Hope you enjoy it, it was the least I could do, after calling you an ID10T! (Besides, it didn't cost me anything.)

I think that Jason could see through that. I don't think RMSKOUSON even lives in the greater Phoenix area. Maybe I'll google the name. Yes, I do have a second name, but it is skou. (I had a credit card expire.)

When you sign up, you have to use a credit card, and also give an address. I think if Jason saw 2 different people using the same address, he'd put 2 and 2 together.

Different IP addresses as well, different sides of the country and they don't appear to be spoofed IPs either.

I was kinda wondering that too... might spring for the network card if I knew it would work with my existing PC network, but there's no way I'd pay over $1200 for a proprietary PC box to clutter up my kitchen.

On the other hand.. it would be nice to examine the whole system setup in detail... people always joke about what would happen if your fridge or microwave caught a computer virus and/or crashed... I think Salton may be bringing us from fantasy to reality. I can't wait for some script kiddie and go around hacking people's coffee machines to make them switch from regular to decaf and vice-versa Smile

Can I ask a general question as a first time poster? Why are the times on the posts listed as "today at 11pm" when it's only 617pm on the East Coast and Woot is based in Texas?

Thanks in advance!

1) just so you know, there should be a thread somewhere on the "everything else" forum for asking questions like this...

2) to answer the question: look in your preferences to set your local time zone, then the post times will appear correct.

Wow! Ebrusky.... how to express my gratitude? I guess I'll start by sharing my whine, cheese and toddler recipes. I mean, whine and cheese FOR toddlers, of course... oh, damn, there's no way out of this one that sounds less bad. And now I'll have a Big Brother microwave keeping track of whether I feed the dog to the kid or vice versa. Hmmmm. These are the things you don't consider in the heat of the contest excitement.

Gonna be fun. More important, it's gonna be more ways to procrastinate, Official and Important ways no less.

I wonder if it works with macs, or will I have to dust off the XP pc? (gotta do that for the Slingbox I haven't gotten around to installing yet, anyway.

Thanks again, E. Will you see this? Hope so!

I'm willing to post a review, and, on a needs scale, I probably rank up there:

My wife and I have 5 kids that we support all on my meager income. Our microwave is dying--it was a Christmas present to me in 1990 and is well past it's expected life cycle. Of my 5 kids, the oldest is 8 and the youngest is 9 months. Our microwave gets used a LOT and like I said earier, it is dying.

As such, if anyone feels generous and would like to hook me up, I'd appreciate it.

Al

P.S. I had aspirations to be a writer, but never saw it through. However, my literary skils (ie. review) would be well written and factual.

<strong>READ THESE RULES CAREFULLY!</strong> </p>
<p>Remember how Tom Sawyer conned his friends into whitewashing his fence by pretending it was a blast? Well, we’ve got something similar in mind! Welcome to our first Woot Product Review Bonanza, where you get to do our work of reviewing a product for us while we spend the afternoon at the racetrack! Scientists and theologians agree that you’ll never do anything more fun than reviewing a product for Woot. And it’s not just about fun: you get to keep the product you review! This episode, we bring you the <a href="http://www.beyondconnectedhome.com/products/microwave.html">Beyond™ Smart Microwave Oven</a> – totally FREE, with two conditions: </p>
<p>1) You use the microwave for a while, come back here, and give us a frank, honest review. If you hate it, let us know what you hate about it (though if you love it, they’d like to hear that, too). This is part of a new product-testing program that we’re working on with some of our suppliers, so we’d need you to tell us the brutal truth, not just blow sunshine up our butts. We’ll give you more details with your microwave. If you take the microwave and don’t review it for us, expect us to hound you with increasingly impolite emails. Ultimately, remember: we know where you live… </p>
<p>2) Here’s the hard part: in the next post on this discussion board, we are going to show you a satellite photo. Where is it? What is its relevance to this giveaway? The first person to identify it by sending me a PM will win a <a href="http://www.beyondconnectedhome.com/products/microwave.html">Beyond™ Smart Microwave Oven</a>. What’s more, the winner gets to choose one other participant in this discussion to receive a microwave and review it for us. </p>
<p>When a winner for one photo is announced, we will show you another photo immediately – same deal. We’ll show you five photos in total. You can only win once. </p>
<p><strong>HOW TO ENTER:</strong> </p>
<ul>
<li><strong>Send me a private message with your guess.</strong> You can do that by clicking on the “pm” button at the bottom of this post. This is extremely important!</li>
<li>If you post your answer in the forum discussion but don’t PM me, you will not get credit for it! Plus, somebody else could steal your answer and PM me first. Feel free to discuss the contest here, but give the answer away at your own risk. </li>
<li>Put your answer in a format like this: "#3 – Sioux City, SD - home of the Sioux City Microwaves hockey team" – got it? Which picture, where it is, why it’s relevant. </li></ul>
<p>Wake your co-workers, call your grandma, alert the authorities. I’ll post the first picture in five minutes. Flex your Google muscles and get ready to hunt! A <a href="http://www.beyondconnectedhome.com/products/microwave.html">Beyond™ Smart Microwave Oven</a> hangs in the balance! </p><br/>

