Icky stuff on desktop keyboard-throw away and get another one. They're cheap.
Icky stuff on laptop keyboard=>trouble...new keyboard=price of new computer.

I think it would do well with hardwood.

I found that the house was so loud with the wood floors.
You have 3 kids and two dogs, it isn't too loud?
You have a really old house.....the floors must be nice.
The house I grew up in was built in the 20's. Working class houses, but beautiful wood floors, with borders around the edge of the room.
