This is getting really old, but I'll say it again: sorry about the delay, wooters! On top of everything else going on lately, this week I was summoned for jury doody (misspelling intentional! Take that, judicial branch!). It took them three days to notice my tinfoil helmet and my JFK IS STILL ALIVE t-shirt and dismiss me. Now I'm finally at liberty to announce the winners of our challenge to Design an award for the Worst Woot of 2006, and by jingo, announce them I shall:

First Prize - $100
Josephus - Wooden Worst Woot Wand

Whoa! Way wicked! Watch the video, too!

Second Prize - $50
wonderstew - The Golden Dustbuster of Shame

Another actual trophy - and another video. No, this is not a magic formula for winning future contests. And no, we've never sold a Dustbuster, but we appreciate its esteemed position as the spiritual grandpappy of all semi-useful household gadgetry.

Third Prize - $20
JoeDeeDee - All I Got Were These Stupid Mediocre Binoculars

Woot t-shirts? Who'd want anything like that?

Honorable Mention

SailorSpoon - Figure 40 Leg-Lock
He's got legs, and he knows how to ruin them.

tgentry - I Don't Feel Tardy
Hey, I may be chronically late, but I do know how to spell "tomorrow."

buckie74 - Gilt Trip
Thanks for keeping it just this side of tasteful.

Champions' Championship Champion
shan24 - You May Already Be A Winner

Pay no attention to that 9-digit zip code.

And finally, a Monkey Prize that raises an interesting philosophical quandary: what does it mean to do the worst job of saluting the Worst Woot? Isn't a horrendous contest entry actually more appropriate than the well-made trophies above, and hence more worthy of approval? With the help of K-Fed, a can of Sterno, and a whole lot of jaggies, cwalker710 answers with a resounding "no".

If you created a money-winning entry, please email your Paypal info to jtoon@woot.com. Monkey Prize winner, send your mailing address to the same. Honorable Mentioneers may use coupon code HONMEN-FS for free shipping on a future order. Until next time, remember: we're only as bad as our Worst Woot. So in other words, we're extremely bad.

Good thing that was Toon that misspelled 'tomorrow' in my chop and not me, ‘cause that might have been really embarrassing....

Speaking of which, they missed some code and it doesn't show your picture.

It says ...

It should say ...

Woo hoo!
Thanks woot, it was worth the wait, at least for me!
I have to say, I nearly abandoned hope of winning when I saw Wonderstew's Dustbuster of shame- It has it all, for a Worst Woot trophy- Gold spraypaint, It actually sucks, and its made of particleboard (horrors for me). Nice job, Wonderstew. JoeDeeDee, that T-shirt is also a great item- if we ever open that T-shirt shop, it certainly belongs.

and Sailorspoon, I picked yours to take second- behind WS's. Being a 'major award' and all, it should get a major award. Tgentry, I have no idea what yours was, but its great too! Toonmorrow never knows. Buckie, I'd be afraid of what that Orang might do if his hand were that close to my, er, worst side. shan, of course, I got one of those, but I threw it away- I bet most of us did. heh.
Walker, you have the prize I want still- your monkey prize is on the money- for a monkey, that is.

Awesome job, all! Congratulations to everyone,... Josephus and Wonderstew, your handmade efforts raised the bar, with Joe Dee Dee's T-shirt and SailorSpoon's forty photographs not far behind in the effort department. TGentry, I loved your two-part entry and Buckie74 and Shan24's efforts were among my favorites too. On to the next!

Thanks woot. $50 richer and no complaints.

Good job all around. I was going to mail the trophy to Woot but my office adopted it instead. We pass it around to whoever sucks the most.

Shaving.

Exactly why it's the perfect award for Worst Woot 2006. You even throw the AWARD away!

Anyway thanks for the CCC, it's my first one! Congrats to all the winners. One of these days maybe I'll break into the money-winner crowd again! Now where is this going to go in my sig.....

When did this go from a Photoshop contest, to a really build it contest?

I'm highly dissappointed in the first two.. they aren't photoshoped...

I quote toon: "Use Photoshop, pen and ink, collage, MSPaint, scrimshaw carving, tattoos, ice sculpture, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png."
-Never mentions video

I quote Toon again "If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. We have no connection to either, but they seem free and easy to use. And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images."
-Never mentions video again...

