Some say 'it's better to have tried and failed than never to have tried'. This is an exception to that rule. You're ahead of the game by at least $8.

I own this unit. Bought it about a year ago and have had zero issues. It is a bit slower for boot up than some others I've seen and the "wifi" is only compatible with samsungs stick (believe me I tried several others). i simply wired it to a bridge and its good to go. Streamed 1080p from my vudu acct, net flix, not a single issue. for this price, its a decent value, if internet connectivity is your want, the next step up, has wifi built in and may save you some hassle if you dont have the stuff needed to get it online already.
Finishing up a media room in my basement and will be adding another sammy unit there, but most likely a higher end unit with a bit more features.

Always make sure when you buy a blu-ray player that it doesn't take forever and a day for the door to open and close. I learned that the hard way a few years ago after buying one a wally world that was a deal where the player was like $100 or something you got a $40 gift card bonus. Thankfully, I finally got a new one a few months back for $70 and it is great!

Netflix and everything works fantastic, and it's a samsung. Not sure offhand if it is the same model as this one, but it is far superior to the magnavox I had previously.

I'm a little intrigued because of Vudu. I haven't seen many others that support this. I have a Vudu box in my living room (with lots of credit remaining, and the PQ of the content on Vudu is great) so it might be nice to have this one in the bedroom. Or maybe I'll get this one to replace my living room Blu-Ray and Vudu box, freeing up one HDMI spot.

from the link above......

Smart Hub is the same on nearly all 2011 Blu-ray players--and home theater systems with built-in Blu-ray players--but slightly different on Samsung TVs. The main exception on the Blu-ray side is the entry-level Samsung BD-D5300, which doesn't have the full Smart Hub interface.

I bought one a few models up from this and it worked great for a month. One day it did an automatic update and Netflix never worked again. A month of tech support where all they did was blame my router and firewall and no solution to this day. Bought a low end LG that has been great.

It seems that the lack of Amazon Instant Video from Samsung's SmartHub is a major complaint from both their customers, so I'm betting that eventually it'll be sorted out between the two companies. It may require a firmware upgrade, but I'm not too worried about that.

Is it officially a Woot Off killer if the Mods have time to select Quality Posts?

Thanks mods!

You're a fool. Most Korean companies (I used to work for one) and most companies utilize China for manufacturing. This includes Samsung.

Thanks for that catch!

So, can anyone with the BD-D5300 please confirm... precisely what apps are in fact included on this box?

It's baffling that information this basic is so hard to come by on the web, and that Woot's own description doesn't include the list. All it says is "Browse the entire internet, search content on your TV or online, download and use apps on your TV, and access video on demand." I want to know, WHICH APPS?

I shopped for a Blu-ray player for many months, and read hundreds of reviews. Samsung may be good in other product area, but they seemed to miss the boat on their BR products. Amazon reviews one more time for anyone thinking of buying. If you spend the money, just don't expect much. I ended up with a used PS3 and couldn't be happier.

seahokedrama wrote:Everyone I know personally has had bad experience with Walmart ship-to-store.

I've had great experienced with Ship to Store. Maybe an extra 5 minutes. I'd say it depends 100% on the particular Walmart in your area.

Answering my own question, I just found this:

http://www.samsung.com/us/video/blu-ray-dvd/BD-D5300/ZA-features

"...movies from Netflix or Blockbuster, TV shows from Hulu Plus, videos from YouTube, music from Pandora, and social updates from Facebook or Twitter."

Seems to be a (much) smaller subset of the regular "Samsung Apps" offerings on other devices.

When the mods decide your posting is worthy of being hotlinked to the top "summary" of posts by the product photo and price on the main Woot page.

I own one of these. If you MUST play blu-ray, then this is a decent unit. If you're looking for streaming capabilities, however, it's clunky and prone to choking over wireless. I have a Roku on the same TV and use it 99% of the time now.

Maybe it isn't "quality" if it helps people to decide NOT to buy the product

Wait, so wifi ready means you can buy accessories to add wifi? In that case my camera iw wifi ready (if you bought the eye-fi card yesterday). So is any appliance if you buy a wifi power strip.

I'll just enjoy my teleportation ready DVD player.

Hehe, they will sell... everything sells on Woot eventually. ;) But it's obvious that these comments may sell the product slower than planned.

In general, a quality post is something relevant to the item at hand, useful for purchasing decisions (pro OR con), humorous, id1otic, helpful, not helpful, irrelevant, insightful, retrospective, introspective, or just plain dumb.

Hope this helps.

Samsung is a good brand. I have a lot of Samsung stuff. I would not be afraid of wiring since it is more reliable.

Yeah but they seems to have missed the boat on positively reviewed Blu-ray players. Maybe something that costs $300 would be different, but their lower priced items are universally disparaged.

For the geeks amongst you, the firmware on this may be hackable. The SamyGO project targets Samsung TVs, but they seem to be looking at the Blu-ray players as well.
