I guess i will ask again about the warranty issue:

At the listed price, USD 319.99 the item does not come with ANY warranty, right? Purchasing the SquareTrade option entitles the buyer to a one-year warranty? I am just confused, because the ad mentions that the item is eligible for a one-year extended warranty and i do not understand extended to what?

So: 319.99 + 54.99 = 1 year warranty, but only 319.99 = no warranty, yes?

Cuz if it was the first gen iPad, I don't think its a very fair comparison.

iPad2. Apple ui is excellent, but Xoom is soo much more versatile. I installed a file manger appand now my Xoom is like a small computer. Connect usb to computer and drag and drop almost eveything. iPad you have to go via iTunes (1 computer) to do everythings. That sucks.

PLEASE make some recommendations for specific accessories for the Xoom. The wife is already shopping around. The BEST recommendations come from those who are in-the-know and have used those accessories.

Many thanks ...

I just agonized over the accessories I wanted for the 3 woot just forced on me. Went to Motorola store and started filling up the cart with half-off and free mice and cases. At checkout, and seeing another $400 worth of expenses on top of the $1,000 I just dropped here, it started to dawn on me.

These are the in-betweens. They are not phones and they are not PC's, they fit the in-between niche only. And I knew that going in so why was I buying a keyboard and mouse? DELETE from cart...Why was I buying a Speaker Dock? All I wanted was an extra power supply and they both come with cases like an iPhone (no screen protection) so Delete from cart and replace with standard dock. Free shipping too. I did buy the blue cases (black ones are free) as well and will return the blacks as the blues with Motorola's permission. So of all the accessories, extra charger and a case is all you need. Get screen protectors really cheap every where. Less than $2 from Mono price

I'll throw in a 2nd vote for MoboPlayer. It plays all my DivX and XviD avi files with no issue. It's an essential app to grab if you're using a Honeycomb tablet.

Does anyone think prices will otherwise come down in the next month or so? I'm thinking a solid "maybe" because of the Asus Transformer Prime coming out, knocking down the price of the original, or even the Xoom 2 coming out, knocking this one down. Any opinions?

Dang you Woot! I have my Xoom on ebay right now with a day left on the auction and you post this! Aaargh! Talk about a bad coincidence! This was a nice device as far as functionality, but I couldn't get used to Honeycomb (having no search button, which I use constantly on my lesser android devices) and the size just wasn't for me. I backed up a step and bought one of the older galaxy tab 7's and absolutely love it! One thing cosmetically about the device that I didn't like was the back of the device's construction. It is in 2 pieces and they kind of rubbed together and creaked a bit. It wasn't a deal breaker, but a little annoying considering how much I payed for this brand new.

I would like to jump in and say I picked up a Xoom last time it was on Woot! for a few more bucks, and I'm completely happy with it. I almost bought another one just now.

I bought this when it came up last time for a Christmas present for the wife. I opened it up and set it up so it would 100% ready to go with some of her favorite apps and wi-fi already connected, etc. Updates were a dream, tablet itself is fantastic. And yes, in my opinion, this thing beats an iPad.

One issue! The cover for the SD card slot was missing. Unfortunately, this is not something where one can tool on over to the Motorola part store and buy a replacement. I had a chat support session with Motorola where I was told that a cover would be mailed to me free of charge. That was Nov 18. I haven't seen anything yet, but hopefully it shows up before Christmas. I've got one of those tablet cases for the thing anyway, so I think it will be pretty inconspicuous even if Christmas Day gets here before the cover.

Assuming I can somehow eventually acquire a SD slot cover for it, I'll be very satisfied. I'd even buy another one for myself right now if I had enough play money.

got the speaker dock over at motorola which is $64.99 + a free black case . .free shipping only a bit of tax so that was a great deal for the speaker dock.

Question about the charger for this -- is it micro USB ?

thanks

I, uh, must have been blind. I am sorry, i must have not noticed when the browser skipped only a line lower as i ctrl-f-ed for "warranty".

So the extended warranty is, in fact, one extra year on top of Motorola's original one, yes?

Thank you very much for the support!

First, I am not an Apple Fanboy, I'm typing this on a PC. But please, PLEASE get him the iPad. I do professional writing and audio recording and (with the bluetooth keyboard and a nice mic made for the iPad) can do remarkable things. It's also great for Netflix. It can also connect to a TV or monitor (with optional cables), so it can be used as a desktop unit if you are in one place for a long time and wish to use it that way. Many apps are free or very cheap and they are all vetted by Apple, so they actually work. Plus, I'll bet it is the one he really wants. The darn thing works, and works well.

The speaker dock is $49.99 @ Verizon Wireless online.

The OEM gel case is $9.99.

Free shipping.

We have an ipad2, the Xoom and the HP Touchpad. I prefer the Xoom out of the 3. The HP sat unused on our table for two months BC there was't much to do nor apps except for email and Facebook. Just sold the touchpad last week and replaced it with an Acer Iconia for my daughter from BB sale.

Interesting. I am not a member of either club so I would first have to join. I would probably have paid more and bought from Sam's if I had known because of their return policy. I wonder if ANY of my local Sam's even have it is stock. Walmart is advertising the unit for $399 on their website for in store pickup only ... but no store has it in stock.

Another reason why I dislike Walmart ...

Dear woot!,

I know you're constantly ignoring questions about this, but before I'd pull the trigger on a refurb I'd like to know the following:

* who refurbished this item, the manufacturer or a 3rd party contractor?

* What does the refurbishing process include? Have scratched up shell parts been replaced, or did someone just wiped them clean with a rag?

* Are accessories original or have they been exchanged with 'compatible' 3rd party parts if necessary?

Verizon Wireless has the HD dock for 49.99 with free two day shipping. If you have the corporate discount on your Verizon wireless account, then you get an extra $25% off. I picked up the HDSpeaker dock last night for about $40 after tax and free two day shipping.

Manufacturer

Mostly wipe. Major dents are usually replaced, but youmay see scuffs and scratches, depending on what batch you get. Some arrive looking almost new.

fishermanswife wrote:My question, for you folks that have this or any other 10" tab, is using it as an eReader. The above comment worries me. Apparently, you don't feel comfortable holding it to read. If you can hold onto it, is it fatiguing? Eye strain? Is there a Kindle app? Should I just hold off for a 7" tablet?

I have a 10" HP Touchpad tablet and a Kindle 3. I use a case stand when I use the tablet as an ereader. It's really not comfortable to hold it like a book. You can set the case stand on the arm of a chair, a desk or even a bed. Something like this would work fine http://www.amazon.com/Navitech-Genuine-Adjustable-Motorola-Honeycomb/dp/B004QO76QM/. The Xoom weighs about the same as a 700 page hardcover book. There is a kindle app for it.

The tablet is better for reading anything with illustrations, but for most reading I use the kindle. I haven't noticed any difference in eyestrain.
