Btw, regarding the poster worried about buying a "refurb". I have purchased a few with luck so far, just like a "new" unit they are usually tested and work when they leave the factory. My wife bought a new Dell laptop that arrived DOA, ya just never know what punishment they are subjected to during transit. Mine has to go all the way cross country, you bet I'm sweat'n it.

Thanks - I am in Los Angeles. I will be waiting too!

I almost didn't recieve my computer. I have been tracking the delivery online, so when the UPS truck passed my apartment I got really upset, and chased the UPS truck down. I asked him if he delieverd a computer today, because I was suppose to get mine. He said he did. They had the wrong adress on the box, but my name. So he went to the apartment to get it. The little girl was so upset, because she thought she got a new computer. I checked my ticket online and it had the correct address. So, It wasn't my fault. I don't know if it is UPS fault, or woot. If it is UPS woot should not do buisness with them again. So, when I recieved my computer it was opened already. Hope I got all the parts.

Got my shipment notification today, got the PC yesterday, that's too funny.
I also ordered the HP restore disks from HP yesterday for $16.01, and received an email a little bit ago that they have been shipped.
Looking good.

Keep on Wooting !!!

Mine worked for about 30 minutes before crapping out. Spent and hour on the phone with tech support only for them to tell me I had to send it in. That's what I get for buying refurbished!

You might try removing the memory modules and re-installing them. Do the same with the video card (remove and replace). Sometimes bumpy rides have a tendency to knock things around inside a computer.
Good Luck!

Good advise. Having the PC travel across country via UPS scares me more than the fact that it's a "refurb".

Received this and set it up yesterday. Took my time making sure this was done correctly, and it went smoothly. Turned it on,registered the product and then it did a recommended update. Upon re-starting, the whole thing crashed and turned off. After over an hour with HP tech support, and taking out the memory, evaluating the hard drive (way more than I'd care to do with a new computer!), it was determined to be in need of a repair at the service center.
I am so unhappy with this. I was under the impression that a reconditioned product was tested out at the factory, and returned to "like new" specifications. Well this computer must of been passed over during someone's break!
I may re-think the "refurb" purchases in the future, as I am not getting a replacement, but a "send back and we'll fix" unit.

Sadly,
FA

I also spent over an hour on the phone with tech support. Turns out I have a bad system board, and it need to be sent in. Now I have to wait another 7-9 days to get my computer. Hopefully it doesn't keep having problems until the 90 day warrenty is up.

Just wondering... how many of you wooters know this HP is OUT of WARRANTY? I have just found out the hard way, mine did not work, I called twice and also had a chat, no luck with the "90 day warranty" as the booklet states. The thing turns on, will not open any programs or go to the internet, I got the clock set and named it and that's about all it will do,I have a shiny black $400 boat anchor. I'm scared for life now HP and WOOT!

I hope you have better luck than me, my refurb didn't work, so thinking it's like "new" I called HP and talked to one of those indians that you can't understand, come to find out it's OUT of warranty!I am sooo pissed!

It has been 7 business days and I received the confirmation email but to date, no PC, no email with tracking information. Nothing. I emailed service@woot more than 24 hours ago and still nothing. But they took my money already. What gives Woot? Never had any problems before.

roadhunter wrote:$150 more was worth it for their needs? What are they doing? My parents are doing fine with a 6 year old Celeron running XP. It surfs the web and holds tens of thousands of photos just fine.

Their grandkids use the computer often when they're over there. Mainly for simple games, a lot of movie watching, homework, surfing the net, etc. For the price & specs of it... I'm confident it will last them 5-8 yrs at least; much like their first HP Presario I bought them many years back that lasted about 7 yrs heh.

I think Woot sold us all a box of junk. On phone with HP support right now to find out that the hard drive is failing. Not sure if I will need to send in the PC as I am on hold to be transferred to the "hardware Supervisor". This blows!!!

Mine here is also DOA. (Actually, it managed to boot once. Only once).

Returning to HP support for motherboard or processor replacement.

Have a return scheduled. But I just now figured out that re-seating the processor seems to fix the issue. uggh.

I asked for a manager and advised how displeased I was with the situation. I demanded a technician be sent out to replace my hard drive and that they (HP) waive the $50.00 charge. After some hold time, my demands were met.

Got mine yesterday, everything seems fine. Did all the Windows updates, etc, no problems.

Also installed another hard drive and set up Ubuntu 10.10 (32-bit) on it. Again, no problems.

The only beef I have is that the only option for expansion is SATA. This itself isn't a problem, but there are NO SATA POWER CONNECTORS COMING OFF THE POWER SUPPLY.

What the fudge, Woot/HP? It makes sense to include a power supply with the appropriate connectors for internal drives, yes? Luckily, I had a few adapters squirreled away because I am a huge geek.

Just got mine and it works like a dream. Of course, it replaces a 7 year old Dell, so how bad could it be. A little tricky getting rid of the insane amounts of bloatware, but otherwise no problems. I was incredibly nervous after reading all of your comments about these showing up DOA, so even though I got lucky I'll probably stay away from refurbished items going forward.

Mine has arrived here in Phoenix, all is well and up and running. I cracked open the case before even firing it up, all was well. Was a little worried because it has been in the hands of UPS since the 4th. I feel for you wooters who have had problems with yours, feel a little guilty.

Woot on!!

Received mine on Valentines day in Salt Lake City. Seems to work fine. So far. Have done Windows update and backed up to an external drive. When I registered the machine, it said my Warranty was up 6-4-2011. I thought it was a 1 year. (didn't read the small print I guess). They said refurbished machines come with a 90-day warranty.

So, to the guy who said, "Just wondering... how many of you wooters know this HP is OUT of WARRANTY?" - Make a little noise and get your warranty!

Also, slightly disappointed that I can't put my IDE drive in. Are there converter/connectors that I can use, or any software to transfer programs from an XP?

What kind of adapter will I need to put an additional hard drive in?

You are wrong. Warranty is 90 days per HP.
I registered it with HP and received a warranty date of 6/14/2011

One thing (of many) that I dislike about HP is that the computers are now made in Mexico. Real 'quality control' in That Third World Crime Pit country!
No thanks!

Hated all three of them? Why would you continue to buy something you hated to start with?

Just received my Computer today,
appears to be working fine except I'm not quite sure if the built in wi-fi finder is working. It detects my router but it's receiving No signal, as such it's unable to connect.

I'm going to do some further experimentation and see whats up.

I was able to install my old SATA HD inside. My secondary power connector is attached to the primary HD power lines.

Where I'm Bummed is my TV tuner card and audio card is PCI-x, not PCI-Express. Brain farted on that one. And my old DVD writer and another DVD player were IDES only, no SATA. Hoping to part out my 2005 HP Media Center which worked great until the dust bunnies shorted the motherboard. But the HD found a new home so far all is good.

What is the difference between the system recovery discs made on the computer and the factory made discs?

It worked great until this week. Some blue screen crashes and core dumps, then more, and now it will not boot. Tried a number of attempts including re-seat all boards and connectors inside; boot from HP Repair disc; re-built the HD from the Factory image (still on the D parition); and others efforts.

Checked into my "90-day HP Warranty" starting on 2 Feb 2011, and found out it expired a year ago. I have a request form into HP to correct the Warranty issue. I have talked to a nice HP Tech on the phone and he has a couple of suggested actions but these seem like grasping for straws to re-check hardware and if that passes, diconnect the hard disk and see what happens. (Yeah...I know.) I will perfrom these tonight but suspect it will need hardware replacement.

Are you talking about this antenna by chance?

If so, that's the one for wireless connectivity.
