Anyway, we're happy to help with DOA Roku boxes- we have more in stock and are willing to take them back in for a refund. I know I've gotten a couple strongly worded unhappy emails so far today.

Mine showed up today, and doesn't have a working wireless adapter inside. Roku online customer support tried to send me back to Woot, but I insisted and they told me to email proof of purchase to fax@roku.com with a case number, and that they'd get back to me with a RMA number.

You can bet I'll be calling them tomorrow, but it's nice to know that you'll back it up if they won't. Thank you.

Wow, disappointing.

Odd horizontally split grayscale double image when using Component Inputs... and a fix.

I got a couple of these units to extend the life of a Toshiba Cinema Series TV (wonderful picture, big tube) and to supplement a 720p LCD I've got. When I hooked up the component cables to the Toshiba and powered up the Roku, I got the slash-screen properly then the picture flaked out to the point I couldn't get past the first setup screen.

The S-Video worked fine, so I thought maybe it was a problem with the device.
I tried the 2nd one... same problem.

I found that Roku.com has a chat-based support option. I also found that they only have one person manning that chat session... I spent *well* over an hour answering the same questions over and over and not getting anywhere... so after the 4th or 5th time I was "accidentally disconnected", I gave up and googled.

I found a forum reference that someone had to switch to 16:9 and back to 4:3 to fix theirs... and that worked perfectly on both of my units.

I'm happy to say that even though the power LED on one of mine is no-where near its window, they both work fine (24 hours so far) with beautiful pictures!

I've added many channels to them I found at http://streamfree.tv/apps/roku-private-channels/

Funny thing about the blocked LED... it makes the device more stealth so my toddler doesn't even notice it... WIN! :D

Got mine today - estimated arrival date was 8/4 and I received it on 8/4 so pleased with that.

Unit powered on fine, went through set up and connected to our wireless with no problems. Batteries were packaged separately from remote and worked.

I haven't set up a lot on it - we have Netflix and Pandora accounts that I activated, and I found a specialty gun channel the boyfriend will like.

The only thing I'm on the fence about is that there is no power switch - so I have to unplug the unit when I want it off. I guess I'll find out later tonight whether that reset everything or not.

Good purchase for an older, rarely used 19" HD TV.

We recieved our Roku yesterday and used it last night on an old 27" TV in our bedroom. Great product! I am too cheap to pay for cable all over the house and this allows me to break out of the programming offered by the local stations in Syracuse. My wife is happy with it and that is good enough for me!

Sorry to burst any bubbles... but mine works fine - for 3 days in a row (so far!) No exploding batteries, no failure, no fires. My 7 year old has already mastered the remote and her Netflix queue, and loves it! Considering buying another for the bedroom

Arrived and plugged in and looped at activation. Couldn't find my wireless OR wired network. I have another ROKU (bought separately) that works fine. This one should go back. Roku support was useless, they don't even know their product.

It also looks like the unit and remote was packed by someone eating a peanut butter sandwich. oh well, that's refurb for ya.

My Roku box arrived today, but unfortunately my damn router has died. The box doesn't like being connected directly to the internet, either. I can at least confirm that the box turns on, the HDMI port works, and the first two screens on the setup look really nice. To find out any more than that I'll have to have a working router. Sigh. Off to Best Buy I go...

Grrr. Finally got around to setting mine up but this darn thing keeps giving me an error message that it cannot connect either wireless or wired to either of my networks (one is business, the other is home). Reset does nothing. Now what?

Mine just started doing this last night. I hope it is not bad. I haven't tried contacting their support yet. Based on some of these comments I'm wondering what would be best to do. RMA through Woot or contact Roku.

plugged mine in the evening i got it and it set up easily.
i've been working 75-85 hours a week since i got it, so i only get a chance to try to watch tv for an hour or 2 every few days.
out of the 6 times i've tried to watch tv via roku, the roku won't respond to the remote.
i know it doesn't have a power on/off and is supposed to be on all the time, but it just sits there.
i start the tv and everything else and push buttons on the roku remote, hold buttons, unplug the roku and plug it back in....no indicator light on the roku at all, like it is just dead. the remote batteries were working fine the first evening i hooked it all up.
very frustrating, especially seeing so many other people having problems with their refurb roku unit from woot.
any ideas on how to get roku to start up and respond to the remote??
sounds like roku wants us to go through woot for returns, and woot wants us to go through roku
thanks

