You hold onto the handles keeping it infront of you/slightly below you and it pulls you forward.

these things are really fun anywhere, even if all you have access to is a large pool. I've done obstacle courses with these, so its worth it.

They are of course even better when actually in open water and of course lots of fun.

Yes, depending on how big your pool is. I used ours in a decently sized inground pool with shallow/deep end. I was actually able to do vertical loops in the deepend with them before one of them died.

Looks like a prototype underwater dirty bomb or some damn thing. Gotta pass on this one.

I imagine the silicone ring is to seal up some part of the unit. Perhaps the main body of the unit. The lubricant would be to use on the silicone ring so it doesnt dry out and crack. Pretty common setup in anyhitng designed to operate underwater.

taking a carribean cruse? a trip to Cozumel or St.Thomas... this is great for scubadudes & fillies. But the imagination wanders to the clear springtime waters of Hippie Hollow and the view from the bottom up comes mind also...

Decent price too.

150 watts is almost in the kid territory... they get larger, for about 40 more you can get its big brother for $159... same color too and 250 watts. These are really fun people/

Why not? There's really no appreciable change in density of the water between 15 and 98 feet. Any difference would be overcome by the fact that your body will be more compressed (seeing as you're experiencing around 2.5 extra atmospheres of pressure at bottom depth) and therefore easier for the scooter to pull through the water.

Avg pressure seizes the motor under the conditions.

Many say it's good for scuba. Is it really? How loud is it? I'm worried about scarying underwater critters away.

Do you suppose that it uses a rudder for steering or would it actually angle the entire motor? Seems like the former would be more mechanically sound

This is the perfect toy to play out all those James Bond fantasies! I could have my martini (shaken, not stirred) at one end of the pool, and with my make shift spear gun, I could attack all the toys floating in the pool. When I know for a fact that all of SPECTERS' (okay I am confusing things with the Man from Uncle, hey, I am taking creative liscense, okay?) pool toys are sunk, i can make my way to the end of pool for refreshments. If I am lucky maybe my wife and some her girlfriends will be over and I can be exceptionally charming knowing of course they are really the enemy, but i won't let on that I know that of course.

This is so cool.

you just point it. They actually work really well that way. I think using a rudder system would be too complicated, whereas this is pretty intuitive.

Just think about this though - "Flood" is now a 17 year old album. Makes you feel kind of ancient, doesn't it? Ah yea, my DECO StingRay Water Scooter will carry me safely back to land just after the flood (had to keen it slightly on-topic SOMEHOW).

For many recreational divers DPVs are not useful. Buoyancy control is vital for diver safety: the DPV has the potential to make buoyancy control difficult and cause barotrauma if the diver ascends or descents under power. Navigation in visibility of less than 5 metres using a DPV could be difficult. Also, many forms of smaller marine life are very well camouflaged or hide well and are only seen by divers who move very slowly and are very vigilant. (WIKI)

Yes if it opperated the same at depth as it does at 15 feet. A lot of underwater toys don't like presure. Those disposable under-water cameras will take pictures pretty deep, but you can only wind them in 15 feet or less. Just wonder how this behaves? I guess if it's rated to 98 feet it will do ok.

Does anyone know how much noise this thing makes? If I were, say, snorkeling around a reef with this thing, would I scare all the fish off way before I got to them?

Other than that, this thing looks pretty cool. It's no Sub-bug, and it surely doesn't compare to riding a manta ray, but I'm sure it would be a fun time.

Well, when you drag 100 keys of lard through water for 90 minutes, it takes a wee bit of energy. Gotta store it somewhere. And gotta release it some how.

At least we can definitively answer the typical "20 Questions" question:
Q. - Is it smaller than a bread box?
A. - No!
