How on earch do you work out #23?

It looks like it should be simple but i cant find any combination of a 4x4 bloack where the rows etc add up to 34!

I've even resorted to typing in every combination of x and y co-ords and still nothing works!

What am i missing?

Google docs spreadsheets helped with this one immensely, there's no real secret to it.

Would you mind PMing me what the silverlight way of dealing with it was, I tried that but gave up and solved it without silverlight.

Sweet! I made it in the top 100 as well. Very excited. I bought the woot shirt as well to commemorate it.
I'm just glad to be done with it...top 100 or not. It was all consuming for nearly 3 days there. I couldn't sleep, or work...I was obsessed.
Now I can get back to some game development.

The blog itself is the clue.
Not hidden in the source or anything.

That specific blog post has everything in it to solve that puzzle.
You might need an external tool to assist with part of it, but all of the information is there.

Is it all falling apart now that 100 people have finished it? I'm on #56 (tdpe.justinkohnen.com/2/) and I'm trying to put in the url for level 57. At first it just sat there and loaded forever. Now I get "The service is unavailable." Anyone else having this problem?

Last 5 WOOTs
11/5/09 - Vornado Soleaire Personal Foot Heater
10/28/09 - Box of 15 Marian Heath Christmas Cards - Random 5 Pack
8/24/09 - InCharge for Xbox 360 Inductive Charging System with 2 Rechargeable Batteries
1/27/09 - USB Missile Launcher - 2 Pack
12/11/08 - USB Powered Woot-Off Lights

It doesn't appear to be you guys. I just retried the correct URL I used for 57 and am also getting service unavailable deal.
You should post on their FaceBook page and let them know there's an issue.

fakon! Spent like 30 minutes trying to figure out the 'trick' when it's just the server being down.

Stuck at 55 1/2 I guess.

I think it's just the puzzles hosted on Justin Kohnen's site. Which would be 56-61. Someone needs to kick him in the butt.
His puzzles were kind of dumb anyway.

In the 3 hours since I've been stuck with the server being down. Just completed TDPE1. Damn that was easy. I mean compared to this.. I've spent 3 hours on a single level in TDPE2.

Just got to 56 and had to check here to make sure that "The service is unavailable" wasn't some strange clue to get to 57. Guess it's time for bed!

Ok, I need a hint on 58. It is the "Something missing?" one with the all white AlmostThere.png.

Given that no one else has mentioned it in 18 pages, I'm sure I'm missing something simple.

I've googled this for over an hour, and read the entire wiki article on the riddle.

Who short first????

Have no idea how that relates to the riddle. Every variation I could find is asking for a number.

What am I missing?

[[EDIT]]
Ok. That was just stupid. This guy's puzzles are either way to simple, or have no relevance to anything. 'Who shot first?' could refer to anything. I just breezed over the first few search results, as I gave the creator of this puzzle too much credit. And at least accept the "FULL" answer, as I would have solved it awhile ago. It also would make sense to have the answer only be accepted in binary as the riddle, button value, and error message are all in binary. The server also either seems to be really slow or down a lot as well.

Excuse my rant, but I really hope they don't bring him back next year. Other other than the last couple of levels, I've enjoyed this.

Can't wait to finish the last couple of levels and be done with this part.

What am I doing wrong on #74?

I can't figure out why...

000
101
011

...is not right.

I even plugged it into JC's GoL simulator and it agrees with me...

The shape is a well known shape in life. Don't assume the upper left cell is the same cell in both grids.

Stuck on this one as well.. Guessing I have the letter if it is related to the list of sites and the page title. Still, not sure what to do with it.

Haha! As I write this, a page I tried brought me back to the one with the albums.. Still stuck though..

Oh well. Think I'll play some poker and try again tomorrow.

For #66, I did solve "A" problem with "TWICE" the "ID" of the last one.

It won't accept the answer though. Am I missing something? I solved both variations of #00001010. (I've found 2 variations of the same question to solve for 2 different numbers).

[[EDIT]] Nevermind.. Never trust code written by others lol

Sounds like you already know the structure of the cipher; you might want to go searching for other keys based on those shapes. Sometimes you don't have to put letters in the key in order.

Hi all,

Can someone please help me with Level 21? I thought I figured out the clues, and ended up at this website:

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2797806/what-tricks-can-be-used-to-type-and-edit-code-faster

Looking through several forums, the site seems to be correct and I know I'm suppose to look for the jigsaw piece, but I really cannot find it.

I've restarted my comp, looked through each and every post in Chrome and IE but still cant find the piece. I know the puzzle has been going on for a while and figured maybe the link has been removed?

In any case, could someone just pls post the url to Level 22 and I'll continue my journey from there? Thank you very much for all your help!

I think the puzzle piece must be gone. It was gone on stackoverflow also (I edited the question so future users won't get stuck) - I think the puzzle is starting to rot as 'collaborating' sites remove their puzzle pieces. I couldn't find anything on answers.oreilly.com and can't find a link to level 26 . . .

The puzzle is indeed broken. Link to 26 which should be on answers.oreilly.com is http://toughestdeveloperpuzzleever.com/tdpe2/oreillybooks.aspx
