I bought two. The Samsung headsets I've had before have been quite good.

I think I solved my own question regarding sales tax.

I live in Washington State. Woot is now owned by Amazon. Amazon is headquartered in Washington State.

Ergo, Washington State sales tax applies.

Sucks, but can't do anything about it.

The ear loop is fragile and has broken off of mine. The sound isn't clear/loud enough for car use, and people seem to have a hard time hearing me through it. I much prefer my Jawbone. The Samsung is nice and light however.

Got a $25 Samsung headset with $20 mail-in-rebate a year and a half ago and I'm still waiting for my $20, even after calling Samsung and them telling me it was on the way.

Got this on sale a few weeks back. There is a reason they're giving it away for $5 or free. The over-ear clasp is flimsy and uncomfortable, but mainly, this headset is absolutely useless for car driving. it "cancels" ambient noise by turning it into static and making you unintelligible. Only time I've had somebody ask "what?" more often was when I was trying to use me handset in direct wind. If you want this for around-the-house use then it's a good deal. If you want it to be on the go, don't waste your time with the order and rebate process.

I ordered two of these Jan. 5, 2011 and still have not received a rebate.
they have a popping sound in back ground, at first I thought the person I was talking with was watching fire works.

Fry's B&M has the 450 for $20.99 - less than a buck after MIR (no shipping if you've got one within spitting distance)
http://www.frys.com/product/6491472?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

Also, Newegg just posted the 470 at $21.99 with a $20 rebate and free shipping with a limit of 5 - though probably only one rebate per household.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875982324&Tpk=N82E16875982324

All 3 look to be VERY similar, and probably all have the same internal components, and have the same (dis)comfort level.

Looks like Samsung has so many of these they have to give them away.

I got the 450, and it seems to work OK - certainly well enough for a ~ 3 dollars (add rebate postage and CA sales tax on $22)

BEWARE OF THIS REBATE!!!!

I bought 3 samsung WEP470s on Woot in October. It was the same deal -- free after rebate. Long story short, I never got the $60 in rebates i was supposed to. I called the rebate company, and they said they had been shipped. When I told them I never received them, they issued new rebate cards, but I never saw those either.

BEWARE!!! SCREW YOU SAMSUNG AND THE SHADY REBATE COMPANY YOU WORK WITH!!!

It's NOT a great deal if it quits working! This is exactly what happened to me. At first the volume was very low...could hardly hear the voice on the other end. Then, a few weeks later it just stopped working. I did get a $20 card as a rebate but it still cost me 5 bucks for shipping.

I liked it when I saw it the first time, and even when I saw it on the wootoff, but this time you have gone too far!

Btw, you can title this post, "MattG293 Bemoans Over Nothing Useful."

If anyone, for whatever crazy reason, has a UPC from one of these that they're not submitting for the rebate, could you please notify me. I went to fill out my rebate today from one of these that I bought last time they were on woot and realized that my packaging must have accidentally been discarded. Thank you for any help you might be able to give.

timmyvee wrote:Bought these (3) about one year ago and I am on the third one. I like these sets a lot but with daily use, one of two things is eventually likely to happen. Either the small rubber ring that cushions it in your ear canal will fall off, rendering this unit painful to wear or the plastic ear hook will break, again making the unit unusable. For five bucks, you can't beat it however, and the rebate Visa cards, as I seem to remember, came very quickly in the mail.

I used a small piece of heat shrink tubing to replace the lost rubber ring and it has worked fine for me. Better than the original, actually, because all I had around at the time was the kind with adhesive inside and it is stuck on there very securely.

That is why you buy three for little added cost (postage for multiple rebates)

Best thing I have found is to use these cards all at once. Drop the $20 in your tank and be done with it. Some cards have a monthly fee if you don't use them, or a 'usage' fee when you do.
Be aware that some of these cards are charging a activation fee, so you may not get your full $20.

If you didnt get a receipt you should have been sent one through your email. I have never not received a receipt via email or at least paypal.

Bluetooth is bluetooth and should work. HOWEVER - it will not resolve the fact that you can not get any cell coverage cuz you're stuck on AT&T.

My laptop has bluetooth embedded in it and I use a bluetooth earpiece instead of a bulky headset when using SKYPE and such. You can also get BT USB dongles for desktops if needed.

This is my second blue tooth so I am no expert. The first one i thru out of my car window because it would not stay in place. This one rocks and you don't even know it is on your ear. No weird feedback into the piece either. Have been told by people on the other end it sounds fine.

I bought two; always one in the car and the other on the charger.

Can't speak for the sound quality, since I don't have one, but this apparently has one VERY NICE FEATURE - dedicated power switch. It looks a lot like the Motorola headsets I own, and I buy Moto strictly because of the power switch. Slide one direction, it's on, the other and it's off. None of this soft-switch nonsense where you have to guess if you pressed the switch long enough to turn it on or off, and the only way to know the state of the headset is to look for a flashing blue LED.

Picked this up on the last woot. Works perfectly with the Motorola Droid (1st gen).

Great audio quality and easy to set up.

My only gripe is I cannot get music from the Droid to stream to this device, but definitely worth the price ($5 after rebate shipped).

My rebate is currently on its way from the processing center. :-)

I've found a great product to essentially make your own small parts for almost anything. Check out Sugru.

It's kinda expensive but works wonderfully on everything I've made. One packet should be more than enough to make a new "bendy/comfy" ear hook.
