Just what we needed after the minor fiasco of Contest 96: a return to solid, classic, crowd-pleasing P-chop action in Contest 97. Our challenge to Take a screenshot from a movie or TV show and change the entire cast into children and/or animals struck a chord with y'all, and you responded with hundreds of entries. In fact, we had so many to choose from, we decided to whimsically and capriciously enforce the "screenshot" aspect of our challenge. That means no posters, DVD covers, or vertically-oriented shots are among our winners, with one monkeyfied exception:

First Prize - $100
Josephus - Flags of Our Feathers

Who needs opposable thumbs when you've got the spirit of America on your side? Click for a huge version.

Second Prize - $50
dpoe - iCat, Robot

I'm an iDog person myself. Click again for another huge version.

Third Prize - $20 (tie)
mnementh - Hellrover

We're praying to God that this was done in Photoshop and not in real life.

Third Prize - $20 (tie)
tgentry - To Catch A Predator

Not the springbok you were expecting, eh, Mr. Lion?

Honorable Mention

faithcoaching - Meerkatton
We find this generally hilarious.

Shannarie - Fauna of the Dead
Final version - now with zombie children!

codex - Midnight Deerboy
We're walkin' here!

KMA2 - The, Uh, Three Animal Stooges, We Suppose
Sorry, couldn't come up with anything clever here. Move along to the picture itself.

intaglio - Ostrich or Die Tryin'
We haven't seen an ostrich this pissed since that time we tried to steal those ostrich eggs.

twallis - Ghoats
They're just working on a potter's wheel, see? Strictly PG-13.

Champions' Championship Champion
biscuitwarmer - Primates of the Caribbean
A perfect synthesis of scene, actor, and baboon.

Along with the tough competition for the real prizes this week, the battle for the Monkey Prize was also hard-fought. In the end, we couldn't ignore this ludicrous entry from the poetically-named Dograt1234 :

Sigh...thus ends one of our better contests. If you created a money-winning entry, please email your Paypal info to jtoon@woot.com . The Monkey winner should send his/her mailing address to the same, and Honorable Mentioneers may use coupon code HONMEN-FS for free shipping on a future order. Until next time, never work with children or animals, unless you could maybe win a hundred bucks for it.

Dang, I missed half this contest. It was a fun one, I wish I could have gotten more in. Nice chop Josephus... clear idea + perfectly executed = $100. Wish twallis' Karate Kid had placed, that was my favorite this week. But then again I'm twallis arent' I? Or aren't I?...

There was some good work this week. I would have put To Catch a Predator in the top 2, but all of the, uh, money shots, were great.

Mnementh, you deserve $20 just for masking out those pins and lines. Dang that musta took some time. Or maybe you did it with your secret channel mask technique I have yet to see demonstrated, ahem.

Joe's feathery entry was excellent. It wasn't funny as much as it was inspirational. So, I am VERY impressed that the judges gave him the nod.

Excellent work all.

Congrats to the winners! Good choices by the judges. I look forward to more contests (though it looks like I'll need to spend more than 5 minutes on my entries...ha).

Thanks Woot! Congrats to everyone, I wish each of you nothing but the best.

FYI, Cletus peed all over the kitchen floor today, and believe me, that dog can pee! -so it isn't all peaches and cream even with a win. ;^)

Just got in from being out of town over the weekend & couldn't wait to see the winners. Excellent choices, congrats to all.

After 2 entries, I have learned my lesson. I will be religiously adhering to the contest guidelines from now on!!!

Quick question tho, what's with the "no vertical orientation entry" thing?

The winner or more (?) will be used in a future woot advertisement- that means on a TV screen on the woot product page, I guess. Has to be landscape to work.

scapez03,

I just have to ask...What IS that thing in your signature?? Cat? Dog? Half-drowned Mog? (...that's half-man/half-dog for those of you out there unacquainted with the finer things in life... i.e. Spaceballs...)

BTW, great job by everyone this week! Lot's of...um....interesting entries!

Board is updated.

Ole'Joe firmly entrenches himself in the top 10 with a jump to the #5 spot.

[Corrected: mnenemth tied for third this week, not an HM. Oops.]

The hot race is to see who makes it into the Top 10 first, twallis or tgentry.

Weemdog,

That would be an itty bitty kitteh getting a bath. I fostered a litter over this summer and that was the best of the "bathtime shots". It really is a hilarious picture and captures the misery of the moment purrfectly.

sigh, I know. I'll get on it. It's scary to trim them, you know- if you cut too far, you get this whole massive bleeding thing as in Monty Python and the Holy Grail "its just a flesh wound"

*sigh*
I fear my days in the top 20 are numbered....I had a short run of good luck there, but no lovin' from the judges for me in a long time. But at least I'm in good company here ;-)

Congrats to the winners...and to everyone else, hang in there. It's the variety of entries that makes the contest fun. And you never know...like I said, even I got lucky a couple of times.

EDIT: Come to think of it, there was even a time when Josephus couldn't get a win, and look at him now! Just goes to show what you can accomplish if you keep at it.

Sorry dpoe, it takes a while. From my experience it can be a month and sometimes a little more. Most likely you will get all your winnings at once, though. Best not to include woot winnings in your financial plans. The good news is that while you're waiting, you can focus on winning more. Shouldn't be a problem for you from the looks of it!
