extra lifetime filter = when one gets dirty you don't have to wash it before vacuuming (always have a spare clean one)

Just an idea.. ;)

I seriously considered the last dyson. My current vacuum is falling apart and lacks good attachments. I have looked/read/heard/whatever all of the criticisms... so is this thing REALLY overrated or what?

If it's a lifetime filter to begin with, why the hell do you need an extra one?

It needs cleaning occasionally, and with two you can swap and resume vacuuming immediately

I own a Dyson and when they refurbish them they are as good as new. This is a company with great customer service and warrants the vacuums for labor and parts and free shipping if necessary (there may be authorized repair shops in your area) for 5 YEARS.... no other vacuum comes with that kind of warranty.

We have had ours for almost that long and it is the best vacuum we have ever owned. We have had Kirby (yack!) Hoovers... Kenmores... none of them worth much. Great buy and truly well spent money.
I'd like to add that it truly NEVER looses suction. And no, I don't work for the company, just a happy customer.

Hope this helps.

I know that this comment will probably be removed, but to everyone who is thinking about posting about how much this 'sucks' and thinking how clever you are: don't. Just don't. You're not clever. At all, ever. Just go to bed.

I do know that both my mom and grandma talk about how good dyson vacuums are, although neither uses one now. Maybe they are not as good for the money or something.

A lifetime filter on a refurbished vacuum. Is this the previous owners "lifetime" filter?

Does it come in pink?
Is it compatible with Mac?
No USB port, gnite ;-)

I highly reccommend. I only wish mine had come with a spare lifetime filter, so i could use it in the after life..................

Finally! A vacuum sucking joke. Haha, I was worried we might make it to page two!

Here's a question for you. If Dyson is so good and their products are so solid... where do the refurbs com from? :S I'm not accusing, I agree they are good, I really do wonder haha.

I have a DC07, which I think is better than the DC14s, but either model is hands down better than any other vacuum on the market at any price. Remember, sometimes 'refurbished' means returned to a retail store for any reason, e.g., broken belt, didn't like the color, spouse freaked out about the price, bank account overdrawn... you get the idea.

I do have a question, though, one that I am sure will get asked more than once today: if the filter is really a "lifetime" filter, then why do you need 2?

crashspeeder

quality posts: 0 Private Messages crashspeeder

Definitely a good deal. the DC07 sells for 399.99 and it's very similar to this minus the attachments. There are only a few things I don't like about this vacuum. The size of the vacuum's base doesn't allow you to vacuum under most things. Most people don't like the way the wand works due to the fact that it works best when it's pulled out, detached, flipped around, and then used although you CAN use it without turning it around it's both longer and easier to use if you do turn it.

The major advantages are the fact that you can detach most parts of the vacuum if something gets stuck and the beater bar has a clutch (or at least most dysons do) which means if something gets caught on the bar it won't destroy the belt, it will stall the beater bar to avoid replacing expensive belts.

take it for what it's worth.

I am in the market for a vacuum... but why on earth would I ever need to spend $259.99 on a vacuum? Or even over like $50 - $60 for that matter?

Btw, I live in an apartment with polished concrete floors. Need a vacuum for my two large rugs and sofa.

The backup filter is for when you wash the one in the machine, it has to dry so the back up can be alternated with the drying one. I have 2 Dysons, one upstairs and one downstairs, they are awesome, backup filters and all!

It's loud like any other vacuum. Unlike any other vacuum, you can hear the large volume of air it's moving about.

The thing that I love most about mine is mostly that any and every joint and pipe where something can jammed/lodged in the system can be accessed easily. One day I noticed that the suction in the hose was really down, so I yoinked out the hose and the 90-degree section of pipe where it connects and oh look a pen was lodged in it. I think it took no more than 90 seconds to unclip, remove, and clip everything back together.

