Since this is my 13th bag, I thought a trip down memory lane for the other 12 would be good.

My first BOC was in November of 2007 (I actually almost got one earlier that year but didn't know what it was so I didn't bother to order it).

Back then you had to select 3. None of this enter your CCV # and click 2 gold buttons junk you whippersnappers have today.

I didn't label each item with which BOC it came from so please understand if I get them in the wrong order.

Even back then there was a lot of similar items, but I did score an under the counter radio/cd player. Also, there were a lot of Westren[sic] Cowboy Kits. I didn't know cowboys used radios and it had the whiskey bottle for the future alcoholic. It was made by "Fanng toys and powerful, the powerful and funny"

That single item has gotten more attention in my cube than any other toy.

The next time (April 2008 the famous 3 BOC April 1st). I still display the Mother Goose Record proudly.

Since then I've gotten:

  • Yanni in Words
  • Photo frames
  • Slinky Jr
  • Flying Aces model airplane kit
  • Hypochondriac stress pill
  • ? bag (which is now missing)
  • Captain Kirk Vinyl figure
  • Superman Figure
  • Thomas the train figure
  • 1990 Pro Bowl Football Cards

Some stuff was donated such as coloring books to a day care center. Yes I've gotten two Sansa devices as well and I've been shorted on more than 1 occasion. Each time Woot took care of me, even if it was shipping me overnight a paper bag with a ? on it.

For $96 dollars over 4 years, I've had a lot of fun. Have some BOCs been worse than others? Sure. But recently things have been getting better (I mean I did get two bottles of wax and a model airplane once about 2 years ago).

In my time I've seen the rise and fall of Google Docs for tracking as well as the rise of the latest crap tracker. I also learned how to put BOC without it hitting the filters. I've seen happy hour come and go (they never seem to do it anymore) and many many woot-off killers / LOL Cats. The number given away has increased from 1500 @ 3 items/order to approximate 2500, allowing more people to score. I've used woot-off lights (both police and normal) to indicate build status on a nightly build system. I've seen smartpost added, and when they were too fast in the Oregon area, replaced with FedEx home.

So now the score sits:
Woot - Bob
$96 - 12* (13 when this BOC arrives, the April 1st snafu BOC was free)

Woot, thank you for 12 great packages and the memories created, here's to another 12.

Actually it wasn't. This was an April 1st Woot, where they sold a lot of Black and Decker USB batteries. And by a lot, I mean thousands. It was a 1 day Woot-Off for that specifically.

Link to the index page

Note the 40% order rate at 3 PM? That's when they entered the orders of people who got denied due to a bug. They did that the 9th of April.

This last year, on April 1st they did the the crapshoot game. The year before that (2010) they did the adventure crap. In 2009 it was listed at $1,000,000 unless you read the text and entered the correct code, snail.

I don't remember what they did on Woot's birthday, but for the last two years on Christmas, the link for the bag was in the text.

Edit:
Yes, for the adventure, they released a second set, if I recall correctly.

They did do another "pick your own adventure" type thing for Woot's B-day (7/12/11). That was the last Barrels of Crud I got because I knew to just keep clicking links until I got there. It was called "Wootquest: Bullets Over Crimeville" and you can still play it.

First and foremost, you're not dumb. There's some of us who fought and survived these quests. We remember the history because it is seared into our minds and our account history. We've got the battle scars on our credit cards and in our credit reports to prove we won.

People complain about bots now, it used to be simply bad servers. Best I can tell it is all about bandwidth and timing. The "bots" are simply hordes of people trying to get in at the same time. Also since the website is distributed, sometimes it updates in some parts of the country before others. I've been denied more times than I've scored, but that doesn't stop me.

My very first woot was under a different username way back on September 28th, 2004. It was for the Bag O' Crap II. The bags weren't as well known back then so it was actually still up at 6:30am when I checked. I figured what the heck and bought three. It had sold out by the time I got to the office.

I got a handful of priority pucks, an iomega zip disk holder, a fm radio wrist watch that smelled of gasoline and an iomega camera bag that I used for my first DSLR for years. It was a great woot. And there were rumors that someone got a DVD player in their crap. They never lasted that long again.

Look at me... rocking the 21" CRT!

Judging from the order number (10029853) it looks like they've done about 26.5 Million woots since then, averaging almost 10K a day (provided they've used a linear system that hasn't changed).

Woot on!

If we're keeping track, and I am, I'm almost embarrassed to say that this is my 15th bag, since September 2008. Figuring roughly 14 a year are offered (one a month, plus 2 for Woot's birthday and Christmas), and that I pretty much have tried every month since the first one I got, this makes my take rate is 31.3%.

Not too bad, now that I look at it. And no secret sauce for me either, other than being vigilant, being setup in advance, and just lucky, I guess. And mad F5ing (and knowing when NOT to F5).

Among the highlights are:

- Married with Children action figure (Jefferson)
- Hamilton Beach Blender (New, still using)
- Kidsmart smoke alarm
- Polaroid DVR (very broken)
- 30GB Zune Media Player, defective, but replaced new by Microsoft
- 1 each, Spock and Kirk vinyl figures
- Sansa e260 media player
- "I Love Lucy" Salt and Pepper Shaker set (looked like her shoes, of all things)
- Vupoint slide and negative scanner
- Woot Wrist/Headbands
- Texas Instruments eZ-430-Chronos Watch/Development Tool
- Foot Flush

So much other crap as well: bags, wibly fun balls, jumble calendars, sparky toasters, horrible polo shrts, usb dongles of unknown use, and so much more.

Good times around. Can't wait for the next chance to "win".

Yeah, the toaster. Glad I didn't get that. Did you ever see the post about the kitty who got burnt by the toaster? http://www.woot.com/forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=3684133

Remember to be careful when you test out your BOC items. The one who gets hurt may not be you.

I don't remember what they did on Woot's birthday, but for the last two years on Christmas, the link for the bag was in the text.

Edit:
Yes, for the adventure, they released a second set, if I recall correctly.

Was it 2008 when they had the fake woot-off with the all the battery things? And then 4 times throughout the day when the batteries sold out there was a Barrels of Crud and the overall quantity of the 4 Barrels of Crud opportunities added up to 3000ish?

No craps for me this time. I got to the last button but it was not to be. I'm going to watch this thread though, to see if colonelcrap has worked his magic yet.

Yep, remember it well. It was the HomeCookin' 2-Slice Toaster, and caused quite a stir, IIRC. I plugged mine in for about 2 seconds before I realized how dangerous that thing was. Sparks a plenty, and not a in a celebratory 4th of July way.

Right in the garbage with that one. Folk were upset about refurb or cheap appliances and wondering who would be liable. Sad about the kitty, but I'm glad there weren't reports of worse.
