Got mine (gift for the wife, I have too many trinkets as it is) and love it. I own a T-Mobile Galaxy S 4G and a Streak7. I think I would rather have this than the Streak....

Wife absolutely loves it (she only had a Blackberry for work up til now). I bought it and plan on tethering it to my phone so she can get as much enjoyment out of it as possible.

I can't get anything to DL fom the android marketplace but the Samsung aps store works. This is my fieat Android device. Is there something i am doing wrong? It just says dowloading starting and it never starts.

tracking shows package left local office at 10:45am (seems little late?)
saw fedex/usps truck outside around 2:40pm.

tracking still shows 'out for delivery' and its 6:50pm PST atm.

anyone in LA got it yet?

Mine was delivered by my normal USPS carrier in Orange County abut 2:30 pm, not on a fedex truck. Sometimes there is a day or two delay from the date Fedex hands package off to USPS.

Apps downloading fine from Marketplace, sometimes it does not immediately receive wifi, but a retry is all it takes. Make sure you have a good connection.

Got the Skinomi in today and on the device. The woodgrain is nice and thick and you have to place it perfectly for everything to match up. It looks nice. A little warmth from the hairdryer made it stick better and conform to the device. The jury is still out on the clear protector, it certainly does not look as good as the bare screen, but hey I'm out for protection more than looks. The directions do say to give it 2-3 days and it would visually get better, so I have my fingers crossed that it will.

GPS fix from the market helps the Navigation app connect faster. Still no go with the Camera flash working with a flashlight app so if you guys can give some feedback on that one, I would be obliged.
There should be a lot more info with everyone starting to get their devices in. Thanks Woot! Is there are will there be a forum covering this device? or maybe this is it for now?

Mine's still showing a delivery date of the 28th, but it's in Michigan. I'm in Indiana. So close!

For those of you who have bought cases/screen protectors off ebay, what do you search for since this device isn't really in the US market yet? Is this the same size as another Samsung? Thanks!

Do a search for Samsung Galaxy WiFi 5.0. That should lead you to a selection of cheap custom-fitted plastic/silicone cases (back protectors, really) in various colors, and clear screen protectors. There really aren't any nice cases or ones with stands except for one slightly expensive, not that attractive leather one with an easel. However, the plastic cases are better than nothing and they are all inexpensive ($3.00 to $5.00, including shipping). All are from Hong Kong and China.

I tried using mine as a phone even though it's not, as we all know by now, a phone. Anyone know of decent apps that will allow you to use this device as a phone without using any of your plan minutes - and for free? I tried using Groove IP but certain buttons (hangup, speaker, dialpag) don't work during a call.

And since this thing doesn't have a standalone phone app, Google Voice by itself won't allow you to make any calls. I haven't used Skype, but then again I don't want to pay per minute for non-video calls to other phones.

Oh, and though the thing has GPS, you CANNOT (or at least I couldn't) use navigation without a data connection. The only way I could get this to work was by using my normal phone has a portable wifi and connecting to it that way.

Then as I was. Since you had no smartphone/PMP player I felt it was a reasonable assumption on my part that you didn't have oodles of video files :P

So... counterfeits hu? who do I trust?
Is there no way to get a killer deal on this things?

Person you trust is a legit organization like Amazon or BB. It adds to the cost somewhat, but that's because few flash memory manufaturers other than sandisk are making 32GB MicroSD cards right now. You MAY want to consider buying 2 16GB MicroSD cards from someone like AmazonBasics for the price of one Sandisk 32GB card.

Mine is sitting at my local post office here in VA, as of 11am Friday. It should be delivered tomorrow, although I'm not as excited as the rest of you, since I already have a Galaxy S phone. The reason I bought this was for the larger screen and 60 hours (!!!) of battery life. My phone barely lasts a day on a full charge, and I refuse to buy one of the large extended batteries, because I cannot part with my awesome Otterbox Commuter case.

