Great big flatscreen television sets are great, but have you ever
tried to take one to the game with you to watch replays? Ever try to
shove one in your pants pocket for the long bus ride? At best, it ruins
the line of your slacks. So here it is: the teeniest-weeniest teevee
we’ve seen.
Live out your childhood Dick Tracy fantasies!
Take that, Pruneface! Now you’re Pruneface; take that, Dick Tracy! Now
you’re Prune Tracy…
Well, anyway.
This dinky
wristwatch television boasts a tiny little tuner that was specially
designed by Sony and Thin Film Transistor technology for a crisp
280×220 color digital picture on its one-and-a-half-inch screen. It
gets both VHF and UHF (the
frequency range, not the fantastic “Weird Al” feature film, we’re sorry
to say), and the headphones act as an antenna for improved reception.
The digital display shows time and date, making this not just your
smallest television, but your most gigantic wristwatch, too.
It’ll
gamely serve up just one measly hour of viewing on a full charge, but
you can triple that by plugging it into its docking station, powered by
four AA batteries—not included, natch. The docking station can also
plug into AC for unlimited viewing (and to recharge the TV.)
The
watch strap comes off, and a neck strap is included. So obviously, you
could always just drop it in your bag or pocket. You don’t have to
strap it to your wrist. And, in fact, we would recommend you didn’t.
This thing doesn’t make a fashion statement so much as it engages in
fashion hate speech. Wear it with those MP3 player sunglasses; we triple dog dare you.
This
weird little whatsit has actually garnered some pretty good reviews for
usability, which some of our forum denizens will undoubtably sniff out.
Even engadget liked it; go look!
As a bonus, it makes a
hilarious comic prop to have on hand the next time your kid whines “I
wanna watch TV!” Oh, man, that will be awesome. We wish we could be
flies on your wall for that moment. And not just because your poor
housekeeping would provide us with such ample sustenance.
