Winners' Gallery: the Best of Contest 231

by shan24 & Josephus

While we weren't paying enough attention to Jason's wandering mind, he proposed the following contest: Show us a former Woot product's Facebook page (or a detail from their home page, or some other page from their account). We immediately asked ourselves: why a former Woot product? Why not a Woot product in the current rotation? How do you know if it's a former Woot product? Does it go by the acronym TPFKAAWP? And then we thought maybe we were overthinking the issue. What do you think?

First Place - $100
TomW - Bacon Salt

Well now what do we do, TomW didn't even make a Facebook page, he made a Spicerack page.

Woot Contest 237: Deflating The Conspiracy

by Jason Toon

As today's Woot writeup and every single news outlet on the continent has indicated, there's something flying-fishy about that whole balloon boy panic from last week. While we've asked the hard questions, answers aren't really our department. That's where we're hoping you guys come in. And we're also hoping that Woot has something to do with the hoax/swindle/whatever, because we could use the publicity.

Show us the role that a Woot product, past or present, played in the Great Colorado Weather-Balloon Scare of Aught-Nine.

Post your entry here by 11:59 AM (central) on Monday, October 26, 2009. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. The rules and criteria for winning: our panel of volunteer judges can and will make stuff up as it goes along. Use Photoshop, linoleum blocks, pastels, MSPaint, cave painting, tattoos, tribal scarification, whatever, but it’ll only be judged if it’s visible in our forums as a jpg, gif, or png. As we are fond of saying, try to keep your maximum width to 550px. If you need a place to host your pictures, try www.imageshack.ws or www.photobucket.com. We have no connection to either, but they seem free and easy to use. And if you want us to be sure your entry was indeed your work, post links to your source images. The more sure we are that you did your own work, the more likely we are to consider it for a prize.

Woot Contest 236: David's Banner

by Jason Toon

You know you're a big player at a major trade show - or at least you have a lot of money to waste - when the hall itself is bedecked in your gigantic, obnoxious banners. We're nowhere near this rarefied stratum yet, but we can dream. And we hope you can, too, because we don't have any idea what we would do with one of those spaces anyway. Take a look at these examples of on-site advertising for the Consumer Electronics Show (scroll down a little for pics) and...

Show us your idea for a giant Woot convention banner.

Post your entry here by 11:59 AM (central) on Monday, October 19, 2009. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. Thanks, Amy, for the theme suggestion!

Winners' Gallery: the Best of Contest 230

by shan24 & Josephus

At some point in the probably not-so-recent past, we asked you to show us how you could use past or current Woots as part of your superhero, sci-fi, or video-game costume. Since we viewed all these entries, does that mean we've seen everything there is to see at one of these conventions? We hope not, because we have the feeling that the people-watching is the best part.

First Place - $100
snackbot - Samus of Woot

We wonder what Baby Samus looks like?

Woot Contest 235: Wooteurs

by Jason Toon

The public clamors for it. The big studios will pay anything for it. The awards are already engraved. But there's one thing keeping the Woot biopic off of your silver screens: choosing a director with the vision and genius worthy of our story. Since we're having trouble getting Woody Allen, Ingmar Bergman, and John Ford to return our calls - especially the dead ones - we need your help:

Show us a scene from a Woot motion picture in the style of a famous director.

Post your entry here by 11:59 AM (central) on Monday, September 21, 2009. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. Woot Contest 234: Two Shirts Beat As One

by Jason Toon

By now, you've probably heard about our Shirt.Woot Classics series, reviving a once-dead Shirt.Woot favorite every week. If you haven't, check out our blog post about Classic shirts as soon as you get over your crushing shame. We use the term Redux to describe the shirts that are issued as they were originally sold, and Remix for those that we've tweaked in some way. But your challenge this week is something we haven't done on Shirt.Woot yet:

Mix two Shirt.Woot shirts together into one new design.

Your source material can be found in our Shirt.Woot forums. And, we hope, in your closet.

Post your entry here by 11:59 AM (central) on Monday, September 7, 2009. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. Woot Contest 233: What Would Don Do?

by Jason Toon

The new season of a certain cable-TV drama set in an ad agency in the early '60s is underway. And aside from making us crave Pall Malls and gimlets, it's making us wonder what the likes of Sterling Cooper would've done with some of the junk we sell. The dynamic illustrations, the cool layouts, the verbal wit, the casual sexism - your challenge this week:

Show us an ad for a past or current Woot product, as created by the ad men on Mad Men.

You can create your own entirely new ad or alter an existing one, but you will get points for starting from scratch.

Post your entry here by 11:59 AM (central) on Monday, August 31, 2009. Prizes are $20/$50/$100 for 3rd/2nd/1st. Winners' Gallery: the Best of Contest 229

by shan24 & Josephus

Almost 2 years ago, when we started judging this photoshop contest, we asked Jason to ask you to show us an action shot of the Woot All-Star Game, featuring great Woots of the past and present competing against each other. He finally managed to get that far down his list of clever themes, and has started on the ones we've submitted! Look out people, it's about to get crazy up in herrre! Anyway, about a year ago you posted your responses to the theme, and here are the winners:

First Place - $100
toby8915 - Woot-i-oh!

This spell card burns every card with a heart in your deck. I play the Hunk a hunk a burnin' love card!
