Music Monday: Songs About Yesterday

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Today Scott's focusing on yesterday. KBOOM THERE GOES YOUR MIND no, seriously, the theme of this week's Music Monday is songs about yesterday. Make sense? Excellent! Let's go.

The Carpenters - Yesterday Once More

Nostalgia isn't something that only '90s kids will understand. The Boomers pretty much INVENTED pointless nostalgia. This song about what it was like to listen to old songs is lovely, and sweet, and a Carpenters classic. Shoobee doo bang bang.

Tomorrow you'll look back on this post ever so fondly. But only if you meet us after the jump. See you inside!

Foreigner - That Was Yesterday

Yesterdays have this bad habit of capturing our hearts. If we're not careful, we'll get stuck there. At some point we have to just wave it off and move on.

Smithereens - Yesterday Girl

Yesterday is also a weird place, because we'll never truly see it. When it's today we don't always think about the repercussions and once it's no longer today, we're powerless against it.

Madness - Yesterday's Men

Either we adapt to the now or we get tied up with the stories of the past. Or, as a greater man once said, those who don't remember the past are condemned to repeat it. And force everyone else to repeat it with them.

Boyz II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday

Yesterday is when we had it best, after all. We don't have to see it truthfully. We can see the parts we want to see. That's why it's so hard to let it go. But take heart. There's lots of cool stuff ahead in the future.
