I got mine lat night and when I tried them I could not get the base to charge or turn on, the headset appeared to function correctly. I don't have anything with Buetooth to play with so I am dependent on the base.

Anyway, about five minutes after I sent an e-mail to Philips customer service today, I couldn't help but tinker with it. Long story short, I was able to make it work by holding down the play button (remeber this is on the base) and plug in the charger while I was holding the button. The LED did a weird flash between colors. I did it a few times and fiddled with the two buttons and trying different combinations while plugging in the power - eventually I got it to turn on. After it turned on that first time it seems to charge and operate as expected.

I was a bit disappointed at first, but they seem to be working properly now that I 'fooled' it to turn on. I am quite happy with them.

It seems mine did not charge correctly overnight.

I did not get the 3.5mm female plug soldered on because, lacking a way to test the device, we couldn't figure out which wires were which.

also, for those of you who have already soldered on a 3.5mm plug, can you give me a push in the right direction as to which color wires go to which? i cut off one of the earpieces to find that there are 4 wires inside (blue, ground, red, and green). judging from the donor female 3.5mm (using the one that came with the device), the red and green are left/right channels. what is the blue used for?

You right with red/green and blue is for MIC in.

I got one and it works fine. BUT...the sending unit battery dies after one hour of listening to music.

I got mine yesterday, Nov 11.

Charged it up, paired the headset with my T-Mobile BlackBerry Curve smartphone [that has stereo bluetooth].

Listened to MP3 music, made two calls.

The music sounded great, the music playing controls on the Philips worked to control the MP3 files on my Curve. [Volume, next song, previous song].

The callers said the headset sounded very clear.

After using the headset for about four hours [listening to music, talking on the phone for about 1 hour and on standby] I turned the unit off.

I did not try the little transmitter as I wanted this mostly for my Curve when on my road bike. But I do plan on hooking the transmitter to the TV to see if I can use this as cordless earphones for the TV.

Bonus tip: read the directions carefully, especially on how to pair [or connect] this device with whatever else you have. Main thing is that you have to get the receiver into "pairing mode" as signified by the flashing red and green light.

I paired the transmitter with my Sony flat panel TV that has an earphone port. Works perfect. Nice that the Philips came with a 3.5 mm cable extension because the transmitter would not have fit into the Sony TV's 3.5 mm audio port.

This is GREAT for using the Philips earphones without a cable running to the TV.

Has anyone with a unit that is not charging gotten satisfaction from Philips or Woot?

I called Philips today and they said return it to woot.

E-mail Woot. I thought they have some sort of return policy.

Also, make sure to charge both units [transmitter and receiver] for at least six hours.

Do you get the red charging light on both devices? Seems odd if both will not charge since they are independent batteries. If you do not get a charging light on either device, that tells me it's the charger, not the devices.

Have you tried a different electrical outlet? If still no lights, make sure the prongs on the plug are making contact with the electrical socket.

Also try "resetting" the devices. Press the stop and play buttons at the same time and hold for about 10 seconds. Then connect to the charger.

Also, try each device [transmitter and receiver in each adapter plug. There are two, to charge the earphones/receiver and the transmitter]. Swap them to see if it is a plug on the adapter that is the problem.

Hope that helps.

Is anyone else having issues with that? I'm using a LG enV and it will not let both connect. Also I seem to have an issue with the headphones remembering that they are paired with something after a power down. I don't know if this is just anohter symptom of the same issue or not.

Have a similar problem. Paired with a T-610 and works ok for a bit. After about 30 minutes it stops blinking green and calls don't pair up. This is even though it has a full charge.

The solution is to replug it into the charger for a couple seconds, it reactivates it and its fine until it happens again.

While listening to music it will go continuously for hours and hours unless a call interrupts it in which case it does what happened above.

I think we got the lemon units. Still workable as a music listening unit. Not reliable for my phone though. I can't carry the charger ALL the time.

Sorry to hear about the troubles with your product. As Philips won't help, you'll want to contact rma@woot.com with your order number and a detailed description of the problem. You may also wish to point out that you've already tried Philips with no success. Please note that way not have any more in stock, so a refund may be the only option.

Did you know shirt.woot ships internationally? Get you some!

After two days of trying to make mine work, and two calls to Philips, I'm about to call it quits.

There's no problem with the transmitter.
The receiver, however, from the start was alternating green and red on the initial charging. After getting charged, it seemed to be "On", and no amount of holding the "o" button would turn it off.

