible! Save your money. Bought one, couldn't return it fast enough. Bought an iPad instead. I found there was too much lag time on the touch screen of the Archos......drag your finger across the screen....nothing......drag it again.....still nothing.....drag it a third time and archos sends a thousand pages rolling across your screen so fast it makes your head spin.......stop....regroup......start all over.......same thing. Don't think at this time you could even give me a free one to use as a cutting board.........not unless some real quality stinky French cheese came with it....... And maybe not even then. Adieu.

Oh, and despite its larger screen, this thing has the same resolution as the Kindle Fire: 1024 x 600.

Yeah, I'd suggest a new Kindle Fire or a new 16 GB Blackberry Playbook for $200.

241 lbs. when he bought it so it was over $300. A good deal for a teen getting their 1st tablet for example.
