Well, how do you fare compared to the Zeitgeist? Chat up your fellow wooters and let us know how lame this poll was or what obvious choices we missed. For example: Was this poll a) STUPID, b) DUMB, c) POINTLESS or d) ALL OF THE ABOVE?

When I know I've had wayyy too many calories, I will hop on the elliptical and punish myself :\

Only if chasing kids and maintaining a multi-job schedule counts as exercise.

I used to work out regularly, but that went out the window a few years ago. Now I'm trying to get back into it, but there are many days when it is difficult to muster the energy. Also, it's not always very easy to convince yourself to get up 30-60 minutes earlier than you would otherwise need to just to exercise... It's tempting to choose the extra half hour of sleep over getting up and working out.

I work in a call center, so after work, going to the gym is a nice pace away from sitting all day attached to a cord.

I try for M-T, sometimes Sunday, with Friday and Saturday being my veg days.

Sunday, and Tuesday Ultimate frisbee, a softball game Tues, or Thurs, and I pump iron wendsday, and Saturday......But if you want a good work out try ultimate frisbee. For the first two months until you become good, and fast enough to even touch the disk, its just you running up, and down a grass field!

I am 46, and have been lifting weights 3 days a week for about ten years. The other days I ride my mountain bike about 10 miles per trip. It helps me keep my weight at 155 lbs. at 5"10.

If you lack the energy, I highly recommend a preworkout. Most purchased online run less than a dollar per serving, much better than any "energy drink" and they have nutrients that help your body perform better, maximizing your results from your efforts.

is a good place to find out what is good. I prefer Super Pump Max Green Apple. Don't be turned off by the name, sorry. I have many girl-friends that enjoy it. Most are for weight lifting, not as much for cardio.

I wished I could work out more or just work out. I sit in front of a computer for 10 hours of the day and then come home to more computer and do another 6 hours, then sleep and do it all over again. On my days off, I just want to try and catch up on sleep, then I get in front of that dreaded computer again. When I sit in front of the computer, I am not scarfing food down, but eating regular meals, so hopefully I am doing something right??

Nothing silly about scheduling workouts. Many days in the Texas summer are too hot for bike rides or labor.

I follow Stronglifts 5x5 3x/week + light jogging 2x/week + activities with the kids.

Daily (minus the occasional weekend rest day). Not because I want to. Goodness knows all I want to do is eat BLTs and drink Barqs root beer all day, but a condition of my employment is that I have to maintain a high level of physical fitness. So there it is.

Consistency is the key. Once you have a pattern set, its allot easier and you see more results. I've been working out for about 8 months now and its hard not to.

I'm actually in the process of reworking my schedule due to my new summer class schedule, but this is what I've been doing: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I run 5 kilometers (3.1 miles). Once a week I go to a rock climbing gym and work on that for an hour or two. Every couple weeks I try to take the opportunity to go out and ocean kayak, or hike.

I don't think working out for the sake of working out is silly. I think if you have a good reason for doing it, then that's your business and it's fine. I work out for the sake of weight loss and maintaining good health. So far so good.

Typically would lift 2 - 3 times, and run/elliptical 3-4 times, (most of those on the same day), but have been sidelined with a torn quad/ITB issues for several months now. I still do light lifting and biking/walking, but I definitely notice the difference in energy, the way I feel/look. THAT is why I "schedule" workouts... good for you, good for me... PT!

I played softball and baseball until I was 38, then I tore my leg muscle and cannot run from home to 1st any more. At almost 60 years of age, I'm climbing up and down stairs of 1-, 2- and 3- floor homes (add one more flight for attics) hauling 200 lbs of equipment in and out of each house, 3-6 houses daily for my inspections and loading and unloading from my car. I figure that has to count for something..

i'm going to recommend this book/DVD in the hopes that it will benefit at least one person on here. i wish i had found this 10 years earlier and saved myself a lot of wasted time and stupid thinking about exercise. and it's so sad that for most americans, "working out" means going to a gym to walk/jiggle on a machine. we have sidewalks, why don't you walk in the real world?

anyway, here's the book... by far the best beginner's training resource published in english:
starting strength, 3rd edition

good luck

I am in a similar position. I work for 8 hours at a computer (actually closer to 10 since I get there at 7:30am and typically leave close to 5pm most days).

I am not a fitness nut, but I do have an exercise bike that I use for 20 minutes daily. It is a Schwinn Airdyne Evo Comp that I purchased earlier this year. But I didn't purchase just for the sake of working out, I gained 19 pounds in 7 months and was starting to have issues eating spicy food.

As for your story, maybe try disconnecting from the Internet for a while when you get home.

I totally agree! Getting out of bed early just doesn't sound appealing at the time! However, I can honestly say if I do wake up early to work out, I never regret it
