Got mine yesterday... didn't have batteries until today, doh! I must say, for the price I woot'd this thing for, it was a steal. I couldn't tell mine wasn't new other than the R-E-F-U-R-B stamped on the back. I very soon discovered that the "sound effects" suck out loud. I disabled all of them and just set the EQ. Sounds great now. I even like the earbuds. Too bad I bought the Razer's during the last Woot Off.

Also, it appears that if your unit doesn't already have a version 2.x firmware, you are stuck with the latest version of the 1.x firmware, which is what I have. So far, so good. All my ID tags were accurately recognized and it's a breeze to navigate by artist/album. Didn't even bother to crack the "manual". Good Woot.

Edited to add: I also installed a Patriot 2GB SD card and it was immediately recognized and readily accepted my drag and drops. Just under $20 to my door from Newegg.

My cat's breath smells like cat food.

There appears to be no way to fasten the armband to the actual mp3 it simply straps it against your arm which is mediocre at best...

Anyone else smarter than me?

You put the player in the plastic thingy so the ports align with the holes. Close the two snaps at the top. Put the strap against the outside of case so that the velcro is facing the player, close the last snap over it. Thread the end of the strap through the plastic loop so that the player is facing out. You'll have the strap looped so that the velcro pieces face each other, you can put your arm inside the loop, and tighten it down.

Just got mine today. Listening to it as I write this post....groovin'! For a cheap mp3 player it's great. Wish it would do playlists, but at least you can drill down to artists and albums (better than my last woot sandisk mp3 player.) I have confirmed that it DOES not remember where it left off on a track. Oh well, I'll cut those podcasts into 2 minutes segments again (maybe 3: it has ff and rw!) You gotta love mp3splt (werkz in windoze too.)

I turned off the WOW stuff as well. Wasn't worthy of it's namesake. I also seem to have the 1.x firmware. Even though I installed firmware via the 2.x download,, under info in my player it still says 1.x. So what's the perks with 2.x. Anyone know?

didn't see anyone answer this one so you may be getting this information twice.

it won't play folders. you can make it play artists and albums though: menu->play music->album/artist/etc. pick the one you want and press the enter button again. mp3 id tags must be accurate for this to work.

This was my second woot!. Got mine yesterday. DOESN'T WORK.. will not power on.
- new battery (facing correct way).
- held power button in for oodles of time.
Nuthin.

I've read woot FAQ and have written to them. I will also contact SanDisk but based on prior posts, I don't have high hopes.

I'm not too happy with the woot policy that customers have to pay return shipping for DEFECTIVE merchandise. Unethical at best.

I just got mine yesterday. Worked fine the first time I loaded songs onto it; now, however, I get error messages on my computer saying that the device disk is corrupted and unreadable. I e-mailed WOOT and got a response from customer service within 15 minutes directing me to SanDisk's website to download their "disk recovery tool". I downloaded the software, ran it and received a message stating that the device could not be recovered. Sent another e-mail to WOOT. Waiting on a response now. Wow, what a disaster my first WOOT and first refurb (rox0rz!) experiences have been. Never again on the refurb (rox0rz!) situation. Will give WOOT another shot at it given their extremely fast response to my e-mail.

This is my first woot and my first mp3 player. I purchased a 2g Sandisk SD card from Rat Shack for $30. Last night, I loaded 774 songs onto this e140 without any problems at all. Its running on a rechargeable energizer.

I am completely and totally satisfied. Great little gadget.

The original email referred to my order of the Sansadisk MP3 player on 4/13. I've been checking the community forums (as suggested by the site) and appear to be the only one who has not atleast received notification of shipment. I checked my card statement and the payment went through. I was just looking for a status update as my account info is still in the "Everything Went Smoothly" stage. I checked my email address in the account and it is entered correctly there. If you have any information it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all your help-

Does anyone know if there is a way to reorganize your songs on this device yourself? I am a bit annoyed that I can drag an album to it but the player organizes the songs of that album alphabetically. That causes problems for songs that should be listened to sequentially such as in a musical.

I think you can rename the songs witha number like 001 song title, 002 song title that should have them play in number order if that makes sense

Mine is default sorting by song title first. This one is going to be my workout player (so I don't muck up my 20G hard drive Dell while running) and I'm not concerned about track order, so I'm just putting it in shuffle mode and leaving it there. So far, at least, it's not kicking back to the beginning of the shuffle when I power up.

