An HD Tuner is practically useless. You would only be able to pick up over air HD signals with bunny ears. Just get an hd box from your cable provider. They are about $3 more a month than the regular one you have now

First sentence -> idiotic.
Second sentence -> What does that mean? Are you saying you can only get just HD signals ota? Wrong. Are you saying you can only use "bunny ear" type antennas to get HD or SD signals? Wrong.
Third sentence -> You have no idea what someone's cable rates are. For instance, the difference for me is $12 or so w/taxes.

You just ASSUMED he was talking about an HD tuner, when he said "no tv tuners" which could mean a tuner to the tune of NTSC, ATSC, QAM, etc. I wish you people would quit assuming that everyone has a digital cable/sat box. There are people out there that have 1) no cable/sat or 2) basic cable.

Why on earth would you buy a flat screen TV and have basic cable, let alone watch it over the air?
I love my On Demand and channels. Discovery HD, PBS, MTV, HBO etc.

Only a couple good shows worth watching over the network. The Office and House.

In case anyone else is interested, it says in the manual, that the response time for the 1920x1080 resolution is 60hz.

I bought one. I am going to be using it as the TV in my living room. Since I have a cable box and don't ever see myself having just "basic" cable, not having a tuner isn't a concern to me. Getting a 1080p tv for $1k is a hell of a deal and prob gonna buy a bluray player off eBay since i checked and a lot are below PS3 prices now. Can' wait to get the TV and who knows maybe someday I'll get soemthing new and use this as my PC monitor lol

Items I've wooted!

Hmm I don't know.. Probably like 12-20 feet depending where I am sitting in the living room lol. Right now I have a 36" Sony television which weighs about 300 lbs. It's a good tv but probably put that in the spare bedroom or sell it to someone cheap

Wow.
You should have gone witha bigger set at that distance. Especially 1080p.
You should be getting a 60 inch or higher.

Move your couch close when watching movies, you will enjoy it much better

Maybe i'll bust out the folding chairs for movie night haha! I'm thinking about wall mounting this but have to look into how to hide the cables and wires and all that jazz. Not sure how big of a chore that will be to do but that would let me arrange furniture a lot more without having a tv stand taking up room.

In practice that's your maximum refresh rate, 125Hz. For movies that would be 60Hz. And for those thinking 1080i signal isn't as good as 1080p, it is, both are constructed from same 1080p signal that is at 24Hz rate (frames per second). So if a signal is 1080i60 and the deinterlacer can correctly process it, there is no difference between 1080i and 1080p signal (but there is between 1080i (CRT) and 1080p (digital) monitor).

I personally can't stand the colours on a plasma (among other disadvantages), and the poor black levels of LCD so for me DLP is the best choice. Absolutely stunning colours and picture quality on my 61" 1080p set with HD-DVD. Much better than on my 720p LCD FP. Of course DLP has it's disadvantages, like crushed blacks but overall it's the second best PQ after CRT. Pricing is the frosting on the cake, 61" DLP 1080p can be had for less than $2000.

A CRT monitor has a refresh rate. An LCD monitor does not.

In a CRT monitor each "pixel" has to be refreshed because it starts dimming as soon as the electron beam passes it. The refresh rate is how often it can be kept lit up. In LCD monitors, each "pixel" stays lit until it's told to produce a different color or turn off. So no refreshing is needed. For LCD, your only concern is the response time.

For the comment above, that surprises me on not liking plasma colors. It uses the same technology for color that CRT monitors use. Specifically, they use the same phosphors as CRT screens. I personally found plasma to look the most natural when I was shopping (just too expensive). I'd agree on the LCD comment, but I still went with one for the size/weight advantage it has over any of the others.

Nice namecalling, shows your maturity. Anyways, I have owned several sets, both FP's and TV's, and I have calibrated many more sets for friends and their friends, both audio and video. I just don't care for the colours on a plasma, on those sets that I have setup, they have the same look as DLP's have on their blacks. Reminds me of paintings, not picture.

All things considered, DLP is the way to go but I still put CRT on the top of the list. There is nothing better than a TOTL 9" CRT FP on 100"+ screen. LCD takes over the #3 spot just because of price issues and the problems plasmas have but I do like plasma better as far as PQ goes. Sony's LCOS displays are pretty damn good, on par with Samsung's DLP's but again, price...

#1 CRT
#2 DLP
#3 LCD
#4 Plasma

I think he is putting us on, anyone who has ever just looked at a DLP cannot believe this. A DLP display is obviously poor compared to LDC or Plasma flat panel TV’s (CRT’s are quite good though). The only reason that they sell is that they are initially cheaper to purchase.

Personally I didn't buy this to be my TV; I bought it to be a gaming monitor. So it not having an internal tuner was a major plus for me, as it would have been just a waste of money. Its combination of resolution, inputs, size, and price put it ahead of the competition.

And for those of you that have done some research on large(27"+) wide screen LCD gaming monitors know that for the 'price' Dell and Westinghouse have been the leading choices.

For a while now I've had my eye on the Dell 2707WFP (27" @ 1920x1200, ~$1300) and 3007WFP (30" @ 2560x1600, ~$1500); both have 1000:1 contrast ratio and 8ms response time (same as Westinghouse).

So when I compared the Dells to the Westinghouse (google it), to me it was clear which monitor was the best overall (features/price). The 27" Dell was too small, the 30" Dell's resolution was too high (yes too high for gaming, it would have required a BEAST of a Video Card to give playable FPS); neither of the Dell's have the plethora of inputs that Westinghouse has (Component/HDMI for 360/PS3).

This was a great woot, and for all of those who've complained and bitched about not having a tuner or 1000:1 contrast ratio, look at the other side, maybe its not the best TV, but its one hell of a gaming monitor.

Thanks again woot, at least one wooter got exactly what he wanted, and the refurb (rox0rz!) saved me a couple hundred $.

P.S. The only other monitor I would have purchased would have been the 37" Westinghouse (LVM-37W3); its a great choice for a monitor for those humbled by the 42".

Some people just don't care about tv, I only have the digital services with a local cable company because its free as a complimentary service. Most everything I watch is in the expanded basic area. Not uncommon to have hundreds of channels, and still not a damn thing to watch.