After putting the transmitter into pairing mode while connected to iPod, it paired with the receiver automatically and played, and the receiver even turned off ... and turned itself back on without me pressing any buttons less than two minutes after.
I turned it off again (had to have the transmitter on, and playing music for the receiver to turn off ???!!!), put it into pairing mode and paired with my cell phone (Blackberry). After making one call with it, all hell broke loose:

  • The unit is on continuously
  • Every button press (actually button release, it doesn't react on the press), no matter which of the six buttons, results in the attempt to re-dial the last number
  • Even after I disabled bluetooth on the phone, headset still stops the music, beeps like it's dialing, either every couple of minutes, or after every button release
  • After I enabled bluetooth on the phone, but deleted VOX340 from list of devices, every couple of minutes or every button release results in headset attempting to pair with the phone, and password prompt popping up on the phone screen

Philips support didn't have any ideas, and suggested to return to woot. I'll probably try draining the power to see if that will reset it somehow, but after that I'm done.
This has already wasted more than $18 worth of my time.

Mixed feelings about this woot.

Seems to pair just fine with my Samsung BlackJack. Music sounds passable (for the price) using the transmitter and an iPod, but the range on the thing is atrocious.

If there's more than a couple feet between the sender and receiver, or if there's anything occupying the space between them (such as my body ... and, no, I'm not obese or filled with titanium skeletal bracing) it looses connection almost immediately. So much for the 30' range on a BlueTooth device. FYI, the Logitech version I bought a year ago (sending unit and wrap-around headset) works really well. I get the full 30' of range out of that system.

Since I bought two of them I think I'll go ahead and give the second one a try.

Open to any suggestions anyone may have on ways to improve reception. Though the units were fully charged (8+ hours) I may try to run down the charge, re-pair them, and give it another go.

Same here. I called Phillips and the guy told me to return to the origin of purchase. They are not helpful. I use Nokia 5300, and Phillips blames the phone. My logitec & Nokia mono headsets work fine, but this Phillips unit lose connectivity and becomes unresponsive whenever a music track is done. I can only listen to one music track at a time. Then I have to stick it to the charger to reset or fiddle with the unit for 3-5 miuntes to reset.

I hated this set. It pairs with my macbook, phone, and ipod via transmitter. But then within 1-30 minutes the signal goes to crud even if there is zero distance between transmitter and receiver.

bluetooth headphones = awesome.

bluetooth headphones with dropped signal 35% of the time = suck.

I got mine (x2) last week and I tested one of them. It charged up fine and it paired to each other without any problem. It also worked with my BT Sony cellpphone without any issue at all. The ear plugs do not feel too comfortable but they work okay. I used it primarily with the radio/music player at work so I don't bother other people.

OK, my curiousity got the better of me and I decided to do a headphone transplant on one of these.

Oh my god. it sounds SO much better. Once you graft some decent headphones on, this thing rocks! I used the 'phones from some Razer m250s... I've got a few pairs of them around. The nice thing about the m250s is that they're easy to open up and solder inside, instead of soldering wires, so the end result looks much, much cleaner- all the work is inside the earphones.

Just clip the stock earbuds from the BT headset right below the earbuds (leaving the whole cord), unsolder the wire from the m250s, and slide in and solder the wire from the BT headset. For some odd reason, the earphone cords have all four conductors in them (left, right, mic, and ground). you'll only need two per earphone, though.

I didn't take pictures when I did it, so there won't be a guide for this mod... but if you want to see the inside of the Razer headphones and get a good idea of how the wiring goes, you can look here.

Nothing better than a cheap, crappy product that becomes a cheap, awesome product with a little modding ;)

EDIT: Oh, and I don't have a bluetooth phone, so I haven't tested the mic... it may or may not still work :P proceed at your own risk.

ONE OF THESE DAYS, I'M GOING TO CUT YOU INTO LITTLE PIECES.

Not sure what your problem is but, my transmitter would not charge the first time but there seems to be a problem with the transmitter power socket. Perhaps extra plastic flashing blocked the socket but after I re-inserted and 'screwed' with it; it charged and is wonderful! Range is good 30+ feet only real problem is a delay of audio from HDTV audio - might be the tv.

There have been a couple of posts about people having trouble pairing with both a cellphone and the BT transmitter. Has anyone come up with a good solution to this? I'm having the same issue. Can't get the receiver to pair with both the BT transmitter and my LG cellphone simultaneously.

Has anyone tried pairing these with a PC? I have a Bluetooth 2.0 dongle that supports A2DP, but somehow I only get (mono) Headset and Bluetooth Headphones as profile options during the pairing process.
Great medium to long-range functionality as headphones, but no go as a headset. I'd troubleshoot this myself at length but I hardly have the time; suggestions would be truly appreciated.
Overall, great Woot. Headphone quality is decent- definitely not what you'd expect just looking at the ear buds.
