This thing is LOUD - it even sounded loud in the sounds-like-a-cafeteria Bed Bath & Beyond where I saw it.

For $150 you should consider a whisper-quiet air mover like a Vornado instead. Even their shop fan is cheaper (and moves way more air)!

Though I wouldn't have said that about your office-mate, pregnant ladies are dangerous. If she finds out you apologized for her actions, she might attack! Quick, play dead and curl up into a ball while shouting as loud as you can and making yourself appear larger... I think one of those things works with grizzly bears.

We are sorry some of you didn't get the Bundle of Crops really. Some of us have been here for years, but still haven't gotten one. Thanks for the suggestions on how to deal with her.

I'll let you know how it turns out.

Turbulence is bad for wind tunnels. There are many ways to remove the buffeting. The simple way, is to make your wind tunnel long, relative to the size of the fan. This is not an option for the constrained space available at a science fair.

The usual science fair technique for paper airplane scale wind tunnels, is to buy ten thousand straws at a warehouse store. Then you blow the air through the straws. The turbulence is insignificant after going through 7 inches of straws.

This works, except the local warehouse store only sells individually wrapped straws. They are still cheap, but it takes a long time to remove all of those wrappers.

I haven't done the wind tunnel thing. I did coach a fifth grade Science Olympiad straw tower team.

Each time you pull the wrapper off of a straw, it builds up a little static charge. Throw the straw into a plastic bucket, and the bucket of straws gets a little more charged up. Repeat a few hundred times relatively quickly, and fresh straws will bounce back out of the bucket.

The fifth graders who were helping unwrap the straws had a lot of fun with that.

If these fans really produce a nice laminar flow without all those straws, it would deprive the fifth grade science fair student of the static electricity learning experience.

This is coooool - the video was awesome! Now about going a little further and making larger units for highway upgrades for tube travel...no more gasoline powered vehicles and their carbon exhausts or accidents or salt on the road or bad road conditions or speed limits or tickets - I am liking this train of thought - and no more trains...crazy am I? My great-grandfather would have thought you crazy describing the interstate road system and he never knew what MPH meant - horse-and-buggy days.

Yet, this is the only WOOT-OFF that I stayed up for the whole time- no sleep.
502 502 502 502, over and over again. The worst part was when I clicked "everything OK for my order (for Bundle of Carrots). Clicked the gold button- gave me a conformation page, and when I checked my purchase order account, it wasn't there. The old bait & switch.
A mistake here and there we understand; but this WOOT-OFF was one disaster after another.
What a total failure, WOOT. You've SOLD OUT.

Seriously? They have a bad day (maybe even two) and they've "sold out"? That doesn't even make sense. Sold out to who? Amazon? They've had several successful woot offs since that all went down, so you can't possibly mean that. What do you mean then?

Um ... little help here?

Exactly WHAT is unpleasant about the feel of air hitting your skin? Isn't that kinda the point of a fan in the first place?

Nothing. This is an entirely made-up problem with a pointless, expensive "solution." Anyone who claims they needed one of these because they couldn't take one more minute of buffeting is a liar trying to justify blowing money out the window in a slow, noisy fashion.

It's a curiosity item. There's no reason to include a remote and reduce profits, something only required for an item being sold for function and not intrigue. I'm not saying it's right; but they know darn well that few interested are going lose interest over the remote.

I WILL buy one at $49.99. Not because it'll then be a deal, but just because these are really cool, despite being really weak. For $49.99, you can get a Vornado that will blow like 5 times more air than these things, which makes it seem that even at $49.99, this is a poor value, but it does look cool, so it'll be worth the "splurge". (not at $149+, though, because that's just plain dumb)
