I bought this last year from Woot and while Woot is oh so great, the Mattress is horrible. I would not recommend this product at all! I've slept on memory foam mattresses before and this is nothing like those. You sink all night long and heaven forbid you have 2 people in there...it's horrific. Super uncomfortable, super sinkable, and hurts your limbs/neck/back like nothing else. P.s. I'm not a big girl or anything, just normal gal over here, so the sinkability shouldn't be so ridiculous. I tried to put the mattress directly on the floor and still had issues. Not a good product. at. all.

This mattress is terrible! The middle of it never puffed up and I sent Woot a message about it and they said they couldn't do anything. Biggest waste of money. Literally $200+ thrown away.

I suppose that you could clamp it between two boards, and then get a smooth cut. But let it expand first. If you handle it too much before it expands, it WILL tear.

The heated wire will fuse the foam where you use it on that edge... it is better to use the mechanical carving/bread knife, if you make one long deep pass with it you can eliminate any jagged edges. The hot wire can make the side cut feel different on that edge.

I own a mattress store that does a half mil a year and carries everything coming and going, and I'm telling you, DON'T DO THIS! Lots of crap foam is imported from China, where they don't have an EPA and they don't regulate their manufacturing sector like we do here in the old USA. (See, regulation is often a force for good.)The fact that they're talking about out-gassing is NOT good. Properly cured foam is done out-gassing within 48 hours after being foamed. This is just gonna be one more piece of toxic crap in the landfill in a few years. Do me a favor. Go to a real mattress store, and buy and innerspring bed (firm, plush firm, pillowtop, your choice). It's still by far the most eco choice you can make. No bargain here.

Well, I've been thinking all day on this mattress (for the umpteenth time it has come up mind) and this worries me. I have had thus far fantastic customer service from woot, but if I have an issue after following the directions perfectly with a sag in teh center within the first 90 days I'm out of luck then? $254.99 is a lot of money to spend on a possible dud.

I bought this mattress last year, and while I wont say it's the best mattress in the world, it actually is quite comfortable. It does take a few weeks to get used to it, but once you have done that it's great. My wife is pregnant and she has a much better time sleeping on it than she did when we had the "bowling ball" mattress which cost over 1200. For the price it's a good deal, and you can afford to buy a new one every 3-5 years.

soOOOOO MUCH misinformation/bad information/people who can't read/etc...

None will probably read this far, but... I LOOOOOOOVE PONIES...

I have one that came from Sam's club a few years ago -- it's about the same quality but I paid more (~$400 IIRC)

Yes - they take a couple of days to expand, and a couple of weeks for the smell to go away. I think the smell was more from the adhesives than the foam...

They make these things, crush them in a huge press and wrap them in plastic so they can stuff them in a box. They don't have the time to wait for all the smell to go away, but...

Put it outside in the sun and I bet the smell is gone much sooner -- probably expand faster too!

YES - there are different sizes on different woot sites. They have different prices. Yes, woot knows - they do after all run the sites!

Those thinking this is a rip because it's not 100% "memory foam" are stupid - *ALL* these mattresses, including the infamous "TV Version" - are ~1/4 Mem-foam-3/4 Reg-foam. 100% mem-foam would be impossible to sleep on if it was more than a few inches thick, and it would be too hard if on a flat board...

If it's "sagging" in the middle it's probably because you have it on a standard box-spring. These things need SUPPORT!!

I found someone giving away an old waterbed frame with drawers under. I tossed the tacky WB headboard and side-boards, just used the platform/drawers and put my foam mattress on it, then screwed an antique headboard/footboard to that. With a "bed skirt" it looks like an antique bed, lots of extra storage, and solid as a rock!

All these are hard to sit on - the mem-foam tends to sink on the edge, but lay on it and... it's HEAVEN!

Then again, Wifey and I are normal-to-slim-sized people. I'd say if you're over 250, you might need to look elsewhere...

Just think about it - if you're 350#, you're going to crush the mem-foam flat and now your weight's on the "regular foam" that's more susceptible to getting "caved in" permanently. The problem is YOU'RE TOO BIG! Losing some weight would be good for you AND your bed!

Sex? Well, there's no "bounce", but there's also no squeaking -- since we have kids in the house, quiet's more important than bounce anyway...

For US, it's much BETTER with this, because WE are in control and in good enough shape to get the deed done without needing the assistance of a bouncy mattress... With this, there's also a lot less sliding around when things get vigorous - meaning no need to stop and adjust position...

