"Sateen" does not equal "satin", nor does it mean "shiny" (at least not as a rule). I have several sets of quality sateen sheets, and they aren't shiny. They're actually velvety, for lack of a better word. The one thing that I don't like about them is that if I have any rough skin on my feet, I know it because it feels like it almost snags the sheets. I absolutely don't need any more sheet sets, but with single-ply thread, Egyptian cotton, at 500 thread count, I'm having a hard time resisting these, both for myself and as gifts for family members who sleep on unacceptably yucky sheets, IMO.

Very rarely have regrets about a purchase on Woot but sadly this is one of them. Beware, these are not worth the money. And they are not sateen as advertised.

Yes, I agree-- it's my feeling as well that they are not sateen. Good sateen sheets should have a sheen when seen from an angle; these do not. They don't feel soft like a good sateen should. The retail packaging doesn't mention sateen-- it's a selling point, you'd think they would. The packaging doesn't mention ply count either. If you got it, why not put it on the packaging??

So far I'm not thrilled. It's easy enough to buy non-sateen sheets for a better price than this. I was hoping for a good price on something better than a basic sheet.

I can agree with your regrets-- right now I'm wishing I had gone for the 700TC Amazon deal that pcspecialist mentioned.

I haven't had a chance to wash them & try them-- too many non-fun things going on for the past month-- maybe I'll like them better then.
