Contest Description:
Two photochoppers will face off in a head-to-head contest each week to create the best possible entry based on the topic presented.

This week, Josephus was hastily challenged by three-time HM and one-time monkey winner, Guiseppi. However in a somewhat inexplicable maneuver, it seems as if Guiseppi has bowed out of the challenge. Will you be Josephus's next competitor? If you're nice, toss your hat into the ring or if you're nasty, throw down the gauntlet!

Dodgeball – Topic for Contest #1

Target marketing motivates a specific set of customers to purchase items or acquire certain services. Woot has planned one evening each month to cater a product or service to a specific group of potential customers.

January = National Dorks Month
February = National Mailbox Decorators Month
March = National Reality TV Enthusiasts Month
April = National Dirty Jobs Month
May = National Coasters Month
June = National Lamp Lovers Month
July = National Evangelists Month
August = National Woot Employee Uniform Month
September = National Space Creatures Month
October = National Goths Month
November = National Women's Month
December = National Wrestlers Month

Your task, should you accept the challenge, is to:
Design a product (or service) to be featured on woot to cater to one of the special interest groups mentioned above.

Your final product must be shown in the woot webpage format. Dummy text may be used for the product description. You may alter the colors of woot’s webpage to help enhance your marketing effort.

Post your entry here by 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, November 8th, 2006. There are no cash prizes in Dodgeball. The winner will be selected by a group of woot peers. The winner will receive the much coveted Wonderstew Trophy of Excellence and will be given the honor of choosing a new topic for Dodgeball Contest #2. Use Photoshop, play-doh, decoupage, GIMP, MSPaint, welding equipment, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in the forum as a jpg, gif, or png. Try to keep your maximum width to 550px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. And if you want to impress us, post links to your source images.

Woot Forum Aficionados: If you'd like to choose a winner, email your selection to wootdodgeball@hotmail.com by noon EST on Thursday.

I can't believe "wootdodgeball" was still available at hotmail! Amazing. You were sure lucky to lock that in.

Any challengers?

this looks like it could be some fun. but i'm going to sit out this week.

question: are there two different contenders each week, or is the winner expected to defend his/her title?

I'd say two different competitors each week. Let the n00bs have a shot at out-chopping each other rather than get slaughtered by 'stew whenever he would decide to join in this contest and house it.

i agree. and actually... after thinking about it... if the winner got to decide the theme of the next contest, they could just choose whatever they would be good at.

so i think that the winner shouldn't be able to compete back to back

Maybe somebody else the first week?

and I don't really understand what I would be supposed to do if I were doing it- make one chop to fit the theme? I'm not sure I can make only one chop- or anything less than about five.

Not this week - on a trip to California in the morning. Work calls and I can't promise Internet access until next Sun.
I'm just hoping someone steps up to the plate. I don't want this absolutely awesome idea to die before it gets started. I am willing to be a sacrificial lamb in a future week if someone can step up and challenge Joe (or ?). C'mon fellow choppers - the challenge awaits.
And - in answer to Joe - I think KT's original concept "two of you go head to head until the next photoshop contest " should be an option - no need to limit to one chop. It should be your choice - one or many and let the voters decide.

Fine. Not what you had in mind KT, but whatever.

This sounds fun. Woot Duels. I like the idea of two competitors with two days to come up with one shot each. If you only have one entry, you're gonna make sure it's the best entry you can come up with instead of the old 20 entries and see what sticks approach (save that for the weekend). So in sumation, my vote is 1 entry each. Winner picks the next contest theme. Are the gladiators chosen for the first melee?

Hey, that sounds like a good idea! 20 instead of my usual 12 ... THANKS tgentry! I'll try that.

Only if anybody considers that thing above to be an actual entry. I suppose Coach could slip and break his tablet, then I might win by default. Hey! I've got a better chance here than on the contest thread! Oh happy day!

Well, that's one way fto do multiple chops while still staying within the guidelines.

The way this is going, KT could make this a tournament...

This is turning out to be a lot less interesting to me than I thought it was going to be. Since only a single picture from each of only two contestants is to be judged, this contest could conceivably end up with only two pictures posted each week, possibly not until mid-Thursday. Not terribly exciting in the meantime for those of us in the peanut gallery, nor, I suspect, for choppers not actively involved in the challenge. Boo hoo!

Maybe the contest could be opened up to multiple entries, and/or for everyone at large...?

gimme my damn monkey

I think multiple entries would be okay. I just didn't want to put any stress on anyone because I know people work...

So, multiple entries okay...can choose other topics to chop in list as well...how's that?

You missed the Wine Woot: Chateau Nuit San Wagga Wagga. (And no, I don't expect you to know where that's from, but Qwerty and Lynn would)

I hereby disqualify myself however, as I did not design the product featured on the page, as ordered in the instructions, but merely took an existing item and Woot-ified it. (Adding the requisite reflection...)

So, if someone wants to tag me and jump into the ring, I'd be happy to sit at ringside taunting the opponent and handing folding chairs to the combatants.

I have an idea that's kinda based on that old parlor game where you start with a letter, add another one, then another one ...

What if KT or some other very qualified person posted a simple picture ... anything. Then, whoever wants to adds ONE feature and posts it. Then another adds ONE other feature to that one, and so on. The picture would get more and more funny (hopefully) as it goes along. People could add to their own pic, or whatever. If two or more people added something to the same original, then you could take any of those and add one more feature ... the forum users would decide which ones they liked best and improve on those. Stupid entries would just die a quiet death. Then when the new contest started Friday, the "add a feature" contest would end.

We've already done this a couple of times, adding a reflection, or something to someone else's stuff.

This could be fun. Anyone could participate. And it would be pretty funny seeing what people add along the way.

Example:

1. KT posts a picture of a puppy.
2. Someone copies it to their comp, adds a hat, and posts the new pic.
3. Somebody takes #2 and adds a dog catcher.
4. Somebody takes #3 and adds a rap star singing in the background.
5. Somebody adds lyrics to #4.
etc. ect.
104. It's midnight Thursday, thread ends.

Go gators! Go Hokies!

Maybe if they want to do more than one entry, their entries must be from a separate category, not two or more from one category.

Or here's a completely different suggestion for a contest:
Every week come up with a different punch line and have the contestants come up with an image to match it.

If I can get someone to soil themselves I will able to sleep tonight.
