wow, what a great idea. I've been saying that software should come packaged on USB drives or camera memory cards for a longgg time. Faster access than CDs, and write ability make it a great idea.

6/1/2007 -- Gypped by the Box of Cobwebs
5/31/2007 -- Memorex 16X DVD+-/RW Dual Layer USB2 & Firewire Drive (qty 1)
5/10/2007 -- GN Netcom GN9120 Wireless Headset Bundle (qty 1) (lifter broke, working on exchange)
9/25/2006 -- Jensen 300 Watt 2 Outlet Power Inverter (qty 1) (this thing ROCKS!)
7/15/2006 -- 3.5” USB 2.0/FireWire External Aluminum Case (qty 2) (these things SUCK!)

No, you can use this software for as many people as you want. However, I believe if you want to E-file it is a separate cost for each tax return.

Wow. This is truly an innovative way to distribute software. Bye bye CD's, welcome to the wirld of flash drive software! It's too bad I got the jump on things and already filed my taxes (and got my return), or I would be all over this.

And for all you damn kids that are all like "i dont pay taxes this is crap" or "what are these 'taxes'?" this woot is obviously not intended for you. Quit complaining. This is actually very useful for all of the responsible sdults of the world.

The description says that no other software helps with an audit. That is not really true; Turbo tax will -if- you purchase the service for 40. Is this also a for purchase service, or is that audit guy crammed into the twenty dollars?

quality posts: 0 Private Messages snowman325i

It does say that you have audit protection and the H&R rep will show up with you in the event of an audit. I too shall stick with my CPA, but this looks like a really good deal. Also I think it would be a great purchase for those who wait until the last minute. You don't wanna be at H&R or Jackson Hewitt the week before April 15th...LOL

Is this worth it? Does it include the filing fee (no additional fees)? I might could use this...

Hah.

Amazon has the 2GB Kingston of this for $24.99

Edit: Just the drive that is...not the filing software =X

I'm not very familiar with tax software packages. I already have something I can use for this year; is there any chance this will still be useful for next year?

Thanks in advance.

And if it is good for only one state, how does it know what state you want to use? Only eFiles for one or what?

I've heard that some softwares have extra charges for e-filing or other options. Is this like that? I've got very simple taxes, but I havent done them yet and this the first year I'm not a dependant. Good for me?

This is a pretty decent deal... I work for turbotax technical support.. and after dealing with some of the morons that are not able to operate DOORS, yet think they can use a COMPUTER to do their TAXES... Oh man, have I got some horror stories for you.

Btw, if you prefer TT, doing your federal and state online is 25 bucks as well (cept you don't get the gimmicky 256 mb flash drive).

Nope, only the Federal+State+Efile version includes the filing fee, but it's normally like $59 or so (but can be found cheaper occasionally) so it's not really any better than this. (I believe it's $16 for each Efile, state and federal)

if it was a 1 gig drive it would be worth it, but 256....sorry. I did my taxes with Taxact and it was free. Washington does not have state income tax though. Don't know if Taxact has a Fed. and State free program

Been using TaxCut for the last 7 years. First couple of years were difficult, but they've come a long way. With kids, a house, an IRA, and a part-time home business, we've always done pretty well. We actually went to H&R one year, and were pretty disappointed.

Already bought it this year and filed, so can't take advantage of this one, but it's a killer deal. If you price this out in the stores, it's pretty pricey.

Yes, you can use it next year, as long as the tax code doesn't change between now and then. Oops, too late. The long distance telephone excise tax refund won't be here next year.

That's ribs, it's a kingston flashdrive. I've got their 2gb version. It's pretty small and feels plenty durable in case anyone wanted to know.

There is a different install per state. Just choose the state you are in and it will install that program. Idiot proof...

It's good for every state. You probably have to download your states version. This is probably just the federal version on the flash drive, BUT it has credit for the state version so you won't have to pay for it.

No Kidding. This is Woot, where we waste our days at work hitting reload waiting for a Bandolier of Carrots during Woot Offs.

Here I am thinking I'm way ahead of the game getting this ordered in late Feb and the threads are full of people crapping on it cause it's too late. ;)

After you install the Federal version you download a copy of your State program though the Federal program. One copy of any state is free. Been using Taxcut for 7 years and I think it's great.

One year I tried both brands of tax preparation software, I found TaxCut a little easier (it asked less questions) and less expensive than the other brand, and I have been using it ever since. Both gave the same answer, so why not. Maybe all those questions the other brand kept asking would be nice for others, but they did not pertain to me.

But alas, this offer is too late for me.

You can use this software for 19.95 on https://taxes.hrblock.com to file your federal and state taxes, but if you want to pay $5.05 extra for a 256mb thumb drive this is your day!

Forty bucks elsewhere, and they don't give you another dongle to add to the collection. I'm in for two. And I think this might bump me up to being Better Than Everyone Else? I see a lot of black squares lately, though -- when does the 50+ status symbol come out, Woot?

that being said, i am already pirating better tax software this year, i can pay less money and get a thumb drive of higher capacity elsewhere.

Wow that's a lot less than I paid. To bad I got my taxes done already. Usually I wait until April 14th to start so I thought getting done early was a good thing. Now I find out if I wait you could find it on Woot for less.