Perhaps I'm being uncaring, but I have to wonder. If someone has a "meager income" perhaps they should have a number of offspring fewer than five. I consider myself pretty liberal, but in this matter I can't seem to understand people.

I have to admit, your post did its job, I feel sorry for you in my heart, but my head tells me that perhaps I should not. The best advice I can offer is to check ebay, I'm sure you can find a decent microwave there for less than $50us, the most you'd pay in a department store for a cheap unit. On the other hand, perhaps this is just some sob story in an attempt to circumvent the contest alltogether. Either way, I wish you the best of luck.

I got this microwave last Christmas for under $150 from SmartHome.com It's sitting in my storage locker unused because it doesn't work as intended/advertised.

1 - its a great microwave, the only reason its in storage is because my new apt has a stainless steel one built in already. Yeah this one has a Bar Code scanner, but the one in my kitchen doesn't use counter space.

2 - iCEBOX and Sani Network card needed to really get some connectivity out of this. With out it it will nuke stuff in a good amount of time and occassionally work on a generic box of popcorn. 9 of 10 items were not readable by the scanner. This sucked, because I had hoped to at least be able to connect and program myself. This product really dropped the ball by not allowing the user to program bar codes with cook time/temp. Oh and the iCEBOX interface was on sale for $1200 while the Sani card wasn't even available for purchase.

3 - Take this microwave and stash it next to your collection of retro cool artifacts who's novelty have worn thin and have outlived their "niftyness."

My review:
Style: 10 of 10 - don't lie, you know it looks good (only gripe is the bright blue backlight WILL NOT turn off -- except when unplugged.)

Cook Through: This is an important topic for Microwaves as they often leave the middle of my Hot Pocket cold. Even though this model will rotate your plate, it gets a 9 of 10. Until the upgraded firmware corrects the settings for every item I place in there Westinghouse loses a point for not perfecting the power of nuke. The future will have it pefected, so should the microwave of the future.

Timer: 7 of 10 - Sometimes it's important to microwave something for exactly 2:32. If that is the case, this is not the one for you. This unit only lets you work in incriments of 10 seconds. To get your underwear heated JUST RIGHT, you have to set it for 2:40 and let it run with nothing in it for :08 seconds. Come to think of it, I don't recall there being a kitchen timer function. You know the thing that couts down when nothing is in the microwave...the beep at the end confuses me too.

Scanner: 5 of 10 - Only 4 points for being innovated and creative. I'm all for anything that will simplify my life excessively, but this will not work on my Orvielle Redenbockers Movie Theater Butter Popcorn. Had to manually enter it and WATCH my popcorn pop. The time you save checking to see if items around the house work with the scanner, you could have read the directions and entered it yourself. The last point is for the cool factor whenever the guys come over. I love impressing them with my laziness. Actually I'm too lazy to go back and deduct yet another point from the scanner since the bar reading wand of wonder attached to the microwave is attached with a not so long black chord. As if I were to lose something THAT valueable.

Anyone care to trade for my microwave. The guy a few units above me is offering free hosting for 3 of my domain names for 1 year. Better offers may be sent via PM.

Cool contest, but with an error on one of the photos. Newton, IA is NOT the home of Amana. Newton is the home of Maytag, who now owns Amana Refrigeration. The actual home to Amana is Amana, IA. A quaint little area of 7 villages originally settled by the Pennsylvania Dutch. It is a great place to go in the Midwest when it's time for Oktoberfest. That's it for todays mini-history lesson.