If it's anything like the Galaxy S phone, this should be a fantastic device. In fact, if I wasn't locked into a 2-year contract with my cell phone provider, I'd use this in conjunction with a normal cell phone in order to skip the $240/year data plan. My work, home, and school all have open wifi access, so I really have no need for the over-priced data service. Actually, because 90% of my life is spent at these 3 places, I'd even consider dropping cell phone service altogether and just using Google Voice's free phone service. Come to think of it, even Tyson's Corner shopping mall offers free wifi. (Phone companies beware...Your days of gouging customers are numbered.)

My favorite, must-have apps for Android are as follows:
1) MoboPlayer (free, plays nearly any video that doesn't go beyond the limitations of the hardware; also offers some other advanced features over the built-in player)
2) ES File Explorer (free, works great for browsing / transferring files on Android or shared on PC over wifi; also allows for video streaming and a variety of other features)
3) MortPlayer (free, for playing audio books and listening to recorded lectures, since it offers bookmarks and other handy features)
4) TapeMachine (paid app, but I believe it's the best audio recorder for android. The interface reminds me a bit of Cool Edit, for those familiar with that.)
5) Gmote (free, turns your Android into a remote to play media files on your PC)
6) Netflix
7) JeFit (free, best app I've seen for keeping records of weight-training, including exercises, sets, reps, etc. Plus, you can also record your measurements and body weight, which are displayed in a nice graph)
8) AnyMemo (free, the best flash card app I've found; has an internet search feature to find free sets of flash cards on nearly any topic)
9) aCar (free, for keeping track of automobile gas mileage, oil changes, repairs, etc.)
10) List Master (free / paid, best list app I've found based on my needs for "to-do" projects, groceries, etc.)
11) TuneIn Radio (free version allows access to nearly any radio station in the US)
12) BeyondPod (free podcast app, although I'm not sure it's the best, but it's definitely worked well for me)

So many great apps to mention. These were just a few that I use most often.

Got mine yesterday around noon even though expected delivery was the 26th.

First impression - its big!!

I charged it about 3hrs to get a full battery.

Netflix, youtube look awesome - much better than my 2nd gen Ipod Touch.

Speakers are surprisingly loud.

Touch screen is very responsive - i've seen little to no lag.

I downloaded several apps with no problems. Most are games (angry birds, texas holdem) and they've worked great.

I installed an 8gb microsd card and loaded it with about 1000 songs. It read the card fine but it doesn't show my playlists. Does anyone know if there is a way to transfer playlists on the device?

This is my first android device and I love it.

Anyone from GA?
I'm in GA and it's scheduled to be delivered on the 26th. After I read the comment about receiving the" empty box" I've been very paranoid about my delivery..
Someone says they live in FL and they received theirs. I would think that it would be delivered about the same time frame to GA if it was delivered to someone in FL...

any thoughts?

Edit-----

I'm looking at my tracking page and I find it weird that it says:

It went from Atlanta GA, to Athens GA (Which is the destination point), and then BACK to Atlanta. Why is that?

I have been using an iPod Touch 4th Gen since Dec '10. Apple done a great job of designing this product. However, it is thin and slippery without a cover attached to it. I am afraid of dropping it. So, went online and I bought a cover for it. With the cover on, the iPod Touch looks a bit thicker. The thinness makes hold the device easily. I can understand your excitement over Galaxy's physical size.

I am still waiting for mine to arrive on Sept. 28th. The last FedEx tracking entry was on Sept. 22nd 11pm departing Denver, CO.

Have fun with your new toy.

I got mine on Friday and I'm in Georgia. It was a day earlier than the expected ship date which was Saturday (today).

I still cannot get any apps from the Android Marketplace to download. I hit download and it says download started And then just hangs there with 0 progress. I tried googling about the problem and was reading about An error with Gtalk, something about downloads not working if you aren't logged into Gtalk. I can't login to Gtalk for some reason either. So I don't know if that's the issue or what?

Is there a firmware update or any other software update to do? I looked around and remember seeing a software upgrade needed msg, but I couldn't click on it.

Dolphin IS the browser to experience the true internet. Go to setting and change the agent thing. some videos will be slow, given that they are not optimized for mobile.

