Poll: I keep my information:
  • 25% - In paper form. I just love my antique wooden filing cabinets, okay? 222
  • 2.9% - In microfiche. We use what we know. 26
  • 4.1% - On burned CDs/DVDs. That way I can have a bunch at the ready. 36
  • 26.7% - On portable devices. I just trust them more. 237
  • 41.3% - I don’t keep my information! That’s playing right into their hands. 367

Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

All of the above, lol.

Hmm, just realized I am more meticulous with backing up my holos than my records lol. I have portable hd's for that, but keep all my records in a box. Heh.

Depending on the type of information I could use any of those methods, but I do keep scans of a lot of the paper.

In the cloud! Encrypted, of course.

But I use a much more affordable scanner to digitize my paper records than the current woot offering.

I feel like this survey skipped out on a very important one...THE CLOUD!
Secondly, what about just digitized on your local hard drive, or backed up to a NAS...come on people!

Multiple copies, multiple places. Hard copies scanned, soft copies in network drives and computer, and phone all backed up to portable drives. Important stuff I take with me on thumb drives as well. Ever since I had both my work laptop and the network server it was backed up to fail on the same day, I keep multiple copies. I don't trust the cloud or any device that has to be accessed through the internet - some times it's just not accessible.

What about just on the hard-drives in my PC or server?

I don't know about all you guys, but I keep it extra secure. All my data is on a microfilm. No one but a 1960's-1980's spy movie hero is interested in microfilm.

Just what do you mean by "information"? Are we talking about copies of phone bills and rent receipts from 1987 that people are reluctant to throw out because they all say "Save for your records" on them?

Exactly. Important info on portable devices? No thanks. I'll stick to my mirrored server-quality internal hard drives.

Agreed. Configure and secure your own server if you want to access data from anywhere. Hold dominion over thine own devices and security. Don't let Company X share it out to the world.

I keep virtually all my information on a 1TB hard drive and various flash drives, along with a ton of other stuff. I leave this hard drive disconnected from my computer until I want to use it.

(BTW, I ordered a 64 GB flash drive from Woot 5 days ago and it arrived today. Woot rocks!)

I use dropbox and google drive for my most important information. Additionally I back it up on an external drive and a USB drive. But then when you are trying to fix everything you can't afford to loose the data.