UPDATE* - unplugged the unit and reset button on the back. Now it is online and connecting to the WiFi. Hopefully it stays this way. I'd hate to see it die in a few months since my daughter really enjoys this in her room.

i got mine last week and tried to set it up yesterday. It could not find my WIRED network (how is that possible?) but it did find my wireless network (ironic since I only bought this older model because I read that Roku had problems with wireless). I went to activate Netflix, and it failed over and over. I agree that the online chat support with Roku in India is worthless. They did have me send the receipt to fax@roku.com for an RMA. Today someone from Roku (also from India) called me in response to my email. She wanted to give me an RMA. She gave me the choice to deal with Woot for a possible refund or deal with Roku for a replacement. Oddly, she would not email me the RMA. She said she had to do it on the phone. She put me on hold twice, and kept apologizing. I got the impression she was calling someone in the US to get the RMA and was on hold herself. I ended up hanging up eventually. I was pissed she called me in the first place, since I did not give my phone number in the email, but I did reference the online chat reference #, where I did have to give my phone number. I told her I could not hold on any longer. Hopefully she will call again...

Now I have to decide whether to send it back to Roku for another box, or send it back to Woot for a refund. BTW, there is a paper in the box that gives a 30-day money back satisfaction guarantee, but Roku will not honor it; saying that only applies if you buy direct from Roku (even though that isn't what it says). I wrote to Woot tonight - I want to see if they will offer the refund or not.

Got my two Rokus and couldnt be happier. Easy peasy to hook up, worked perfectly, 4 year old has figured out Netflix.

I'm back here on the forums to look for links to adding more channels. I thought Netflix would keep me entertained for a while, but, yeah...

Anyway, thanks woot. I'm happy.

I'm happy, too. Once I got my new router it hooked up easily. In fact, I had more trouble getting my Xbox to talk to the router than the Roku. I've done quite a bit of watching over the last week and it's only crashed twice so far. Now I can watch my Netflix On Demand without paying for an extra subscription on the Xbox. Thanks, Woot!

suburbandriver wrote:Got mine today. It booted, downloaded a software update, rebooted, had me go through the registration and activation process, rebooted, had me go through the activation process again, rebooted and then never came back to life.

The Roku forums talk about a factory reset by holding down the reset button for 30-40 seconds. This did nothing. HDMI, component and composite video out are all blank (composite actually flashes some white squares on the screen).

Roku support had me walk through some troubleshooting steps and then asked me to call Woot to get a replacement. Bummer.

Anyone else having any problems?

Update: Woot! quickly shipped a replacement and it works great now. I am quite pleased with this as a replacement for my Apple TV.

Loving the new Roku. I'm self-employed and travel a lot. I love having all the options while I'm working from my home office, and I'm looking forward to taking it on the road with me as well.

Just hooked it up on a wonderful rainy day. Hardest part was finding the HDMI button on the Vizio (from Woot). I really didn't think it would work well until I added some more bandwidth. Hubby is watching a movie and we are both surfing the Interwebs. No lag or delay.

We already have a Samsung blu-ray player that has Netflix, so I left this in the box for a while, but I just now hooked it up to the big old tube tv we put out to pasture in the basement. Had it up and running in about 5 minutes using only what was in the box. Netflix streaming looks great, and although the Roku site doesn't have MLB.tv as an option, there's apparently a way for MLB.tv subscribers to activate their subscription to work with a Roku device. Looking forward to getting that going for the hubby.

Wish I'd gotten three!!! Great price.

I got mine a long time ago but did not get around to setting it up until tonight. I'm surprised to see so many complaints here. I had absolutely no problems gettting started with the Roku, and it's working fine.

It's a piece of Monster A-Go Go (1965). About 2 times per day it automatically resets itself (shuts off and back on) and takes about 5-10 minutes each time. Makes me real mad when I'm in the middle of a movie.

I should have just bought Roku 2 w/ Angry Birds. Ugh.

After how long? Did you set it up as soon as you got it?
