woot: "puffed up like a courting bullfrog, animated by some profane impulse born of the foulest unholiness, a repugnant mockery of life"

You know, that really ain't half bad!

However, I still have at least one set of "Mystery Speakers" gathering dust... Actually, I wonder if I should mention to my psychiatrist how many of those puppies I bought.

it seems like a good accessory for an iPod or other mp3 player--one on ebay just ended for ~$29 though with no bids:

I bought a 2-pack of these. I think they sound like crizznap, foo. I do not recommend you waste your money on this. There are better options out there.

This speaker is awesome.

Great sound.

Easily Portable.
l
Very Loud.

Batteries last a descent amount of time. But you could always the ac adapter.

I got the them when they had them during the 2for2 tuesday and and am very satisified.

Especially when i use with my ipod.

Better than lugging a pair of speakers around.

I got these as a two pack a while back. I kept both of them and use one as speakers for my laptop and I take the other one around to wherever i need music. They sound pretty good for portable speakers but the you can barely feel the subs. Overall, a cheap 3 piece speaker can easily overpower these but if you're looking for portable ones, these are highly recommended.

Got these before, and they are good (not great) speakers. The amplifier is a bit on the weak side. And your have to press down a bit on the hard side to get the woofer to rise, and that can stress your wrist (unless someone has a better way -- use your foot maybe?)

Decent reviews on Amazon, where their price (including shipping) would be $37.64.

Why do I not believe this? It looks like analog input only - no coax, no optical, etc.
Bad woot!

Also: hey Those Who Rule woot - name three significant changes in your site handled during the "downtime or perhaps it is the end of the world" bit.

Although I do not speak on behalf of the woot staff, I can identify at least one major update.

Instead of the buy now ID being a simple number, woot has changed the ID to be a long, segmented ID string. I personally believe that they added this functionality to have multiple sales running in different categories at the same time. Specifically, this would be important to the opening of shirt.woot.com .

What's digital 2.1 mean, anyway? I know Dolby Digital 5.1, and the newer 7.1, but what the hell is 2.1?

Lessee, two 3-watt tweeters and a 3 watt woofer, = 9 watts, from four aaa cells? Somehow I -don't- think so, especially not with 24 hours of operating time.

We've got 2 of these from a prior Woot and they are great speakers for the kids' rooms and for a corner of the kitchen. Easy to move around. We haven't had any problems with them -- plus they look pretty interesting!

Well, I used parts from an old C64 and a drier and got true digital 3.1 sound, but I sure wish I knew how to use a laptop and a washing machine to get 2.1 sound...

I have this, and I paid 80.00 for it the first time it was offered.

It's a STEAL at 24.99.

I threw a bad-ass roaming hotel party with this system and an MP3 player. I was a demi-god. We alerted security. I made an elevator party span 8 floors. We were heard 6 floors away (music+Drunken Braying Mantis Style).

Choice.

Go here to check it out: http://www.bose.com/

They don't really compare to the woot for today because they are usually between 250 and 300 bones! Really sounds great though...in my opinion.

Analog input is good, coax etc. is useless in a low end thingie like this, and proprietary connectors for single brands of mp3 player are the last thing you want. I have the virgin boom tube woot from a while back and all those damn wires all over the place are a huge nuisance so I'm tempted by this one-piece thing. I just wish they made it run on AA cells and that would have allowed making it a bit more powerful (I don't believe the 9 watt claim). It could be bigger as well, comparable to a small boom box, since it's already not pocketable or anything like that. I'm thinking of ordering this but the weirdest thing is I've gotten used to listening thru headphones, so now music coming from speakers is annoying to me.

I've bought a bunch of these for all the kids and my computer. They are really nice as portables to use with mp3 players. They absolutely don't sound as good as Bose but they sure sound decent and if one of my kids loses it or runs over it or trades it for crack, it's no big financial loss. Comes with AC adapter and a really nice carrying case. At this price, invest in some bulk rechargeable batteries and you'll be happy. Plus they look freakin' ribs!

I want to clear up some things:

1) This is 2.1 because it (from the description at least) contains 2 speakers AND a subwoofer. 7.1 means 7 speakers and a sub, 2.1 means two speakers and a sub.

2) This does NOT take a digital signal, it only has an analog "headphone" jack.

3) I doubt that it will return to you if you throw it.

4) It would be compatible with mp3 players, windows, mac, laptop, ipod, whatever, because it uses a standard 3.5 headphone jack.

I have the Virgin Mobile Boomtube EX. The sound quality is awesome. The rca wires can be a little messy and it doesn't run on replaceable batteries (rechargeables inside). I've taken this camping and did not have a power source to recharge it so without an outlet, this is a one time use when camping.