As for sleeping, for the first time in either of our lives we'd fall asleep and wake up hours later in the exact same position -- WITHOUT soreness! The foam just cradles and supports, so no "pressure spots" and no tossing around trying to get comfortable!

We've had ours for several years, and it's as good as new. Is it as good as the TV-Version for TWENTY TIMES the price? Probably not, but then how could you expect it to be?

One thing's for damn sure -- the TV-version isn't 20x better!!

We'd actually agreed - after realizing we really liked it - to buy the high-$$ version when this one pooped out. After ~5 years or so we've decided we'd rather buy a NEW one of the same, but our old one shows no signs of dying out yet!

If we had it to do over, we surely would!

In fact, we're VERY tempted by the king-version...

So - my advice is "if you can afford it, GRAB IT!

DD

I've heard some say they bought this a year ago and it was too soft. I bought it 6 months or so ago and it's far too firm. I'm guessing it's a crap shoot whether this one is too firm or soft. I wish I'd gotten a "too soft" one instead.

I'd avoid any type of synthetic memory foam matresses, they offgas significant volatile organic chemicals and can contribute, or exascerbate many existing conditions....

Go latex.

Here's a link to one with an identical description:
http://shop.californiapedic.com/10-Pillow-Top-Luxury-Collection-Memory-Foam-Mattress-10-Pillow-Top-Soft-Luxury.htm
Unfortunately, they don't look like much of a manufacturer...

Another one indicates it may be Golden Pedic, "made in the USA" with very suspicious Chinese to Engrish babblefish style grammar:
http://www.texasoverstock.net/servlet/the-469/Golden-Pedic-10%27%27-Memory/Detail

It's also listed at Walmart, with Country of Origin USA and/or Imported, with some reviews:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/10-Memory-Foam-Mattress-With-Bonus-Contour-Pillow/10910453

I'm thinking... We send all our CRT monitors to China, they recycle them, add all sorts of polymers to make Chinese Memory foam, ship it back to us, so it can be "Assembled in the US" where they basically add the "Aloe vera-treated mattress cover" and call it Made In USA!

It's a crap shoot with cheap no-name memory foam mattresses. There's no consistency in the manufacturing process from lot to lot. Some people get mattresses as hard as the floor and other get mattresses as soft jello. That's why reviews vary so much.

The mattress isn't necessarily the only potential source of bounce... Many people here seem to like using IKEA platform beds, for which the more expensive slats have some bounce to them.

Hey WOOT. Amazon promised NOT to change things, but they did. No more 2 FOR TUESDAYS, and lots of very expensive things almost every day. The computers and TV's were great once in a while, but now it's hard to find something I can buy on a whim. Expensive things require lots of forethought. Unless I need a computer, I am not going to drop $400 for one. I might buy a tool set, a hard drive, or some cool electronic item that I don't really need, though. Don't fix something that isn't broken. I used to stay up to see what you were offering. Now I only check WOOT if I'm bored. I am a good customer. I've bought 75 different WOOTS, and T shirts and wine woots, too. All my pals at the hospital I work at say they have given up on you. What gives?

Dud wrote:If you are seriously considering the purchase of one of these please consider the following:

■ Composed of 2.5-inch advanced ‘next generation’ viscoelastic (memory) foam on a 7.5-inch polyurethane base

This is NOT ... and I repeat NOT a memory foam mattress, this is a poly mattress with a 2.5 inch topper. I know, I have one. I got suckered into buying one of these almost two years ago and I paid much more for it. I was enticed by the fact that I could buy a "memory foam" mattress for a fraction of what a Tempur-pedic costs ... so I bought. I've been sleeping on one for two years and here is my take on them:

- They can run HOT, especially in the summer.

- If you sleep on your stomach your back may hurt in the morning (I know mine does).

- The matress feels like a Tempur matress until you depress the memory foam to it's full extent (2.5") and then the poly kicks in, making the matress feel very hard.

Did I mention that this is NOT a "memory foam" mattress? Think of it as a cheap poly mattress with a memory foam topper. IMHO the ONLY thing this deal has going for it is the price.

Everyone saying this is a cheap knockoff because its only 2.5 in on top of a foam base DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. The ultimate in memory foam, TEMPUR-PEDIC, also uses THE SAME method of making the mattress. The top few inches is memory foam while the rest is support foam. THIS IS THE CASE WITH ALL MEMORY FOAM MATTRESSES. As always, do your homework before you buy.
