A GREAT charity is Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
a group of doctors that goes all over the world (even in the worst war torn regions)
to provide much needed medical care to people.

They are also on the front lines of reporting government atrocities/genocides/etc.

Hubby was mad at the Red Cross when they misappropriated funds after 9/11 and Katrina.
He read the financial reports for the Salvation Army and was happy with them.

So folks, you know where the find that drum!

It's amazing how many guys that were in WWII would have nothing to do with the Red Cross. My card club was talking about it one evening (all of our dads were in the war) and most of them said their dads absolutely did not like the Red Cross. I've never heard anything bad about the Salvation Army.

besides them trying to convert people who are vulnerable and their stated homophobia, they are a great outfit.

I never did like the here is some food now pray with us tactic.

There are Christian charities that don't play that game, but the SA ain't one of them.

Yeah, the WWII guys were put off by the Red Cross, I heard it more than once.
My stepfather liked them, they helped him with something, but most guys were mad at them.

while not as big as those outfits, I tend to go for Doctors without Borders and organizations like that. They have very little overhead and no religious affiliation.

there are tons of organizations that do great work in the US. I personally like Habitat for humanity (you can donate to a local chapter) though they are religious they don't try to convert. I also like Southern Poverty Law Center. I haven't researched disaster relief in the US, though.

Introducing a charity that requires no money donations and that helps people get through the tough trials of life! Just go somewhere that people are and give. It does wonders!