A message stating so will appear on top of the videos. So the Youtube and Netflix(w/subscription) applications are a most, the are for android after all.

Just loaded Despicable Me in MKV format @720p (took about 4min.). Plays it no problem. But it is over 2GBs, so I'm on the market for a deal on flash mem.

Woot (or Moofi) please get us a deal on flash memory cards. 32GBs is what I need, Later some ear buds w/microphone, so I can replace my defective Samsung set.

Anyone had any success. The success of this all depends on bluetooth connectivity to a headset.

Can people comment more on the GPS?

There have bveen a few brief comments but nothing in-depth. I am mostly interested in how well the GPS works *without* a data (WiFi) connection - i.e. does it work like a 'regular GPS unit' decently?

If not, one program was suggested already, but in general what are the workarounds? Downloading a map set would be fine to me, as long as I could get routes without an active data connection.

Thanks!

There are a few programs with pre-loaded maps and all cost some money, some rather expensive. My main concern is the fact they all get mixed reviews. Many of the complaints for all the programs center around the fact that updates can sometimes render then unusable, maps are out of date, or they don't play well with certain devices. I'll keep reading reviews and probably will try out any with free trials before ponying up money. Navigon is the most expensive, but it doesn't get uniformly good reviews considering the money it costs. Sygic gets mixed reviews, but I believe a seven day free trial is available. CoPilot has gotten some very positive media reviews, but mixed reviews from users. CoPilot also has more than one version, which is confusing. I also read that CoPilot specifically has had a problem with Samsung Galaxy devices, but they are currently updating it now that they're aware of the problem. I think I'd keep checking back on that one to see if they can get a good update that will make it work better with Samsung devices before I consider it.

I already have a standalone GPS unit and wanted to use this Android device instead as a navigator, but I'm reconsidering selling my Garmin GPS device due to the fact that there seem to be no perfect Android offline GPS programs, at least yet. If nothing else, I'll keep it and use it alongside my new Galaxy to see what the differences are (once I get my Galaxy, of course).

Arrival! FedEx showed the 27th, but I knew it was in my city last night. It was waiting on my stoop when I woke up.

It's like the Galaxy Tab, but smaller, and with the better hardware. (I had the wifi version of that, which had an inferior CPU, and lagged.)

Market didn't auto-download my apps though, like it did on the Asus Transformer, except for Maps and YouTube update, oddly enough.

This is the same width as my Palm TX, just taller, right about the size I wanted. Harder to type than the 7", but not too bad.

Loving it already. Must play more later.

my ipod touch 4g is really disappointing me, which is why I jumped on this deal. No Flash is a killer
My ipad is an even bigger disappoint other than the fact I've jailbroken it to tether it as a hotspot to my Macbook.
My Macbook is a disappointment as I'm Tech Support for a large company and feel much more comfortable in Windows (bootcamp and vmware is working great though)

This will be my first Android - and why not go for this deal as a go between for all my devices?! Right? I'm so excited and can't wait for the 28th

This is actually my best woot deal since my first woot, the $99 Tivo w/manual record! I got a whole 300+ collection of DVDs from that thing after hacking it

Actually, I think the Korean version is the one that has HDMI. The feature that removes all doubt that a unit is the Korean version is the extend-able external antennae at the top corner for Korean TV broadcasts.

I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO HAVE THE TV TUNER ONE. Do you know if Korea still has analog TV? If they have digital air signals, I see no reason to omit this feature from a US version. If ours are Latin american versions, it makes a little sense for it not to have a digital tuner.

Don't see why make so specific versions of the same device. Some thing else is at work here.

All share (Samsung's version of DLNA a wireless streaming protocol) works great with the sample video that came with the galaxy. But it hung with my 720p MKVs. Maybe they are to big (2GB+).

Still waiting on receiving this so I can't be totally sure, but I do believe it says that for two reasons.

1.) Android takes up some space
2.) There is an 'app partition' on android devices, space that is reserved for apps and only apps. The 5GB you're seeing probably doesn't take into account all that space set aside for apps.

But in the end I'm just guessing here, cause my device has spent the past 48 hours in transit to California from Denver.