The Fedex lift my 3 Sandisk MP3 players front of the door. And when I can home the package was not there. I am just cannot believe this.
Why do Fedex just left it there? Has it happened to anyone? don't they not leave to package there, when there is no one is home. Besides, I live in High rise apartment building. (

That livedigitally review linked is talking about the e130, while we have the e140. I did not read any further.

Has anyone tried the procedure described?

I'm listening to one of mine, by the way, on FM. Nice!! Sound quality is pretty good, not as good as on my iRiver H10, but it will do at this price!

Favorites are made by holding down the middle (round) button. Holding the bottom button lets you set a repeat within a track.

It seems that the firmware versions are equilivant in functionality, so am going to leave it at 1.0.0.10a, unless there is a problem.

Well, I gotta say this player is a great deal for $30. Sound quality is actually quite good, maybe those reviewers who panned the SQ had the SRS still on. It seems to handle the battery life deal pretty well, as I still have 75-80% left on a rechargable after loading about 10 CD's, deleting that PR stuff, and then playing it for about 6 hours.

It's small and light, so it's easy to stick in a pocket, and the interface is intuitive. I have no problem whatsover with the scroll wheel.

And the drag and drop deal makes loading and deleting music easy and quick. Add in the unlimited capacity with SD cards and this baby is a winner.

I'm putting this on my list of all time best woots!

Well I got mine yesterday, and I am a bit bugged... I have had a Sansa m230 for over a year, worked fine usually until the screen cracked. Was ready to upgrade to more than a half gig anyway. So I jumped at this $30 value, for up to 3G of space, & still handling subscription tracks.
Bummer though, when I connected to Rhapsody, which 'recognized' it as an "Apple iPod"!
Clicking around brought me to the SanDisk site which offered to sell me an e140, but not to help with one already bought. Napster recognized it as a player of sorts, but wouldn't transfer subscription tracks unless I bought them.
After reading these posts I thought to check my Version... 1.1.010. Some of you seem to have 2.0. Perhaps I can update?
Meanwhile I am using it for podcasts, especially www.acousticli.com, top acoustic podcast on iTunes. I get em straight from their own site. Tried an SD card from my camera, computer recognized it right away. So as it stands, I can load stuff directly into it as if it were a hard disk, bypassing the music services, as long as it's not a subscription track.

Other reason to think I have an earlier version: no FM radio included!

I have, didn't go looking for the drivers mentioned, but followed the rest. I'm now running with firmware version 2.0.001 A. It has made quite a difference in how fast it starts up, it doesn't take as long to check for changes in the content as with version 1. Using it with a 1.0GB disc that I'd used with the Rio Forge before it crashed, it always checks the external disc.

The FM isn't incredibly obvious, you go into Menu, then Modes, and it's an option there. Setting up presets now...

DO get and install the Creative mass drivers first, or you're in for some frustration, as the "Recovery Mode" won't show during the upgrade install, and, well, it won't upgrade.
Apparently the folks with success that didn't must have had them installed before, and just didn't realize it...

That's entirely possible. I'd done the upgrade to 1.whatever earlier, before upgrading again to 2.something..

Someone asked how to have the player organize the songs not alphabetically: fill in the ID3v1 information. If you use Winamp, you can just right click a song and hit view file info and fill track numbers in. You can probably do it in iTunes too but I stay away from that program like the plague.

Anyway, I've had it for about a week and its been just awesome. I actually like the headphones, especially with the 'wow' effect - if the headphones are in your ears far enough, you'll get great bass out of it. Great for my second woot.

I think you just go to menu>play music>Album>play all then it will play the songs in order as they are listed rather than alphabetically. That seems to work for me. However, if that doesn't work then you may need to edit your mp3 tags with an editor.

Got mine Friday. Small problem in that I can't select or change the radio station on the FM tuner. I read the manual, and can't find an answer. Maybe the FF side of the SELECT button is broken? Do I have a defective one?

ETA: I purchased 3 of these, and all have the same problem. Am I alone on this, or has anyone else had this issue?

I got mine on Saturday (first woot!), and the player seems to be working fine. I had a couple problems adding a few select MP3s (I got an error saying something like "could not write to the directory). This seems to only be working with a few MP3s, so it's not a huge deal.

However, one issue I've found is that when I have my player set to shuffle through every song on the player, I cannot select a song via Artist -> Album -> Song while remaining in the "shuffle all" mode. Whenever I play a song in an album, the player decides that I only want to listen to the songs on that particular album, and I have to go back to playing "all songs." Is there any way to get around this?
