This is only because I live there. In the description above you mention Sioux City, SD. It's actually Sioux City, IA. NORTH Sioux City is in SD, SOUTH Sioux City is in NE, All are within 5 min of each other.

Yeah, I grew up in NW Iowa and noticed that, too. But what the hell, eh?

Cool contest, but with an error on one of the photos. Newton, IA is NOT the home of Amana. Newton is the home of Maytag, who now owns Amana Refrigeration. The actual home to Amana is Amana, IA. A quaint little area of 7 villages originally settled by the Pennsylvania Dutch. It is a great place to go in the Midwest when it's time for Oktoberfest. That's it for todays mini-history lesson.

Man, I'm getting schooled up and down today. Next time I go to Iowa, I'll be a lot better prepared!

Funny, it worked for me. After the first picture was figured out, I was looking around for a clue.

I knew that Amana was the first commercial microwave oven, so I googled their webpage. I found an address, and google mapped it. Went to sat view.

And, the rest is history! :D

If I hadn't been old enough to remember, that microwave ovens used to be called "Radarange," and were made by Amana, I wouldn't be getting a free microwave.

I guess being old, paid off, finally.

Don't worry about that. It's like the pot calling the kettle black. ;-)

This is fun. It's like a treasure hunt. I love treasure hunts. And, as an experienced (koff, koff) Blogger and confirmed microwave user, I think I could do a great job reviewing this particular product. So, do I get a chance, huh? Huh?

This product really dropped the ball by not allowing the user to program bar codes with cook time/temp.

What does "Learn function allows users to program their own barcodes" on the Beyond Microwave web page mean? It would seem you are allowed to store barcodes for products it does not have. I wonder if the updates are generated by the users themselves when the microwave is networked, saving the Beyond crew from having to get some lackey to nuke new products to add to the bar code database?

Truthfully I own this microwave (well, the Westinghouse branded model - it looks the same, has the bar code reader, may not have the Beyond networking part) but I am not at home to investigate right now. I bought it for $50 at Target (clearance - snatched it up because I knew I wasn't going to see another stainless steel microwave for that price) and it is still sitting in the box waiting for my new kitchen. So I have one but I have no experience with it yet to be able to contribute a useful review.

That's a job I wouldn't mind having. "here, take this bunch of microwaveable food and see how long it takes to cook". Big Smile

Quick, someone check my spelling and grammar for me.

I'm a consumer electronics blogger by night (CHAITGEAR @ www.chait.net), and this would definitely be a cool unit to try out. That's assuming there's someone who hasn't yet PICKED A SECOND WOOTER!

Did I say to pick me? ;)

My microwave is dying. I'd love to get one free; because there is no doubt that I would use it! We have 2 in our house, one is dead, the other is turning on and off on it's own. With a new baby on the way we don't have the money to get a new one now. Even if I can't review it, I'm a pretty good candidate for purchase later when it and if woot decides to sell them, as long as it's cheap enough for me to afford it.

Guys, I'm not one of the WooT personnel, but I have been following this thread.

For all of you that keep asking for a second chance microwave, they are ALL GONE!

They were spoken for, by 1:30, Monday afternoon!

THere is NO WAY that the winners can pick you. The winners have already picked someone.

That decision has been made.

A long time ago.

It can't be re-made.

It is DONE!

Before you post, asking for a microwave, re-read the thread.

And then, don't ask.

What a bummer that I slept through this contest! I may have actually guessed this one! My sister works at Amana, my wife worked there for one day years ago (non air-conditioned place that is AT LEAST 300 degrees in the summer -- well, at least that's the excuse my wife gives for only working there one day!), and I live in Cedar Rapids, just a rocks throw away from Amana. (or maybe I could chuck a computer-virus infected microwave that far!)

Oh well, I miss all the fun... :(

Congrats to the winners!

Hey Could I have a free microwave you guys! I mean for the last two weeks I have had the worst diarrhea about every 5 minutes so I cant leave the house so i have been eating microwave food. i have 14 kids ages 2 1/2 to 4 and our other four microwaves broke or are breaking yet i'm on Woot buying extra gadgets so feel pity on me. My seeing eye dog led me into traffic, I didn't get hit but he did, so maybe if this microwave is smart enough it could lead me around town too. I would be a great tester to see what it does to gerbils too as I like to warm them slightly before we play "Spelunker" on the weekends. My brother's wife's dad was struck by lightning while he was fixing our microwave so we need one REAL BAD. Please pick me! I realize I am only two days late but I just want to throw out just in case skskou decides not to give his relatives one and instead thinks I am more deserving. I even saw the Amana plant one time when I drove through Iowa. My mom was addicted to crack and so she turned our microwave into a giant pipe (it holds $500 worth at once, is self-lighting, and is supposed to be some party!) so we need a new microwave. Can I have a free microwave please please please??? Pretty please with sugar on top, except I'm diabetic and can't have sugar so I would be a good reviewer for cooking things without sugar in them? I don't need one for free but if you could loan me one I will pay you, I just got an email that I won the South African lottery and they will be sending me a check by air mail shortly! Then I can buy you 10 microwaves back!

Sheesh. You have a little contest and people come out of the woodwork with stories trying to get free stuff WELL AFTER the time to get in on the free stuff ended. And the stories aren't even entertaining ones...

I figured out the first picture mostly out of luck. I went to google, and looked up the history of the microwave. When I found out Perry Spencer first discovered that microwaves could cook food, I tried to find out where the site was that he discovered this. I couldn't find that, but I did manage to find out where he was born. I entered Howland, ME into google maps, and what do you know, that was the answer.
