Music Monday: Blue-Eyed Soul

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Most of you probably know how much Scott loves some serious soul music. But Scott also has a soft spot for blue-eyed soul as well! Today’s mix is full of all those white guys who wanna prove they’ve got heart too.

ABC - Be Near Me

ABC was one of the first bands I can remember liking. They’re no Larry Saunders or anything, but c’mon. C’MON. That icy cold sound is like the soul music robots listen to. It’s just plain lovely! IT IS!

More happening inside. See you after the jump!

Cliff Richard - Heartbeat

As of this writing, this pretty cool song is STILL family friendly! Cliff Richard was always traditionally the “nice guy” of rock ’n roll, so it’ll be a shock if he turns out to be, well, a creep-o. But innocent until proven guilty, you know? Let’s hope everything turns out for the best.

Hall & Oates - Wait For Me

They might not have been much loved by the punk rock types, but Hall & Oates is getting rediscovered by a new generation. If trends continue, they’ll be part of the music canon for good. Well done, fellas! You waited ‘em out.

Go West - What You Won’t Do For Love

Of course, Go West kinda went in the exact opposite direction, and they’re not really known to the kids of today. But they do a nice job with this cover of a Bobby Caldwell song. That’s one of the reasons I used their version instead of the original. They need the love!

Robert Palmer - Every Kinda People

Well, you either like it or you don’t, you know? At least it’s catchy.

Throw your favorite white guy soul up in the comments freely. And let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week.
