I get mine at Meritline for $10 shipped. They sell Kingston and a few other brands.

So as a beginner, is this good for me? I've always wanted something to listen to at poker tournaments. How does this work exactly? Download from the internet directly to this? And does it automatically have memory or do I NEED to purchase a memory card?

Thanks for any feedback and help with my first post!

Honestly, I always recommend iPods - the nano's are cheap, durable and easy to learn. They work with Windows or Mac (caveat: with iTunes). They play MP3, audible and stuff bought on iTunes, the largest legal digital music store...

This would work, but pretty much any MP3 player for windows requires more, well, tech. More geeking around with menus, more configuring software, etc. My g/f *hated* the thought of a Mac, but she LOVED my iPod (and still uses her Windows XP laptop).

My advice? Play with them and see which one you like before you make the purchase and feel committed.

The 1GB capacity is built in. An SD card would add to that (increase total capacity)

Edit: I do think this would be good for a beginner, as my dad was able to figure out how to work it. I always try to push people for creative products before apple.

To anyione who has this. How would you classify the quality of the voice recorder? Can it be used for high quality music reocording too? I want to do both.

I read up on chipsets used in the new mp3 mp4 players. The Sigmatel 3507 chipset is used to

1. charge internal battery
2. voice recording
3. mp3 playback
4. mp3 encoding of recorded voice - some models of theh chipset
5. color screen support
6 meory support inc. hard drive / ide support

look up the chipset Sigmatel 3507 (optional)
if you want to read more - some options are not available if the mfg didn't put
a connection on the unit for the option .. hard disk support is not usually offered for example.

And I'll state, to be fair, that Creative is probably the best for those in the PC world. See my earlier posts on SanDisk quality standards, and read the not-so-tongue-in-cheek Woot description that likens them to drug dealers...

And then go look up information on what their branded SD cards cost, THEN check the price of the *same* SD cards, but in white and marketed specifically for the Wii. Disgusting.

If it's a choice between SanDisk and Creative, Creative wins every time, IMHO.

I own the 512 mb model, its great. sounds good, durable. You can drag and drop any mp3 onto it. I have heard alot of bad things about the ear buds, i think they are great. They are the only buds that i have found I can wear while mowing grass, they eliminate background noise, and sound good. I find that the Ipod buds are uncomfortable, and hurt my ears after awhile, but these always feel great. the plastic case that is provided sucks. It takes an AAA battery, and seems to last forever. AND..toss in a 2 gb sd card. holy moly, lot-a-songs. Great Woot. F -all you haters with your 30 gb players, i toss this bitch around like the 30 bucks i spent for it, it takes a beatin, but always sings to me.

I don't think Woot is an authorized Apple reseller. That said, if a great deal on a MacMini came up, it'd probably be my first "I Bought Three!" - even if refurb (rox0rz!)!

OOh, sweetie, PM me for my address. My g/f won't mind - there's room for three! And we won't care if it's Apple or not... AND we have an extra 512MB version of this player lying around you are free to use when we're not otherwise busy (checking for woot-off's of course!)!

Those headphones aren't used. They're pre-owned! Much better!

This MP3 player is so upscale that they've actually been field-tested by another human being before delivery. Now that's the kind of extra service that most companies charge extra for. But for you, we'll perform this luxury service, and give you a discount on top of it! How can you refuse this incredible offer??!?

They look more like ear plugs to me than ear phones and relax, I'm sure they were sprayed with something before being repackaged!

Drop these at a crime scene - someone else's DNA is now there! Then go spend the $5 for another pair of cheap earbuds, and you just got reasonable doubt for $5!

My advice NEVER use an DAP to try and get high quality music recording done. There is a reason why ProTools and Studio Quality Mics, Preamps, Mixers and other Equipment is Expensive.

Edit: Not just advice. If you're looking to record tracks for something like a demo absolutely NEVER use a DAP.

I have a more upscale Sansa (the e270, when Sansa finally figured out how to make ribs looking players with a good UI that just wasn't a copy of the iPod.) Very easy to use. Doesn't work with iTunes software or the AAC format, but blame Apple for that. MediaMonkey does the trick for me.

If I didn't already have an MP3 player, I'd get in on this.

Not for all. ITunes service is a real stickler for ONLY using their IPOD. Now, there are ways to convert ITunes to mp3... but that is another story. Otherwise, if it is an mp3 or a wma, it should play it! : )

(P.S. I have one without the sd expansion and I love it! Not a high end but it is still quite nice!)

MP3 Novice question.

1. Can one load in MP3s from our own files not purchased through I Tunes or other type services?

2. My friend believes her IPod can only use music bought from I Tunes so she could not add any of my MP3 files. Is this true?

As far as SD cards go...

2GB Kingston SD for $10 to -$0.05(depending on if you can use GCO with the rebate)
LINKY to card
LINKY to Rebate

$5 off $50 for new customers for buy.com

And the $10 off using Google Checkout...

Or you can just newegg
Patriot 2GB SD $14.99+$4.99 shipping
LINKY

*edit*
I had a 512 Sansa like this model. I liked it. It worked well until the car wreck trashed it.

I also currently have one of the bone shaped Sansa 1GB players(the ones that work with subscription music). Again we like it.

Never had problems with either of them. I use rechargeable batteries but it's great knowing that if it dies on a trip I can stop and get another pack for cheap.

I'm rather pondering picking this one up as a second one to trash.
