Meh, I don't need one. I have an eBook reader, a netbook, and iPod Touch, a Blackberry, and a laptop.

I think I'm pretty set on technology for awhile (getting a Droid here in a few months, ditching RIM).

Can you put the e-book stores on this after rooting? How does it perform as an e-book reader?

You can put ebook stores on there without rooting.

I picked one of these up when Woot had them last time. The viewing angles are a bit crappy, since it's got a netbook screen in it, but it hasn't really been a problem for me.
Check out the G-tablet forum over at the XDA forums if you end up picking this up. Tons of great ROMs for it. I'm running VEGAn Tab on mine, and it's blazing fast!

You can't just yet because Google hasn't released to source code to Honeycomb, but when they do, you will be able to.

Viewsonic has made the g-Tablet EXTREMELY easy to "hack", in fact they encourage it. So custom ROMs are a-plenty (check xda-developers.com), and if and when Honeycomb goes truly open source, I'm sure someone will port it to the g-Tablet.

For this price, it's a great tablet with almost the same hardware as the Xoom but at half the price.

Android 3 isn't an option yet, as we are waiting for Google to release the code for Honeycomb.

However there are some other great ROMs in the community. I love my gTablet, and so do the folks at work that have iPads. Just the microSD alone is epic. Duh....winning.

I got this last time, installed tnt-lite with little effort and now have full android market access. This tablet is WELL worth the money if you're not afraid to get your hands a little dirty installing a ROM. Also, even if you totally screw up the first time, it's easy to reset it back to factory to try again. (google and XDA developers are your friend). I bricked mine the first time and was able to get it back online within an hour.
The screen is the weakest piece of the hardware but not an issue considering most people view tablets directly instead of at an angle. This thing is fast, well supported by the community and a tweakers dream come true for the price. I love mine, too. The Amazon Android store works beautifully right out-of-the-box, but ironically the Google Android store does not (without rooting).

This is very disappointing if true. Being able to upgrade the OS is my main reason for going with an Android tablet vice an iPad.

Got mine from the last sale and love it. As mentioned in the last thread, the screen has a limited viewing angle, but I haven't found that to be a problem.

I'm already using it more than I thought I would. Plan to root it eventually but the default install, after an update is OK.

Got one in the last offering and love it. Immediately took off Tap n Tap (I think that's it) and put on the Vegan-TAB ROM. It was very easy to do this, no dev knowledge needed (I have none, step-by-step instructions are on the XDA forums). Now have Google Market and Flesh. Hardware is similar to the Xoom but at a fraction of the price. Definitely worth getting one to sate any tablet cravings until the market develops more.

ezPDF Reader for 99 cents is a great buy. Definitely beats the free Adobe Reader by a landslide. Adobe Reader is crippled at best, with no bookmarking capability, or ability to jump to a specific page, it is essentially useless unless looking at a 1 or 2 page document.

I got my gTablet from Woot and love it! Also, Sears sells a decent neoprene case with handles that fits the gTablet for a mere 6 bucks! Otherwise you can get some nice portfolio cases from it2steve at www.electroniccrap.com.

Yes. I have Kindle and Nook apps on here as well as Comics a comic book reader and others. If you just figure the cost of a Nook color and a Kindle, you MAKE money on this deal.

Bought one of these at the last sale.

Great hardware. Flashed it with TnT Lite and it's working great.

Patience my son The custom ROMs are easy to do and will keep you plenty happy until someone puts a Honeycomb ROM out there. And, all for under $300.!!!
