I had a lot of fun!
I'm anxious to see what everyone got!
For those of you that have gotten a Birthday of Celebrations before, what's usually in them? This is my first!
Are they usually 8 bucks?
They are traditionally $3 + $5 for shipping. This time they are $8 + $5 shipping, but the shipping was waived. I hope that means Woot has invested a little more in the quality of the crap.
To be honest, Birthday of Celebrations were, if not better, at the very least more interesting before Woot was bought out by Amazon. I once received a box full of "broken" Sansa MP3 players (ah, the days when Woot was THE PLACE for refurb Sansas). After a little fiddling, I got five of them to work, not bad for $8. The last couple of Birthday of Celebrations I snagged were a little underwhelming, so I stopped chasing them. (I did love the Backpack of Crap from last year.)
In the days of yore, a couple of people would get the coveted letter telling them to expect a special package by freight delivery, which often turned out to be a big flat-screen TV when those were still pretty expensive. But times change, inventories written down after the 2008 collapse are sold off, and funky sites like the old Woot become part of the Amazon machine.
My advice: Keep your hopes high but your expectations low. Just remember you could have spent the $8 on Powerball tickets and probably get nothing back. At least Woot is going to send you something....