So in otherwords, i'm not bitter i lost... look at my entry.. it sucked, it took me 2 minutes.. I just don't want to see 100 people doing videos next week becuase thats what they think it will take to win..

So congratulation 3rd through Monkey... you guys deserved it!

you quoted Toon correctly, but this is NOT a purely photoshop contest. and Joe and Stew both DID submit a jpg that is visible in the forums. they just went beyond the call of duty. they deserve the wins

Perhaps a 3D model, touched up in Photoshop might improve chances? Maybe adding a lens flare or reflection would help...

I don't think "minimal effort" is a fair description. I'm willing to bet that both Joe and Stew spent more time on those projects than I did on all of my silly joke entries combined. Anyways, the next contest is tomorrow, so don't forget to paint your dustbuster gold and film it.

For the New England crowd, it's supposed to be ridiculously cold this weekend, wind chills in the negative teens ... it might be a good time to break out the ice sculpture tools.

I've been a Woot Member since almost the beginning, and I have seen my fair share of crappy Contest Winnings but none would compare to these.
I am totally pissed.....

I guess for now on I'm going to hand make my Woot Contest Ideas and video tape them up onto YouTube so you can see in action. As if the Gif animation wasn't annoying enough. It's on Wooters!!! Watch Out tomorrow!!!

I declare a Youtube Woot Contest War!!!!

If you actually photo chopped a dust buster on a piece of wood.....It would suck and would not win!! Or a photo chopped wooden shower head would even look like butthole too!!
Just wait for tomorrow's contest.

if i photoshoped a piece of wood in the shape of something... or a gold dustbuster.. i wouldn't have won..

They were judged on the video, which distictly says in the rules "it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png"

I'm sorry.. those pictures didn't win it...

So like i said i'm a little disappointed.. i have nothing again stew or jo, i think they have done good work in the past.. i think this win was just undeserved thats all

Actually, it would've been minimal effort. It was a pretty simple job. Glue some wood together, drill some holes, bend some metal, bolt on some stuff.

The spray painting on the other hand was a challenge. Oh, don't get me wrong, I've done my fair share, but the unrelenting ginsu winds made it a bit challenging. I had to find the one windless spot outside the house and the newspaper was still flappin' around like a banshee. That makes for a serious pain in the buttocks.

EDIT: There's a lot of hate brewing in here... oh and I did photoshop a dustbuster onto some wood... it's back on page one of the contest.

you're right, it did suck...

Shaving.

OMG! Woo hoo! That was unexpected! Thanks Woot! And thanks also to those who complimented my t-shirtly efforts. I still think it was a bit off-topic...who gives a t-shirt as an award?? Guess the "judges" were feeling crafty too.

I suppose I should use the $20 to pay my "model". She may sue if I don't. So I guess it's all gonna get spent on lollipops and those cheapo swirly balls they sell at the grocery store ;-)

I wonder if the older kids are gonna be mad that they refused to wear the shirt.

Wonder if maybe Toon is feeling domestic lately. Two of the three winners contained cute little kids. And the other one had a vacuum cleaner.

Common you naysayers, are you all that surprised that the big three placed once again somewhere on the board? Yes, I agree that this isn't a Photoshop contest, but what I, as well as those who spoke up earlier, are saying is we are under the impression that this is a photo manipulation contest. At least Tgentry's was a valid entry. JoeDeeDee's was so good that I wouldn't be surprised if she had that t-shirt printed up, considering the other two winners, now that was a nice entry. buckie74's was just a rehash of an entry he did back in contest 102. SailorSpoon's I can tell took a lot of time and shan24 was very clever. (You see I'm not coming down on everyone that won).

I'm glad some people have the fortitude to write what they're thinking and not just applaud the winners like a bunch of lemmings hoping that those same winners will vote for them in thew CCC category. (you know who you are)

Consider this a entry to my "How are the winners chosen" contest.

I'm just saying "Time to add a few more name to the wheel judges" There were plenty of entries more deserving of the list this week. I'm afraid we'll lose some good entrants if you don't take the blinders off.
