While I understand the intent, and by no means are you a downer, a couple things to maybe help...

Holocaust Tattoos were in Black or blue ink, the cheapest of tattoo ink. Secondly they faced away from the person, so as if you were reading, it would appear upside down. Thirdly, they were on the top of the arm, unlike this great woot which is on the bottom.

My intent on posting about this is not to argue with you, but rather to clear up syl2us great chop job, so that no negativity is upon it except for the work itself.
The idea is brilliant as walking down the street you always see people on cellphones, and you have to think that the cell phone might as well be another part of the body..

personally, i think you're being too sensitive. i don't get upset every time i see a painting of indians being slaughtered by cowboys. things have happened in the history of every people that need to be remembered but each "tribe" should continue with life and not force sensitivity on the other tribes.

I would suggest that "Installion for the Cell Phone" in the wootcast area is spelled wrong though. Perhaps a fix before the contest ends?

Perhaps it's a tribute to that classic bit by Steven Wright, where he buys a irregular phone (ie one that has no 5). His friends ask why he doesn't call anymore and says "I can't call everyone I know, my phone has no 5" and the friend asks "how long have you had that phone?" and Steven says "I don't know, my calendar has no 7."

Hi again,

Theunknownartist: Thank you for your post. Just to clarify, I do agree that the image was well executed and done without malice. As for the details formatting of the numbers, sure, they're not the same, but evocative none-the-less.

jgreene777: I respect your opinion. Everyone exhibits different levels of sensitivity, and all are valid.

Zilla79: <snarky>Wow. What a mature and eloquent way to make your point. You really know how to sway someone's opinion. I have suddenly changed my mind. Please let your neighbor know that I am deeply hurt that he or she does not give a doody about me. I certainly care for him or her, and value his or her opinions of me after carefully considering me as an individual. Also, rest assured that your response to my post reflects poorly upon me, rather than you. No one in the woot community will judge you because of this. And finally, thanks for the smiley face at the end of your comment. It clarifies your intent immensely.</snarky>

Come on now - it's a clever entry and there was obviously no intent to make light of the Holocaust. Everything is funny till it hits close to home. I found nothing whatsoever offensive about that post.

As a human being and the neighbor of other human beings, please kindly respect other human beings and don't be so rude and insensitive and just outright despicable in your future posts. Why don't you just post a nice little merchandise item for building toppling airplanes that are great for terrorist activities? That would be about as tasteful. I find it ironic that you have an objection to melodramatic opinions, but find that caustic and inflamatory opinions (whether given sarcastically or not) are appropriate for this forum.

So, when I saw this, I thought, "I thought the dynamite-looking thing was the Illudium, not the gun." I then spent about 20 minutes looking at tiny images from Google, none of which showed the part I remembered. Then I went to Wikipedia, where I discovered that the Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator is in fact the stick of dynamite thingy after all, and that people have mislabelled it Q-36 (that's what I thought it was) since it was first created, when it was called uranium instead of illudium.

Its a nice picture and all, but I doubt that woot would get it wrong like this, even in 500 years. If I noticed it, you can be SURE Jason will.

There's plenty of time to fix it...

Thanks Josephus. The mistake is fixed. (geez don't try to write b.o.o b.o.o if you don't want to weep with joy) Of course now I will have to blow you into 70,670,002 micro cells. LOL! Seriously, thanks for the heads-up.

Hahahahhahahah, I love you. :-) I actually did do a photoshop which was called Jenga, 9/11 edition, but I know that you really don't want me to post it. On that note, let me add a disclaimer: I do not hate America, and 9/11 itself is horrible.

Going back to my post, this is my point. My post is offensive, no doubt about it. It diminishes the impact of the holocaust. It is along the line of post a woot for a 1970 DIY abortion kit with a picture of a coat hanger. Get mad at me, report me, fine. All in all though, it is nothing more than dark humour.

My "shock image" is exactly that. Now, when you look at the phone pic, it doesn't seem so bad does it? If anything it is a testament to his/her imagnination when thinking about how technology might be in the future.

For those that think I am an evil "jew hater", I'm not. I just think free speech should be respected, although it wasn't in the case of the phone entry.

Caveat: I do agree with you that posting the "My first Auschwitz" tattoo was a teensy bit over the top... I linked it.
