Music Monday: Who's

by Scott Lydon

Happy Music Monday! Many great songs and bands are connected to who. That's what we're asking, what great songs and bands are connected to who. No, it's what we're answering, many great songs and bands are connected to- oh, you've caught on, have you? Well, then, let's get started.

Roberta Tovey - Who's Who

This catchy, chummy, ever so British song is all about a very popular who... Peter Cushing! This young lady played the Doctor's companion in a series of movies that, well, had almost nothing to do with the TV show. And now, they movies are forgotten. Remember that when they start recasting The Flash, okay?

Who wants to come see more Who songs? YOU DO! So let's do that very thing, shall we?

Who's Dr Who? - Frazer Hines

This trippy psychedelic song would be right at home in today's clubs, even though it doesn't get a lot of airplay. But you might be surprised to know that the singer is a man who spent a lot of time traveling in the TARDIS. That's right! This song's about the TV Doctor Who! And this guy hung out with the Second AND the Sixth Doctor. And, God willing, he'll meet the Twelveth at some point too.

The Go-Gos - I'm Gonna Spend My Christmas With A Dalek

FINE I won't even pretend any more. Today's Music Monday isn't about who songs (that'll be next week) but actually DOCTOR WHO SONGS! Also before you click, please note that this band of Go-Gos weren't the same Go-Gos who'd show up later... OR WERE THEY? It is possible that there was some sort of time travel involved... nah, it's probably just a coincidence.

Doctor In Distress

You know the Veronica Mars campaign and the Firefly campaign? They were both mostly successful! Well, before that happened, there was this. This song, recorded to get Colin Baker his job back, was not actually orchestrated by Colin Baker! That's right, OTHER PEOPLE ASKED HIM TO DO THIS. It would be nice to say that you're looking at the reason the show still exists today, but... no.

The Timelords - Doctorin' The TARDIS

That's Ford Timelord. He's a car. He's also an indirect member of the KLF, who had a hit with this complex mashup of ideas before mashups were even a thing. Mixing a popular TV show, two hit singles, and some friends from down at the pub yelling in exchange for free drinks, the band created something amazing. And then they wrote a book about it. And then they came to America. Which, really, is the story of Doctor Who.

Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next week, for the non-Doctor Who-related who post. Seriously, save a few Who songs for next week too.