Also, it doesn't use any sort of drive belt to rotate the brushes, it's all done by air. So no more snapping/jamming/burning out the drive belt.

have this exact one, and 1- this thing rivals my 13 year old dog's insane shedding habits. after this thing rolls into town, all evidence of dirt and dog is wiped clean.
2- my only complaint is when my girlfriend's hair (yes, hers and not my dog's) catches (actually this is only my speculation) and there's a loud crunching noise as the hair whips violently in the spinning brush-al area of the vac.

That said, after having paid full price at Costco a few months ago...I love this vacuum.

i w00t because they told me to.

Hey lighten up. Some of us both can read and did read the description, and still found the concept of an extra lifetime filter amusing. Can't you just let us have some fun? Please?

Btw, the other post about using the extra filter in the afterlife was very funny. Thanks for the yuks!

Dysons don't lose suction and have 5 year warranties. They usually last much longer than 5 years though and there's nothing you have to buy for them. They don't need filters or bags.

How can these become refurbished? Do they not vacuum or suck strong enough?

Refurbished doesn't mean it doesn't work correctly.

Refurbished means that it at one time did not work correctly, and was returned to Dyson, or that it was simply a user error that it did not work, and Dyson took it back and found that it worked.

They cannot sell opened/used returns for new, legally, no matter if they work like new after a refurbishment or simple test and rebox. So they replace parts if they were actually broken, or they test the vacuum, if it works as new, they box it up and sell it as refurbished.

Isn't the 5 year warranty people are talking about moot since the listed guarantee is only 6 months? Or is the warranty separate from the return guarantee and still applies towards refurbished models?

I bought this model (just in a different color) from Costco a little over two years ago for over $400 (which was the best deal around at the time). This is definitely a sweet deal.

For those of you asking why you would need two lifetime filters, I was wondering the same thing. The documentation with the vacuum explains the purpose. When it becomes dirty, you just take it out and rinse it clean. However, it has to completely dry, which usually means leaving it out for days. The second lifetime filter is so you can just swap them out while the one is drying and not put your vacuum out of commission. It's actually quite useful.

As far as the vacuum itself goes, we have two Siberian Huskies, and we vacuum most of our 1,000 sqft almost every day. After fairly heavy use for over two years, it's still holding up strong. All we've had to do is untangle the beater bar and consistently clean the filter.

Conclusion: highly recommended. Heck, I'm tempted to pick up another one just because they're that good.

OK.. I'd buy it except the new ones have 5 year warranties, but this one only 6 months???? So, it sounds like they aren't confident in their refurb (rox0rz!) skills.

Not overrated at all. The only complaint my wife has ever made about our DC07 (purple one from Sears) is that sometimes she has trouble using the attachments with the hose because it is TOO POWERFUL and pulls back to the machine. I have a friend who has a newer DC14, and he says their's doesn't have this problem. Still, I can live with too much power.

We have the animal; its great. This has a 6 month warranty. Doesn't matter if its a refurb (rox0rz!); Dyson backs it. You don't see a lot of these as refurbs, like you do with some other products.

If you're in the market for a vacuum, this is a good price to give a Dyson a try. We paid just north of $430 or so for ours, new.

My wife got a Dyson while I was in Iraq and it sucks as well now as it did when she bought it. She loves it and says it the best vacuum ever. We have 5 kids, so it goes through a lot and hasnt needed a thing fixed. I only WISH I could get them this cheap.

Hmmmmmmm........... a refurb (rox0rz!) Dyson vacuum. Here's my 2 cents: I got the DC-7 from Woot when the were selling it about 2 months ago. Unfortunately, it was dead out of the box - wouldn't make a peep when the power button was pushed. Woot was excellent about taking this defective item back and I ended up getting my Dyson elsewhere. I must say, being a first-time Dyson owner, that this machine is second to none. And to all those nay-sayers who swear by their Wal-mart piece of crizznap, foo vacuum, they'd be amazed to see what a Dyson vacuum can get out of their so-called "clean" carpets!
