I'm weeping with joy!.. I've tried them both and Sirius is vastly superior. Not only do they have the NFL, NASCAR, and NBA games, but Howard, Bubba, and all the other great channels.

If you're a music only kinda person, yea XM, Sirius, same difference. But if you're looking for overall package value... your $13 is better spent elsewhere.

intersting... i would love one of these... but i don't know... any advice?... well... here's useful links part3... enjoy that.

BizRate's Prices... $19 and up...

Shopzilla's Prices... $19 and up...

MSN Shopping's Prices... $40 and up...

Become.com's Prices... $80 and up...

7.1 rating by CNET experts... which is pretty good...

... so go ahead and get that... if you want it... but remember... shopzilla's list has better prices... though possibly incorrect... check it out to be sure.

I do a daily woot blog where I talk about the woot, link to CSEs, find reviews, etc. A few people have told me it's useful. Google "useful linkage" and there it is.

$39 at Bizrate ($19 from Abe's of Maine is actually $39 when you click thru)

$59 at Sprenzy

Review from Crutchfield... "So if you're looking for a solid performer, but don't want to take up much dash space, I can easily recommend the Roady XT. It's loaded with plenty of features, it's easy to use, and it sounds just fine. Best of all, it comes with a price tag that doesn't inflict much damage on the ol' bank account."

Other recievers... XM starting at $45 or Sirius starting at $40

This discussion is gonna get ugly, kinda like Howard Stern. Go with XM, you'll actually get reception and music channels with the deepest playlists that aren't repetitive and interrupted by awful hacky DJs. Sirus is basically commercial radio without the commercials. You'll hear AC/DC 20 times a day on their metal channels. Howard's washed up, hasn't been relevant for at least 9 years, works four days a week, and takes nearly a month off at a clip for his vacations in the Hamptons. Got XM nearly 2 years ago and it's still the best purchace I've made in that time.

Hmm, I feel it's only right to offer my opinion and experience on this unit...

Having worked for a national electronics retailer that carried this unit, I had to set up the demo display.

First unit I put up there I fired it up and heard this very high frequency whine in the music. Double checking with the built in modulator, it was more noticeable that way. So I took that unit down and put another one up, and it did the same thing...

This was back in February so they *MAY* have fixed this issue.

If you're over 35 your ears probably can't hear the whine anyway...

Also setting the background color to red resulted in the least whining.

Probably something in the CCF backlight pump circuit...

Other than that it's a perfectly serviceable unit for most people!

JUST TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. to all the peepy pooper blooper crowd, WOOT must cringe, but let the truth be known and the chips (even the buffalo and cow chips) fall where they may.

Maybe the next WOOT will truly be great

The programming on XM is far inferior to Sirius.

I mean even if you don't like Stern, the NFL radio coverage is worth it in and of itself. Even if you call the music a wash (it isn't - XM's programming is surprisingly bad for some unknown reason) The NPR broadcasts that are clear as a bell are a nice way to round off the offering.

Nascar switches to Sirius this year and add that to Football and NBA and things just don't look all that compelling for XM. After you get over your three months "free" you will be sorry you started your XM. SPend a couple bucks more and get a real service. You won't regret it.

BTW - This is another sign XM is desperate and likely going out of business. Their financials are a mess and they are going downhill fast.

I wonder how many of you saying XM sucks have actually subscribed to it. Now there's no Howard, but there is a great selection of music, and by most reports, XM is sonically superior...

This is a great deal btw! I bought the XM Roady v1.0 from one of the woot side deals. It was $20 and did not include free activation nor any free months of service.

XM is a great service with some major issues-- I've been a subscriber for about 3 years now and the sound quality has gotten pretty crap. It actually wasn't tooo bad (you wouldn't mistake it for a CD but it was perfectly acceptable) until the beginning of the year, when they started adding channels like crazy... most of the XM music stations now broadcast in the 32kbps-48kbps range, which sounds pretty bad. If you hear a song you love that you have on CD, it may be virtually unlistenable, but it does depend on the station. (Rock/pop tends to get lower bitrate than jazz/classical, for example)

I've become pretty disappointed with XM lately due to this. If you have DirecTV, the XM feeds through that sound infinitely better than what you'll get with a radio. I cancelled my Roady subscription when it came time to renew it cause it was unlistenable in my car. My home setup is a bit better but it's nowhere near as good as it used to be.

Basically, depending on the station, XM sounds somewhere between AM and FM right now. It rarely exceeds FM quality (and yes, I even mean plugged into a home stereo with direct wires, I don't mean the FM modulator). I have kept the 1 receiver active as I do like it, but when XM Online sounds significantly better using 64kbps WMA than the radio I paid for, there's a problem.

Granted, $40 isn't bad, and for some types of people it's a GREAT deal.. but don't go into it thinking you're getting CD (or even 128kbps MP3)-quality sound. It'll sound like dial-up internet radio. I've noticed my listening patterns have gone from all the time at home and in my car, to now mostly only at work, listening to XM Online-- I can't handle the quality drop of the radios anymore. :/ But if you're in your car a LOT, if you want a lot of sports channels, if you're not picky about sound quality (Think of it as quantity over quality), it's a great service. I'm holding on with my one subscription hoping it gets better again..

(and apparently Sirius has its own quality issues, so it's not like satellite radio is where you should go if you're an audiophile)
