It looks like the waterproof case works with the Hero and the Hero2.

http://gopro.com/camera-accessories/replacement-hd-housing/

This is the replacement case on the GoPro website and it says it is compatible with both.

someone asked for uses other than "extreme activities".

Time lapse work.

Outdoor security camera (waterproof enclosure).

Taking pictures in the pool.

Some awesome DIY GoPro Accessories:

Pole Mount - I use this all the time while scuba diving. As long as I keep the pole out of frame, it looks like a National Geographic film crew is following me just to film my underwater adventures! (I did modify the design by adding a "leash" to the other end of the pole so I can wrap it around my wrist and avoid losing my camera to Davy Jones' locker.)

Bottle Cap Mount - this was simple to make and is kind of fun to throw in the pool or to float on the surface off the back of the dive boat.

If I order one, would I get it before Christmas? I don't think woot offers expedited shipping.

--- edit: my mistake, there's logo saying arrives by Christmas

I just bought one for my niece for Christmas.
She's 4.
I figure if anything can possibly be child-proof, this stands a better than average chance.

Holy crap, this is an amazing deal! In for one considering this was one of three things on my husband's Christmas list. At this price I can get him two out of three.

Your head is the steadycam mount :-) It's actually quite good as a dampener.

Also you can postprocess any video to remove small amounts of vibration (although doing so also makes the usable field of view smaller as you are in effect panning around within the existing picture)

Does the 3d add-on come with software to invert one of the images? and most importantly of all, is there a connector between the two cameras and built-in genlock support to keep them in frame synch? I've played around with non-synched cameras before and it's less than ideal, especially when there's a lot of motion involved.

I doubt very much they designed anything like that in for someone to take advantage of later with a cheap add-on.

Score! I have been hoping for good deal on the GP1 and here it is. A guy in our sailing club has taken some great videos with his GoPro. Going to the Keys with my boat for New Years with a GoPro this year. A video from Ft Desoto, FL this past summer using a GoPro:

A crapload...I've used this in race cars and being one of the drivers and knowing how blazing hot it gets inside...and knowing my HD still works after a endurance race, I can attest to it's ability.
Youtube it....there are HUNDREDS of videos posted that will prove its worth.

Why would you use the LCD pack while using the cam? You usually have the cam in a position and can't even SEE the LCD...
And yes mine lasts 2 hours....add an extra battery pack and it doubles....
I got 5 hours with the add-on Battery Bacpac.

Dangit Woot! If I didn't know with 99% certainty that there's already a GoPro Hero HD2, under the tree at this moment, I'd snatch up two of these and buy the 3D setup. At this price, I'm even still thinking about it. Time to text all my Mountain Biking friends and make some new Woot!ers.

This is $80 off as the first gen (this one) sell for about $199. The newest generation, HD2, sells for $300.

I have been looking at this since I saw a movie production crew use it in a shoot and is in production. The shots that were taken will be in the movie.
I also ride and tour some amazing places but with a fixed cam it doesn't see where I am looking this does. Money well spent, and a great deal too!

I have one and LOVE it. It's not for everyday video but the quality and ease of use for point of view is great. I am a cyclist and sports guy, but I've done a lot with this at my job as a photographer also, I've put it on a pole at press conferences and events for high perspective shots, it's an amazing thing.

That said this is the old model. The new one has better low-light performance and more options. It also goes for $299 which is what I paid for this. I think I'm in for this woot because I can link it to my current gopro and shoot 3D movies.

They sell a whole line of different mounts for these cameras, including a standard threaded tripod mount. These cameras are amazing.

I think it would be cool to have one, but this would make you show off more & act stupid. So to save my ass from an ER trip I will pass. But it would make riding a bicycle trainer a lot better.

Ive been using one of these for a few year now and I love it. Im a skydiving videographer and I use this as a back up to my more professional quality camera. This camera is beyond solid. Its gone through a few hundred skydives some BASE jumps and some hard landing and it keeps going without missing a beat. Pick up two and you can link them together and start shooting in 3D.
Great camera go for it.

I have the HD HERO 960 and love it. This will be perfect for setting up multiple angles. I use mine for taking time lapse photos of just about anything, mounting to my AR15s, mountain biking, mountain boarding, beach camera, dash can, this thing does it all. Never had an issue with my battery. I was actually about to buy a HERO2 until I saw this. I already have the roll cage mount, chest mount, and a bunch of sticky mounts. I love this camera!

other uses besides Xgames stuff:

Popular with fisherman and hunters.
I've seen them mounted on dogcollars for some cool pooch eye views.
They mounted one on logs being pulled up a mtn for the Ford econoboost tv commercial.
I shot a family golf tourney and put it in the hole for a cool shot as the ball fell into the hole.
Folks mount them on cars and motorcycles.
Anywhere you can figure out a way to mount them.

I get 2hrs+ per battery, and fit over 2 batteries worth of 1080p on a centron 32gb card I got on another wootoff

I have been doing google and youtube searches for about a month looking for a cam to use on both my motorcycle and scooter.

Of the reviews I've read, it seems as though the displayed lcd operation info is a little primitive, i.e., confusing to decipher.

Never the less, I ordered one at this great price and if I don't like it, I'll sell it for the same price on craigslist.

Be very careful if you take these in the water. While the water housing will keep them dry and fully functioning, it sinks like a set of whiskey stones unless you have the "floaty backdoor" add-on.

I know countless surfers who've attached one of these to their board and shortly thereafter, unwillingly donated it to Davy Jones' Candid Locker Pranks.

So are we gonna kick it - Gonna kick it woot down - Gonna break it all down - Gonna kick it woot down!

A GoPro was used for the take-off and landing shots in this video and the underwater and boat-side shots of this video.

Great for professional applications, and you don't have to worry about it being destroyed at this price.
