In our own modest way, we believe that Woot-Offs are historic, epoch-making events, on par with presidential elections, presidential assassinations, presidential impeachments, and Katie Couric's move to CBS. Only time will tell if future historians will view the Woot-Off as the defining ritual of early 21st century culture that it is, but this weekend you can help make some Woot-Off history of your own. Your challenge:

Choose a historical figure and show us which product they'd buy from this week's Woot-Off and how they'd use it.

Abe Lincoln's dusty log cabin could've used a thorough going-over by the Koolvac Robotic Vacuum. Jean-Paul Sartre would be intrigued by the philosophical questions raised in the Ultimate Matrix Collection Limited Edition Collector’s Set. And if Wild Bill Hickock had had the World Series of Poker Wireless Plug and Play 15-in-1 TV Game, he could've indulged his card-playing jones with far less risk of being shot.

So, wow... did you guys hear that the Hoff needed surgery after a bizarre accident in a London gym bathroom?

speaking of which.. I got this poster the other day, and it's pretty much the greatest thing ever.

I like your source's description of what happened better...leaves more to the imagination.

Contest 79: Party Time

by 1person Friday, June 30 12:00 AM

We love to party, and we know you animals do too. Why do you think we always start everything at midnight, because we know you're stll up. We know you will party hard in honor of our great nation's birthday. That is why we are giving you a few extra days to come up with a creative scene in which our latest digital-photography bundle is the life of the party. Now it could be any party scene, as long as the scene is not rated R or NC-17. You could place it at Dick Clark's New Years Eve party or even at that rotten nephew of yours 8th birthday party or even at a party that you may attend this weekend.

Imagine a scene in which our precious litlle digital-photography bundle is at a party. Whether it is the life of the party or just making memories of the party

You've got an extra couple of days this time around, in honor of the holiday that pays the mortgage for fireworks dealers everywhere, so take your time and don't expect to see the winners announced until Wednesday, July 5.

Post your entry here by by 11:59 PM CST on Tuesday, July 4, 2006. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. The rules and criteria for winning: our panel of geniuses can and will make stuff up as it goes along. Use Photoshop, pen and ink, collage, MSPaint, Spirograph, iron-on transfers, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png. Try to keep your maximum width to 450px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. We have no connection to either, but they seem free and easy to use. And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images. The more sure we are that you did your own work, the more likely we are to consider it for a prize.

Past money winners: If you'd like to nominate any entries from this week's contest, email your selections (with links to the individual post) to me at jtoon@woot.com by noon CST on Wednesday.

OK. So here we are on the very brink of another extended holiday weekend. Document the creative process that overtakes the core of Stew's very being beginning at 12:01 AM every Friday morning. How DOES he do it. Show us.

It's the start of the holiday season! And no, we aren't talking about the 4th of July, we're talking about that other joyous season... Christmas in July! So many retailers use this scheme to play on our deepest childhood love for christmas. But who do they think they are kidding??? There's no snow, no vacation, no relatives coming to visit (wait, that one is actually ok...)

Anyway, your task this week is to show us just how disappointing this "Christmas in July" really is!

Why are we quoting a classic movie line? Yes, we know it's our country's birthday... and yes, we know that a lot of people will be celebrating it, too. However, the genius' here at Woot are taking note of another birthday celebration; one that could be, with your help, greater than that of a stupid fireworks display. We are referring to the birthday of a great American, Mel Brooks.

"Would you like to roll in ze hay? Roll, roll, roll..."

No, thank you, not a roll in ze hay today. It's the birthday weekend of Mel "Mr. Awards" Brooks, himself. You know who he is and you either love him or you hate him. Either way your entry for this week's Photoshop contest should be very interesting:

Photoshop a famous scene from that great Mel Brooks hit movie, "Young Frankenstein" and include the Lexmark Photo Printer w/ Vivitar 5MP Digital Camera Bundle. Extra points awarded for including Dr. Frankenstein's laboratory assistant, Igor. Points taken away if you make the Printer Bundle his hump. Whatever you do do, make it real, make it good, make it really good.

Post your entry here by by 12:59 AM EST on Wednesday, July 5, 2006. Prizes are $100/$50/$20 for 1st/2nd/3rd. The rules and criteria for winning: our panel of geniuses can and will make stuff up as it goes along. Use Photoshop, pen and ink, collage, MSPaint, Spirograph, iron-on transfers, guitar tablatures, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png. Try to keep your maximum width to 550px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try imageshack.ws, photobucket.com, or wootimagehosting.net. We have no connection to the first two, but they seem free and easy to use, especially the last one (phenominal donation required). And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images. If you want us to be sure your entry was indeed copied from someone else, post links to the original image. The more sure we are that you did (or did not do) your own work, the more likely we are to consider it for a prize (or permanently ban you from the site).

Dr. Frankenstein: "What a filthy job."
Igor: "Could be worse."
Dr. Frankenstein: "How?"
Igor: "Could be raining."

Woot Samaritan

Its 4th of July, well at least it is soon to be, and while we here at woot.com are kicking back and relaxing with our friends and family for this joyous occasion we need not to forget that things don't always go as planned. We are talking about the moments in history where freak accidents happen, 3 twisters come out of no where, a power plant melts down, or the pet shop runs out of puppies! The puppies man, the puppies! But anywho, take comfort in knowing that the stuff we provide here at woot.com can help you overcome any obstacle or hardship, yes even our Blinged out Cabbage.

So show how you can use today's woot item: Lexmark Photo Printer w/ Vivitar 5MP Digital Camera Bundle, as a mean to set things right for the wrongs that can happen in our great country.

Its time to stand-up and to go beyond using woot items for our own personal satisfaction and reach out to help someone in need. Whenever a child has lost her dolly, woot will be there. When a mother is dealing with a stressful child, wine.woot.com will be there. When Puppies go missing from the pet shop, woot will be there. And when ____________________ happens, the printer and camera bundle will be there!
